An interesting thing to note is that DoW: Dark Crusade heavily hints that the Blood Ravens come from word bearer gene stock. If this theory has weight it adds a counter option to the magpies being thousand sons loyalists. The most likely way this works is that high lords or the generights in the mechanicus used banked word bearer gene stock deliberately or accidentally in their founding. The main reasons some may latch to this theory is the level to which the imperial cult is present in the BR despite many astartes chapters holding to the imperial truth, in addition the WB had a high amount of psykers but without the flesh change of the TS or the hold tzeench has on the remainder of TS seed. Their subsector is also a derivation of Lorgars name being subsector Aurelia or subsector of the Golden One. The modified TS seed is still the fan favorite theory but the WB seed does have some merit as well.

@@NP3GA What about them? Literally everything anyone has an issue with them I have found it is due to the memes and them not actually knowing anything about them. They actually honor guardsmen for one. In two different books Wolves punched planetary governors and generals in the face for saying a single bad thing about the Cadians for the loss of Cadia. They protect the civilians as well (and honestly do a better job of it than Salamanders surprisingly). They are one of the few gene seeds able to laugh at everything a Grey Knight is capable of. This is due to them being resistant and resilient toward psyker powers. They are also brought up to fight astartes threats...meaning while every other chapter is focused on a xenos or daemons or the like...Wolves actually are trained to deal with other astartes first and everything else second. This being what the Inquisition, Grey Knights, and Red Hunters learned the hard way. The Grey Knights found that they had to out number the Wolves 3 to 1 to have an even chance against them, and the Red Hunters nearly became extinct due to the Months of Shame. The Inquisition is banned from the home systems of the Wolves and their successor chapters. They are also one of the few that take in aspirants at an older age. The Wolves take those who are past puberty but under 20. They also do not mutilate their Space Marines like most other chapters do. The testes get moved up into the body and the rest tend to just get cut off for most other legions. The Wolves and White Scars however do not do that, as both legions continue to have sex after becoming a full on astartes. Most every other legion become ken dolls. If you just don't like Viking looks, well... sorry your taste is bad mate.

There's an argument to be made that the Blood Ravens are actually a Word Bearers successor chapter. Unlike the Thousand Sons, the Word bearers geneseed is very stable and still produces a very high amount of pyskers, there's also Eliphas hinting they are brothers in Dark Crusade (though Chaos isn't exactly a dependable source). They are also quite religious for a space marine chapter, often referring to the Emperor as a God. Some of their sayings were actually found to have originated in Colchis, which is the most damning piece of evidence IMO.

One of my favorite space homemade space marines is an iron warrior dreadnaught forcibly recruited after the heresy who managed to withstand the brain washing eventually turning loyalist and being placed in a dreadnaught due to a heroic sacrifice. He would then proceed to modify the living hell out of his dreadnaught frame to a near unrecognizable degree turning it into an absolute death machine even purging the machine spirit through some warp fuckery. He would eventually be recruited as a ultra marine contractor of sorts spending most of his time as a librarian, tech marine, and occasionally being sent into combat to open up a can of woop ass when the going is tough.

Loyalist members of the traitor legions are both awesome and tragic, they stay true to their legions ideals but are tragic because it’s kind of a glimpse at what could have been had that Primarch and legion not fallen. I eprsonally always liked the Lionel heresy because Lorgar stays loyal because he sees the chaos gods for what they are: parasites. It’s just so satisfying to see alternate histories of fictional universes where people made smart choices in satisfying ways. (Erebus burning alive on Lorgar’s standard for eternity helps in that regard too)

I think an interesting video series might be a thought experiment on if the Primarchs landed on different home worlds. What if Lorgar landed on Macragge, Guilliman on Fenris, Russ on Nocturne, Mortarian on Inuit and so on. This would interesting to see how the Nature vs Nurture thing would play out with Primarchs and how things would've played out differently for the whole setting. Obviously all combinations can't be done in one video, so it can be broken up by planet or by Primarch. (Feel free to correct me if similar videos have been done)

