The Raft does everything I wished the MPUV can do and it does a lot more than that. It's a freighter at a pinch but I think most players will use this to transport between hub and Hull C/D/Es. Afterall, this ship can carry 32SCU boxes. And the aesthetics of the Raft is just right. Definitely a design team that flexed their creativity.

I want to love this ship; its beautiful in an industrial way, but until the manual Cargo loading system is introduced its hard to justify over the cheaper base Freelancer's versatility or the fact the Freelancer Max completely outclasses it in every metric (prior to 3.23 anyways) for little additional cost. Here hoping for a bright future next patch!

The RAFT was my first "big" ship, the only thing I owned previously was a Titan and an Arrow. I picked up a Zeus MR during IAE last year and knew I wanted something capable of hauling cargo; without fully dedicating to it with something like a Caterpillar and I already knew before hand I didn't care for the Freelancer. I decided to check out the RAFT on ARGO day and fell in love with the interior and the rugged looks of the ship. ARGO just has the most comfortable feeling interiors in my opinion, they actually feel like somewhere you would want to live on a long haul. I'm really hoping they announce a medium size salvager or a larger cargo ship this year for IAE.

The SRV might become more essential once the game gets closer to release as simply Claiming an otherwise nearly destroyed ship might be more expensive than repairing it despite having LTI insurance.

Definitely agree that whomever is designing Argo ships deserves a raise! I love the look of the Raft, but it will be an in-game purchase for me as I already have the Zeus CL pledged for.

I want it to be able to press a button from the pilot seat and have it extend all the cargo containers to the ground and release them, this can open up some nice gameplay for quickly dropping containers

A fantastic ship from one of the golden eras of the CIG ship team before the talent exodus. I recall the 400i and Redeemer both being released close together and then this coming out as almost an afterthought for $100 and being wowed by the design, look and interior. With cargo finally coming online we might just see those 3x 32 SCU containers coming into their own at last.

Another great industrial ship I love. I use it as a general daily flyer because it can tank a lot of damage and rarely has to be refueled. Rarely draws unwanted attention too.

It's my daily driver, I love how durable it is, it can move a lot of freight, it's beautiful. It's like an RV. I will say it flys like a brick, it banks like an old Buick, and it slow, but damn it's useful.

Can you confirm that it can move smaller than 32SCU boxes. Someone told me it could but I haven't been able to confirm.

The RAFT is so nice and yet so useless. The size of the living quarters and cockpit indicates a much larger ship than it is. If you look at the Hull C it has 8x 18 of 32-SCU containers (144 containers). To load the Hull-C with the Raft you will need to make 48 trips. In comparison to a C2 you only needs 7 or 8 trips. If they were ever to redo it: - drop the weapons (make it like the SRV) - increase the cargo capacity from 3x 32 to 9 x 32 (3 rows of 3x 32 SCU containers, instead of 3 rows of 1x SCU container). It's still not great but at least makes it more viable as a cargo mover and is still in line with the current design (only the cargo grid needs to be updated ). - keep everything else the same: ARGO is 💘

I've owned one since it was released: I really can't get enough of that Space 1999 look, especially in white. Sadly it's useless, as even a Zeus CL will carry the same, but faster and in a smaller and more manoeuvrable ship. The RAFT concept demonstrates how little clue CIG had about how to manage cargo, in the last years ("we have a pretty comprehensive idea of how we will manage cargo in the game" CIG 2016). There is enough room in the RAFT for "At least" 4 containers, it has three separate cranes instead of one moving on rails, in a world where everyone moves 32 SCU with a hand tool (🤦‍♂) It can technically carry small boxes (I saw it done), except they just have to snap together like Tetris to form a 32SCU sized block to fit which is just painful to look at...(🤦‍♂) It also has the front thrusters pushing into the rear ones, when oriented back, which is not exactly a "Smart Thing" to do, but clearly the designer had no clue about basic physics. Imagine a world where you need cranes, moving platforms and forklifts ( the mule?!? Anyone?!?) and you get a ship that can deliver your Standard container at your doorstep into the Verse instead of relying on space-ports to load and unload for you; that's the world the RAFT was made for except CIG forgot the ship even existed in game.

I really like the RAFT. It feels like one of those ships that's meant to be used in this game specifically because it's like an rpg. It's not just utilitarian and only for specifically what it's billed for. I like that you can live on it and be comfortable

Yeah my best friend is a trucker, i can't wait until the game is out to get him to be my truck section commander. He wont play it until it's released, he does not like alpha gameplay and I respect it.

It should have a argo "flatdeck" ground vehicle for rapid load/unload to make it a rapid delivery ship. It would make it stand out if it had the absolute fastest loading times to make up for the size restriction

Actually the ground vehicle could even be designed around loading/unloading all the Argo ships. Would be a good way to make use of a ground base with a refinery, unloading the mole to deliver to the refinery, then loading the refined resources to the raft lol

Like everyone I love the design of this ship, and I love that it's super slow, but in terms of utility there's just better options - Freelancer max is only a little more than this and both carries more cargo and it's internal meaning it can also carry vehicles or anything else you want to carry that isn't a 32SCU container... I feel it could have a LOT more flexibility for its actual cargo area that it does currently, or just a 4th container to make it 128, equalling the Max in terms of capacity, but cheaper because it still lacks the utility.

Cargo is definitely suffering from vehicles built before game loops are set. How the tractors beams/Mule/Raft are going to be actually useful remains to be seen. I've read the relationships between orbital transport ships and the Hull ships needing the Raft to deliver to the ground. But the Hull C carries 144 of the 32scu boxes. I'm not sure how many people are going to sign on for that amount of truckin. Bring on the game loop info.

You're right! I think they'll have to make it fun and profitable. For instance maybe it takes half the time and paying people to load it is expensive. I can also imagine bargaining that price down or only paying for what you want and doing the rest yourself.

This ship can carry just about any size cargo box, however, I do wish the max capacity was at least double it's current rating. I love the industrial look of this ship and I feel they should step the shields up just a bit to make it a tad more tacky, simply due to the serious lack of offense. Anyway I love this ship and it's my go to cargo hauler for now or until a better solo capable hauler presents itself.

I do mining and I bought the Raft for one reason because of his cargo capacity, with this cargo capacity it was the cheapest option in the game. But the issue is that I can’t not fill it up to 100% and i don’t understand why. Last time I did open 3 work at the refinery and all of them were less then the capacity of the raft, and in any case I couldn't store the whole load, I had to do one at a time it wasn’t fun at all spent more then 2 hours. I don’t know if this is a bug or I’m doing something wrong. Please I need some advice.

Nice review! Wouldn't zeus be a better option for cargo hauling with 128 scu, slightly higher price, not limited by scu time, faster, cooler and with cargo not exposed. Not sure about shields/weps.

For hauling the Zeus CL is better but the raft can Load and unload much faster. Depends on what you need but your points are all accurate. I would get this if I needed quick access to cargo and didn't need to haul a lot. I would get the CL for everything else.

Personal rating (despite my personal love for its style and functional architecture) is a 6 FOR NOW... once that quick loading and Tractor beams are fully usabke that gies up to an 8 easilly. Maybe 10 if they allow you to "overload it" for exclusively non-atmospheric missions using an universal/argo module that connects to its unique loading system. I knkw thats not even really on the table, but given its external cargo nature, i dont know why it couldnt be one day.
