Re-upload 2. Higher quality bitrate. Got rid of Peter Handford's bird menagerie at start of Side 2, yes even at night he managed to get in those tweety birds that sometimes sound like they were perched on his head. This is a really good Argo recording though.

THANK YOU. I was born 12 years before the end of (standard guage) steam on BR, and travelled regularly on the ex-Midland line through the Peak District from Derby Midland to Manchester Central (now the G-Mex exhibition centre). I love the sound of steam on the railways.

I also took part in 2 working parties to Barry scrapyard to look for potential loco's to rescue for the then fledgeling Midland Railway Project Group (now the preserved "Midland Railway" line in Derbyshire.

Thanks for uploading 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼I loved the sound of trains in the night in the valley below our house, beginning with a hard climb up the neighbouring valley (a kind of ridge) to Fronfraith followed by a big end knock ringing a rod on the down hill stretch with the loco coasting in light steam. Never forgotten. This would have been heard while walking home from my best friend’s house late in the day for steam. Probably it was a BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 also fitted with a Swindon whistle like we hear in some of these clips. I can hear it now. The whole event took perhaps seven minutes because the train could be heard for miles.

Thanks for your comment. I have a feeling that the 8f recording on here at 3am is started late because he was caught sleeping, and could have been a lot longer!
