Right in the heart of the 1980s when Aretha caught a new headwind and let us all know she wasn't going anywhere but up to the top. Miss her so much. Rest well, Queen.

Yep. Folk had counted her out but she doubled down on her demands bcuz she knew her worth and value. During this time Aretha Franklin, one who always lamented flying, decided that anybody who wanted to do anything with her needed to come to her to have it done. This and a lot of subsequent works were published and produced almost solely in The Motor City, Detroit, MI. Including the international number she did with George Michael, Knew You'd Be Waiting. Even the video was filmed transcontinental.

@@dpkvwells Me Too! I heard it but I wasn't listening to it until maybe 4 months after it was out. A much older man and his wife said to me at the time (I was in my very early twenties) I have to listen to the song Jimmy Lee by Aretha Franklin I said I heard it they said no really listen to the lyrics and and once I did I was like OMG! So I only slept on it for about 4 months! It's a beautiful jamming song but it's also a sad song and a hurtful song because whether you are male or female just about everybody have a Jimmy Lee in their time while in their youth!🤷‍♂️

As a teenager in the 80s, a few things brought the great Aretha Franklin to my attention (sadly, it was not the UK radio stations playing her anthology); namely, the 'Blues Brothers' film (Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, et. al.), 'I knew you were waiting' (collaboration with George Michael), and this gem, 'Jimmy Lee'. Again, not played much on the airwaves UK-side, so thank you for this download, and thank you KZbin 🎼👏🏾🌟❤