I know it is almost impossible, but I would really appreciate to read more World Bearers having a crisis of faith (like that T'au general) and having to understand where they are and how they became what they are now. When Erebus is one of your chapter's 'master' duelists then the title as one of the Most Dangerous Word Bearers falls flatter than a drunk bear in the woods.
@AlbertTurek8 ай бұрын
Why's that? The dude pretty much singlehandedly started the whole Heresy in all fairness, unless I misunderstood your comment, and you do actually realise how dangerous Erebus is.
@Phamtomdark8 ай бұрын
Being dangerous because you have a sharp silver tongue and people listen to you, and being dangerous because you're good at fighting are two different things@@AlbertTurek Erebus started the heresy through trickery, lies and stabbing people in the literal back. Not only that but he's literally called out as a coward by his brothers more than once; likewise in the lore it is said Erebus is one of the Word Bearer legion's master duelists. So if a guy who is called out as a coward by other super soldiers, teleports to run away from honor duels, and more than once, sneaks up and stabs people in the back is one of your chapter's "master" duelists, then you have a very, very low bar.
@AlbertTurek8 ай бұрын
@@Phamtomdark I get where you're coming from if we're measuring the quality of character/integrity. In a strictly 'duelist' sense he may well not be the best swordsman or something along the rigid concept of weapon fighting and duelling, or if you adhere to anything made up like concepts of honour duels and honourable fights. All those are arbitrary though when fighting to kill/win/survive in any setting really. Let me throw you another example. It's kind of like the bit where Loken and Lucius spar together. Loken wasn't exactly playing 'by the rules' in order to best Lucius in a duel. You could say it was almost dishonourable win, and he didn't really best him in a sword duel at all, and certainly doesn't make Loken the best duelist, which is what Lucius claims to be, but in my book it certainly makes Loken more dangerous than Lucius in that setting. Intelligence/adaptability/strategising can be seen as cowardice by the strict and made up rules of duel and honourable fight at times. But 'real' fights are rarely ever that, and being cunning in war or fight is what gets you a win, and makes you more dangerous than someone who is playing by the rules. Erebus has no rules, no morals, which makes him extremely dangerous, and he deserves the very title of the most dangerous word bearer for sure in this case scenario, if not one of the most dangerous characters in the lore. Whether he deserves the title of the master duelist is no matter, if you think otherwise you'd probably be the one getting stabbed in the back anyway :D.
@Phamtomdark8 ай бұрын
So I agree with what you're saying, but only in so much that I'm not saying Erebus isn't dangerous, I'm saying that his combative skills are lack luster, and anyone using him as an example should maybe look elsewhere like maybe Loken for example. @@AlbertTurek Bringing up Lucius and Loken is a good example; both of them were fighting; Loken demonstrated that there are other aspects of a fight that one should be aware of, like fighting without honor. Which is ironic given what happened to him. A sucker strike is defined on how it's made on someone who is unaware, who isn't a combatant, and thus isn't a fighting technique in any sense of the word. Violent yes, harmful yes, but so is assassination which is also arguably non-combative in the ideal. Rhetorical question to make my point; If Erebus were to actually fight Loken, dual or otherwise, who do you think would win? Maybe Erebus because of magic, I'll give him that, but then again Erebus is smart maybe not, that's why it worked out the way it did. He doesn't act like he trusts in his own combat skills against other duelists, not after Kharn at least.
@AlbertTurek8 ай бұрын
@@Phamtomdark I don't find it rhetorical, it's a good one and I don't have a straight answer for it, especially as they cannot be crammed into a similar timeframe so easily I think. In the fight between Loken and Kharn, Kharn is possessed by 'the path', and also seems to hesitate few times as Loken tries to speak to his senses. So Kharn is not only distracted for a moment but then in a bipolar fashion, fights blindly, and Loken once again uses strategy and fists as opposed to weapons to basically throw Kharn under a big spiky bus in his blind rage. In the fight of Erebus and Kharn, it is emphasised that no one has seen Kharn fight like this before, so composed, collected, with so much clarity and speed, not even in the battlefield. So it's a tough one to go off of. I feel like this was given as a bit of a reward to a reader, because Erebus is such a d*ck after all, so it would just be too disheartening to not give a reader that win against Erebus, a single embarrassment that just gives you a bit of a breathing space amongst all the bad stuff that happens. I was fully expecting Erebus to utilise his 'sorcery' and 'cheat', and enhance himself to not let that happen, and continue being the ultimate focus of everyone's dislike. Psyker abilities are clearly OP in most scenarios like this. Ever since I've started reading the books I've kept seeing Erebus as an equivalent of Vilgefortz (if you haven't read Witcher, I very much recommend it, and probably stop reading at this point as I will include SPOILERS), a mage who was essentially impossible to beat in a duel due to his magical abilities and enhancements through study and application of magic. Only a higher vampire matched his speed and fighting ability, but in the attempt even he ended up as a pile of ash (R.I.P. Regis). The only thing that ended up tripping the mage up in the end was his own medicine, a magical item that allowed the witcher to create false apparitions which was just enough of a tiny distraction to get him messed up.

My head cannon ( and I don’t care if the other neckbeards crack a tantrum over this) but there were a bunch of loyal word bearers and they became the black Templars.

It's poetic , almost like the path of man where we are corrupted with joy and then later regret our choices and choose the right thing. It takes strength to do such a thing and I hope you brothers are on your right paths

I’m thinking Erebus probably has a notch on his belt for the one guy… cause you know if you can’t figure something out for a good death just have Erebus do it and everyone won’t question the death even if it’s stupid because fuck Erebus
