2:13 flat top stove is key!!! I’ve got a barrel type stove and it’s aweful for trying to heat water on. I like that it’s more compact that the argali stove. But it definitely has some serious negatives!!!

I've been using the finger from an EMS glove and electrical tape to cover the muzzle brake for several years. Works great!

Is there any particular reason why you take the Omen jacket and Brooks down sweater instead of the Uncompahgre Foundry jacket? Seems like the Unc Foundry potentially serves the same purpose that those two serve when combined? Thanks for the video, very informative and helpful!

Great question. I have the Unc foundry and it would be a good replacement option. For backpack hunts I do like being able to layer as I want so combo jackets just limit my layering a bit too much. I also find I have better packing options for individual jackets...meaning it is easier to pack a jacket outside my pack if need be or under my lid

That makes a lot of sense. I had been set on the Unc foundry but I think you've convinced me to prioritize individual jackets as I'm building out my layering system. Thanks!@@Argali

What’s the make & model on your green food sack that can double as an air pump for your mattress? Thanks!

Why skip the weaight of the pack?
@Argali

Meant to do that but forgot to. this setup with rifle and 1 liter of water (everything you would actually be carrying) weighs about 57 lbs.

Considered swapping the thermarest Xtherm NXT? Higher r value and lighter. No actual insulation to get nasty from moisture in the bag.

I own and have used the Xtherm. Don't care for it myself. Noisy as hell and not as comfortable IMO. I prefer the baffle system on the Exped pads and I like the valves waaaaayyy better as they are less prone to failure. Plus, the air inflate sack with the expeds is easy to use and I don't have to blow air from my lungs into the pad. Anyway, just my preference based on my experience but I know people like the xtherm.

@Argali Xtherm I have isn't really noisy at all? I havent had a failure at all in The Xlite was however. The new NXT is supposed to be 80% quieter and I'd a half inch thicker. The Xtherm I have is 8 years old and has never had a failure even with the old valve and being used floorless 95% of the time in NZ most weekends. I had an exped Winterlite or whatever the model was about a decade ago and the down shifted and clumped and I would get cold patches really bad. It eventually had so many slow leaks after 2 years I brought the Xtherm. Maybe our humid air ruined the down as I have only used a pump sack on either pad.

Oh that's interesting. Maybe they resolved the noise issue. And didn't catch that you were referencing a new model which we haven't used so could be worth trying out. And I use the Synmat Winter pad, which has synthetic insulation and I've been running it for 5 years. I did poke a small hole in it one year, but it was 100% my fault for bivvying in a patch of sharp rocks. But honestly it's one of those things where there are a lot of good products out there and it sounds like you've got a good pad setup so no need to change it up!

Nice Brad. Have a look at the Hydrapak Seeker Water Storage range. Much more robust that then Platypus, and their Filter (for warmer seasons) is mint.
