Almost every aspect of our industry relies on trust. The families of the deceased entrust us with the care of their loved one, they trust that we will behave in a respectful manner and our bosses have to trust that we will always treat people with dignity and integrity. It horrifies me that people would betray that. It’s a great honour to serve the deceased and assist them in their final journey. If you’re not in it for the love, you shouldn’t be in it at all.

We had an Funeral Director working for our local Funeral Home here in Northern Ireland who sent the WRONG body for cremation: Correct coffin and name plate, but the incorrect body inside the coffin with no viewing. Sadly, the family involved only realised when the OTHER coffin (for viewing) saw that it wasn't their loved one in the box. By then, the first coffin and incorrect body had been cremated. Subsequently, the FD was dismissed, but has now opened their own Funeral business in the same town! Very, very sad for the families of the deceased 😔😔😔

Oh my goodness Gaggy 😞 no turning back when the other person has been cremated 💔 this is why a name tag is always always always left on the deceased person from been picked up from a nursing homes, resident, hospitals & coroners and never taken off even before cremation or burial. The process we go through is that we have several different staff members check after I have prepared the body that the name tags match the coffin or casket and matched the prepared services with all the correct paperwork. What a sad story 😔 thank you for sharing 💚💚

I used to think that the idea of donating your body to science was pretty neat until a story broke out in the US some years back that completely changed my mind. I don't remember all of the details and seem to have forgotten a lot of the facts, but a woman had chosen to donate her body to science and it was to eventually be cremated at some point and the cremains given back to her son. I can't remember how the son found out, but they'd apparently strapped explosives to the body and activated them in order to get a "better understanding" of the effects such devices have on the human body, which was far from what the woman had been led to believe her body would be used for, and it understandably caused the son severe emotional distress. It was quite a big deal in the news for awhile and caused a lot of people who had wanted to donate their bodies to science to change their minds.

Great subject, which hits hard to me. Many years ago i was around 13 or 14, (almost 60 now} the chap i was going out with, his dad worked in the funeral industry, he was actually employed as a grave digger but would help with other things when needed. A lot of the time he would come back from work with carrier bags with clothing, shoes and jewellery etc, It was a while later i found out where these things had come from. I even heard him tell the wife that hed cut off fingers from folks to get rings off, This was done before the cremation but straight after the service, ((so no more viewings where going to happen)) as he said they didnt do the cremations until it was dark.... I didnt realise the severity and awfulness until years later, I still feel bad even now that i did not have the guts or hindsight to tell some one

I read about the funeral home here in the U.S. that were selling body parts, it was horrible. Over the years, I've hear that and worse things happening here. There have been several funeral homes that closed down and then later others found bodies still in the funeral homes months and months later, they've even found babies hidden up in the dropped ceilings. They told the people were cremated but never were and these families had erns with ashes in them that were not theirs, many families had buried the remains thinking they were their loved ones. This even happen in the capitol city of my state at a funeral home. They just closed shop with loved ones still in side. There was one funeral home that wouldn't allow bodies to be release because their bills were not paid for their loved ones, then the funeral home closed and it took multiple complaints to be filed before the funeral home was investigated. They also found many urns full of ashes with names on them just sitting in a room. Sad how a few bad funeral homes make all funeral homes look bad. I'm glad I don't judge everything because of a few.

@@Areyoudyingtoknow I do think most people think there are more good funeral homes than bad, I know I do. I am fortunate that I live in a small town which has two funeral homes, both have been here since I was young. We know the people who run them and that makes a big difference. It's just sad that people take such advantage of families when they are going through some of the worst times in their lives. There recently here in Wales, UK was a problem when a funeral director mixed up 2 bodies, one was buried and the other was to be cremated. When the loved ones wanted to see their family member one last night before cremation realised that the body in the coffin was a stranger. The funeral home had buried their loved one in error. As a result they had to get an exhumation order from the courts to dig up the body. Now if it had been the other way then after cremation there is no going back.

One really bad case was a man who had been arrested for murder but had been working in a mortuary up until they caught him. How Horrific! According to a news source here in the U.S. 560 bodies were dissected over 8 years by this funeral home.😲 Families received their loved ones cremains mixed with others cremains & concrete. It was possible because the funeral home started a "foundation". In the U.S. it is possible for pieces of the bodies to be used as replacement parts for others that need a limb or other part, sometimes due to cancer or other health issues, or sometimes for research. Some of these bodies that were dissected had diseases too. 😞

I think the last point that you can change funeral homes is really important. My grandad died at home, it wasn’t expected but he also had long standing heart issues so we got a death certificate without an autopsy. A family friend works in the funeral industry, so his company picked up my grandads body. A day or two later we decided to go with essentially a direct cremation service, which was much cheaper than the funeral home he was at, overseeing the cremation. His body was collected from the funeral home he had been kept at & taken by the new service to the crematorium. The place they stayed may say there’s a fee, we challenged that & they dropped it. But it would still cheaper than if he had stayed. So, any reason, you can leave (Australian for context).

Question: In Australia, how would your loved one end up in a home you didn't choose? Say for example if your Gran was sick and then you got a call from Tobin or LePine or someone, how did that specific home acquire her? Secondly if (for example) Le Pine have my gran, and I want to use someone else, will I still have to pay LePine for them storing her for the time she was with them until the home I want comes to take her? So in effect paying 2 different homes with the first being one I didn't choose? Thanks.

Hi Tim, this has happens (usually nursing homes) because the nursing home staff have contacted the funeral company they probably use the most, sometimes but not usually without family permission. Now I can not speak for other funerals homes in Australia but our company will wear that cost and not charge the family. But it could be that you may have to pay twice but I suggest a call to the funeral provider you would prefer to use and ask that question, it could be we all do that and waiver the cost 🤞 Take good care and if you are saying this is your gran? We send you our deepest condolences to you and your family 🌹💚💚

Unfortunately in every business there are unscrupulous people willing to break the law to make more money. There was a case in America where the funeral home FD actually cut the legs of a blind jazzman turned preacher. He was black, albino and 6'7" tall. No lie. At the funeral service everyone whispered that it didn't look right. There was too much man for the casket and it got around that the funeral home must've cut the legs off to make him fit. His wife confronted the funeral director and they came to a settlement. However, when it finally got around to the police, they investigated and exhumed the body and, sure enough, he cut the legs off. The FD lost his license and a short time later, he died. The strange thing is that the funeral home is now open again, but the weird thing is that the name of the place is the same as before, with the exception of the first two initials. Cheers

Hi Cyndy, we said in the video, she was selling them to the universities that do anatomy studies. So not only was she selling body parts she was defrauding the Universities with forged donors consent paper work, it's such a terrible story 😔 Take care 💚💚

I actually remember seeing this is the news. I remember the woman and thinking that she had 1980's hair. Probably the worst ever here in the U.S. was Tri-State Crematory in Noble, Georgia. They eventually found over 350 decomposing bodies that were supposed to have been cremated. I think they gave people back concrete powder and passed it off as cremains.

I want to ask a question please? Why do you mark up the beautiful skin that the Lord God Almighty gave you. I don't mean this in a nasty way.

Hi Norma, are you talking about our make up or the makeup I sometimes use on the deceased person? Thank you for your question and certainly not taken in a bad way. 💚
