Khárn and Erebus’ duel was so fucking good. Especially how even the other World Eaters were shocked at how much he changed after Argel Tal’s death. It’s genuinely sad because it was Argel Tal who would keep Khárn as focused as possible and as human as a traitor World Eater can be. Erebus genuinely ruins everything.

Argel Tal also knew Sevatar and they mutually respected each other. Before the Dropsite Massacre Argel's speech inspired Sevatar to shout "Death to the False Emperor" which became the traitor's motto. However during the Dropsite Massacre, Sevatar saw Argel Tal's demon form and was disgusted. When the battle ended Argel wanted to pay respect to Sevatar by shaking hands and Sevatar spat at him.

Tsar Quorel died next, decapitated with a buzzing sweep of the energised blade, dead before he’d pulled his trigger. Deumos managed to fire a stream of bolt shells, none of which connected. Vendatha weaved left, thudded the base of his spear into the Chapter Master’s bolter, knocking it aside, and followed with a cutting swing that sheared both the Word Bearer’s hands from his body, severing them at the forearms. Deumos had a scarce moment to draw in a stunned gasp before the spear sliced again, this time cleaving through his collarbone and spine, ripping his head free. Vendatha span the blade in his hands, letting it come to rest with the tip and gun barrel aimed at Lorgar’s heart again. Behind the Custodian, the bodies crashed to the ground in slow succession. Three seconds had passed.

I find it interesting that Erebus and Kor both note that they had to keep Lorgar away from Argel Tal because Lorgar already had doubts about spreading the truth about chaos and with Argel by his side he almost certainly wouldn't have done it. It's also funny that of the three Argel was the only one Lorgar actually liked and Lorgar had sent Erebus and Kor to Calth to die. Hell even in 40k some word bearers hate Erebus for striking "down the legion's brightest star"

The most interesting revelation from Argel’s story is that the reason it is called The Imperial Truth is that it is not reality, it is the reality The Emperor seeks to create, although he claims it is reality. The Wordbearers, per their name, see themselves as bearing the weight of the Actual reality of the cosmos for better or worse, and therefore see the emperor, not as a visionary, but as a liar, ignoring the fact that this reality can be changed.

I think the chaos marines are more human than loyalists, and not from an edgy teen standpoint. They really see the truth, the loyalists for the most part are still completely blind. Think about 50% of traitor legion having to be purged and the perspective they would have, but knowing loyalists would just mow them down...

Also a lot of the lies and schemes made by the Emperor were in the end intended to work for humanity's favor unlike Tzeentch who just do it to further chaos's goals which is definitely not ideal for any human.

As much as I'd love to see Argal come back, I think a really good character arc for Kharn right now would be him deciding to take revenge on Erebus after all this time, gathering allies that also despise Erebus to kill the Word Bearer. Hell make it a massive plot twist as Kharn slowly regains more and more of his sanity until the climatic fight where upon killing Erebus, he becomes something like a mix of his old and khornite personalities, seeking to fight the best out there but doing so in a more honourable and strategic way then just kill main burn. Be pretty interesting and make Kharn a much more compelling character again. Hell it's not even that much of a stretch to think Khorne may put his avatar on this path, perhaps sick of Erebus shit and lack of honour as well as seeing it as a step towards making Kharn the ultimate warrior.

@@adrienwatson2179 Kharn is one of those Chaos Aligned characters that still has a lot of potential for the story and universe but is being shafted to suit a niche. Say Lucius, dude doesn't much room to grow or change as he was always an arrogant man that believed no one could best him, or Erebus who has had his heyday as the one responsible for the Horus Heresy and many parts within it, but since then has been more or less relegated to background character since he simply can't do what he used to with the same effect. Kharn is unique since he had a very distinct personality for a World Eater, and what with how his personal damnation happened, while his fighting prowess has certainly heightened, he is far from what you could consider the perfect warrior, which is the exact kind of thing Khorne would love to see. After all, sure, he was an amazing fighter, but there is bunch of other pre-heresy aspects to him that really set him apart from the regular World Eater that, in my mind, is why Khorne decided to choose him of all astartes. And what better way to improve his champion's capabilities now his devotion is assured then to have him claim his vengeance for the murder of his best friend which inevitably would require Kharn to make use of his more intrinsic personality traits?

@@adrienwatson2179 Personally, I don't entirely mind the direction they took with Kharn, but rather the fact they have done nothing with it. Sure, being a mindless berserker is interesting for a little, but it's more the fact he has gone no where with it other than to be one of the best killers in 40K. In my eyes however, it does paint an excellent landscape for his later potential for thousands of years of killing all being to ensure his otherworldly skills in combat as well as his devotion to Khorne. That's why I hope something along these lines happens to make Kharn a player in 40k again. Between Magnus and the Thousand Sons getting up to shit again, the Plague Wars with the Death Guard and Fabius Bile continuing to do his thing, I feel like Khorne and the forces of Undivided (*cough cough* Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors *cough cough*) need a real spot light, and for Khorne? What better way then the Betrayer getting his vengeance for the betrayal of Argal and becoming a leading Khornite leader like he should be?

There's a short story in the Mark of Calth book that follows another member of the Gal Vorbak who goes rogue after 7 years of fighting underground. It's really interesting and worth checking out if you like Argel Tal. The First Heretic and that story convinced me that a spinoff game of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine where you play as a rogue Gal Vorbak who can temporarily go demon mode in combat and travel around through the warp trying to unravel its mysteries while occasionally dropping onto random planets in real space and slaughtering loyalists would be sick as fuck

The lore is amazing... and ironic. Word Bearers turned traitor, for worshipping the Emperor, yes. But they also foiled themselves in the attempt. Cyrene was Argel Tal's "confessor." But after Cyrene Valantion died and was resurrected by Argel Tal, she became a perpetual and a loyalist. If you read the book where Lorgar tries to kill Horus, Lorgar is led by a blind, masked woman. It's pretty clear this is none other than Cyrene, luring Lorgar into a fight he can't win, and taking the Word Bearers out of the very rebellion they started. Brilliant!
