So was all this to replace a homemade shim with a proper one? Something makes me think the hard part would be getting the clutch off of the engine or tranny. Do you have to use a puller tool to get it off??.do you have a video of how to get it off??

The clutches are both keyed to the shafts, to take them off just remove the center bolt and slide the clutches off. Remember to apply Anti-seize when you put them back on.

@@RockDoctor07 cool! Turns out I was just seeing brake dust. Clutch seems aok. Sometimes things on a sheft are press fitted and hard to get off if not in a shop. Good to know these slide off easily..I possibly could do with a shim if they do what I think they do..

@@jamiehalifax4954 a shim in the Primary clutch will slow your rate of up shift, keeping you in a lower “gear” at higher rpms longer. You will also lose a little top end. Tightening the spring in your Secondary clutch will also slow your up shift a bit, but will increase your rate of back shift as well, pulling you back to a lower “gear” quicker. Again, you will lose a bit off the top end. I put a 5/32 shim in my primary and tighten the secondary one hole.

You wouldn't happen to know how much offset is required would you? I'm blind or it's not listed in the Argo manual...

Guitarhack42 has a video on clutch alignment I believe. I haven’t watched it for a long time.

What is the ideal behind the shim, does it make a difference to the speed/power.

Bradley Coles it increases the engagement RPM, and slows the up shift a little bit.

RockDoctor07 so if my Argo spins the clutches at idle this may help? I have a 16hp Vanguard and it’s idled pretty low. It used to be fine now I have it idled so low it dies if I don’t manage the throttle. I can idle it up and it spins the clutches. I’m going through a lot of start cycles to shift while it’s off then restart.

Any tips on removing a sized on primary or secondary?
@RockDoctor074 жыл бұрын
I believe "Kroil" (Aerokroil) penetrating lubricant is the best. I actually just had to use it to get the Primary off one of my Conquests. Mine was pretty bad, and had to be sprayed several times. It took almost 2 weeks to break free. You can also try pulling the Clutch Bolt and drive it around your yard a bit to help the Kroil penetrate.

What's your lube of choice for that?

Dry Graphite spray

@@RockDoctor07 Thank you! Just picked some up. Any pro tip on how to get the clutch off the engine? Rubber mallet and pry bar no luck. Swing harder? Being very cautious not to damage the clutch
@RockDoctor072 жыл бұрын
@@EricFB PB Blaster or Kroil are both good penetrating oils. Let it sit for a day after spraying clutch/shaft from both sides. Prybar with a fair bit of force. Always, always put Anti-seize on shafts before putting clutches back on. Pull clutches at least once a year for inspection/lubrication

@@RockDoctor07 Thanks you. I finally got it off, 3 hrs with the engine on the bench! I always use antiseize. The pto on this thing was totally dry. Good call on annual cleanup and lube. Cheers!
