It's been an honestly lifechanging experience to get to talk and work with the developers at Fun Dog, and I hope that I've translated their vision to you well. Being able to share a universe I find beautiful and inspiring with others who share my same tastes is the thing I love doing most in the world, and you all have made that possible in a way I never would have expected, so thank you all for showing up for these pieces, regardless of their subject matter. Forever Winter will be, like I said in a prior video, like the Heavy Metal Magazine on the middle of the stack in the bottom shelf in the library; it's the Dragon's Heaven OVA, or Venus Wars, or the Nausicaa Manga, or World War Robot; something many people won't be into or might not get . I don't talk passionately about games because I think they'll blow up or be popular; the media I love HITS for me in some way, and I make these videos to try and explain why. Not everything I like will be for everyone - But if it IS for you, you're the homie. Hope you've enjoyed these videos, and I'm excited to keep making them. Cheers Riloe

I really like the section mentioning the humanity and humor even in this dark world. I've often said the most important part of a dark piece of media is a little bit of light to latch onto. It can't be misery 100% all the time. It's why in certain works like Berserk, my favorite moments are the quiet ones like the characters walking on the beach or looking at the stars. Or in 40k, the Orks are absolute goofballs a lot of the time (while still being quite scary other times). You just need time to breathe in these kinds of worlds.

I really hope they add those more "humanitarian" missions as time goes on, particularly if you get to see the people your helping. Perhaps even some way to more organically interact with the soldiers you encounter, like being able to patch up a wounded solider you come across on the battlefield and carry them to safety. Could even develop into a more fleshed out bartering system, where you could trade supplies like alcohol, cigarettes and food to soldiers in exchange for safe passage (I.E the don't shoot you unless you shoot at them or start looting their stuff/friends corpses).
@riloegaming4 ай бұрын
Right now they are very basic and gameified (press E on specific spot type beat) but that mission where you bring a wounded guy some cigs is in the game. While the gameplay is super simplistic, there's this authentically human and sincere tone to the quests and NPC dialogue that sells them to me, and they're my favorite quests in the game.

I have instantly got respect for the team for creating a dark future world that doesn't go full on nihilism and cynicism like 40K nor embracing comedy like Fallout or The Wasteland. Just because the world is dying and horrible things are happening don't mean **you** should be a horrible person, lack any emotions and simple desires. Neither people around you should stop being humans.
@TangiersIntrigue4 ай бұрын
Frankly, this vision that insists humans will always be selfish in extreme situations is contradicted by our very history of community-driven existence. The bleak cynicism of humans always turning on each other feels more unrealistic than many "magic" plot devices those settings use. How even after so much indoctrination, WWI soldiers still crossed the trenches during Christmas to mingle. How many franchises ignore this particular feature of humans, it just makes the setting feel less real. This, on the other hand, is the opposite. Even on such a bleak world, humanity still shines through.

True, good sci-fi has always and ever been an examination of the human condition under the lens of a future setting that’s based on the trends of the tech and culture of the current age. From soldiers running up on you thinking you’re the enemy then only to be saved by cybernetic zombies throw themselves at said soldiers giving you a split second chance to escape. My gameplay style in most games was to always pick a fight but in this game, I’m more hesitant and more times than not the only times I’ve really engaged in combat was either due to a quest requirement to eliminate X amount of a factions forces or self defense. I’ve done scav runs so efficiently that I didn’t have to fire a single round, just looted as much as I could and ran for the extraction point. I think what The Forever Winter encapsulates is exactly what I always love seeing in war movies. It's not about the action or violence, it's not about good vs evil, hell it's not even about the war itself. It's about the people who fight those wars. It's about the humanity of warfare. _THAT_ is what I love about war movies. It's their ability to take such a complicated and nuanced subject matter, boil it down to a handful of moments that you can't easily explain with words. But when you watch them, everything just clicks and you go, " _Oh_ , I get it now." Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Private Ryan, The Hurt Locker, just to name a few. the second video you made on the forever winter was the one that got me hooked on this game and thank you so much for making these videos because ironically enough the game about war and how we destroy ourselves with it made me more hopeful for the creations that will be made and as bad as war is I always saw it as a great concept to make the most disgustingly incredible games that blew me away, and I love atmosphere in games I am 99% sure i have spent at least 100 hours staring at the sky in into the radius, however I really wanted to be a content creator more to share what i love with so many people it was a dream that was eventually lost, so if you at all ever read this i just want to say thank you.

I eventually gave up on trying to be an artist, I had no education, no tools, and lost my drive. I've long since gained an education in a similar field and used it for modding games rather than what it was for (Game Development). Since I've been following TFW, and discovering more and more concept artists, I've found that burning passion again, and so desperately want to boot up Blender and get back to it, and create these things, illustrate my world, and the strong imagination I was given Thanks for covering TFW the way you have, it's been so inspiring.
