Another Aretha gem. Produced by Lauryn Hill, 1998. This song and video featuring Lauryn Hill, Elise Neal, Faith Evans, Changing Faces, Q-Tip and Amel Larrieux really captures the essence and respect that younger artists Have for Aretha. And the message behind the song Remember who you are, pick up your crown and keep pushing is really universal, whether you're a male or female.

People get lost in life, in the world... the only problem with this is,can they (we) be found? The answer is of course yes! And even more, the answer is that we can only become found through each other, thru reflection-- the hidden part of ourselves to be awakened, which can be so painful to do, and that is the reason it can feel so difficult, like going through pure anguish! Yet, that is the course!

Always admired this song as a teenager and now as a 31 year old woman, Ladies we hold the power, know your worth!!!
@evan33526 жыл бұрын
Until you turn 35.. Then the tables turn. Women like older men (can't say the same for men) so while the world is unfair to young men, the tide turns for us men when you ladies age. Ladies, while you are young, learn, be complaint, and find that man! Time waits for nobody.
@toomuchinformation6 жыл бұрын
Be compliant? That's what caused the abuse in the first place!
@toomuchinformation6 жыл бұрын
Outis You're looking at power in a very linear, limited, left brained way. It doesn't mean sexual power, but the ability to be and feel good in your skin regardless, to have strong, yet flexible boundaries. If you're like then you're less likely to put up with being in an abusive relationship to begin with. It doesn't mean doing it in a shouty "I'm worth it!" way, but having a strong sense of self and internal strength.
@squarebear6196 жыл бұрын
@@evan3352 Ladies, do not listen to this incorrect spelling imbecile. Your worth is not found through any man. Don't waste your youth chasing after some good for nothing little boy who is looking for "compliance" instead of a true partner. Remember that YOU are the prize to be won and not him. You can also find a great man in your 30's, 40's, and beyond or you can be single. It takes nothing from your beauty, both inward and outward. As Aretha said in this song, "without him your life goes on!"

Just stopped by after watching the home-going service again. I was 16 when this song came out. This song used to make me cry. The words touched me so deeply. I had no one in my life telling this message, but God used Aretha Franklin to say it to me in a song. I was just like this girl in the video then. Praise God for growth and wisdom. This is probably her most underrated song to date. RIP Queen!

When I was younger, my mom would blast this song and dance around the house with me and my sister as little girls. I always thought it was about a woman who turned into a flower. Now, as young woman, I understand the song's true meaning, and I'm so grateful to my mom for instilling the idea, that our worth is NOT attached to a man, into us at an early age ❤
