WOW we use this to weld, a skill we are learning in our micro machining operation, so this is great video for us as generally we have to go and search details from these videos to learn even more expansive details through research for the elements, but this time we know this one we use this one we like and we enjoy Argon. Even this shared video we did not know about the uses in Argon beyond our welding training, so we are always learning here. Thank you for the share, Lance & Patrick.

Also, with tig welding you can use a mixture of gases however, the only mixture accepted is with helium. Welders use helium because it carries more heat due to the fact that it has a higher ionization voltage thus carrying more heat. With the mix of argon and helium a welder gets the benefits of both gases. Also, titanium, stainlezs steel, and other more exotic metals respond well to copious amounts of argon.

I used to have a GE AR-1 argon glow bulb. It had an E26 or E27 medium screw base, and was designed to be operated from 120VAC mains power with no need for an external ballast resistor. The two half moon-shaped electrodes generated a purple glow; however the primary application of this lamp was as a source of UVA radiation; the lamp has several significant spectral features between 300nm and 370nm.

@BramBiesiekierski
@BramBiesiekierski 5 жыл бұрын
@@imnewtothistuff Compared to most other common types of welding, TIG is easily the most expensive. Especially an AC capable machine. Here in Australia for example, a complete entry level ACDC TIG rig is gonna cost you between AUD $2-3k once all said and done. (Machine, torch, gas, regulator, foot pedal, filler rods, tungston, gas lenses, torch consumables, trolley, table, gloves, weld mask, acetone, etc etc.) Basic stick machines can be had and setup, as a complete kit for maybe 20% of the cost of an AC TIG setup. A basic MIG setup with full kit, probably gonna cost you in the realm of 50% of an AC TIG setup. Not only that, TIG is going to cost you the most time in learning how to do it at a decent level. But I think even for a home gamer, TIG is definetely worth the extra money. Im a car guy and have used my TIG machine to build roll cages, exhausts, turbo manifolds, intercooler systems, fluid resivoirs. Repair all manner various things. I now have a pretty regular flow of odd jobs coming in from mates who need stuff TIG'd up.
@MakeItWithCalvin
@MakeItWithCalvin 5 жыл бұрын
@@BramBiesiekierski tig is the most versatile but the most costly. That said with the rise of multipurpose machines you can do stick/tig in the same machine which covers most bases. Stick for fast work TIG for precise.

I welded with that stuff, there was nothing better. My co-worker thought it was flammable - I told him it would only burn if you could put it in the core of a star... then proved it to him. Some of the more expensive pork is packed in argon because carbon dioxide can be consumed by bacteria. So, it's better to pay a little more for pork!

Okay, I'm a welder here. Professional as well as certified. Anyway your last few lines about how argon and CO2 are added for tig welding is wrong. With tig you need an absolute inert atmosphere. However, CO2 is added when using the mig welding process. Infact a popular mix is called C25, because it is 25% CO2 and 75% Argon.

Errr no its not.tig welding is done in pure Argon only. Mix CO2 and your tungsten electrode would catch fire! If you want the hottest weld temperature use helium not argon. You will get up to 3x the heat into the weld using pure Helium. The only issue is the arc is not so bright using Helium and automatic welding helmets frequently do not shutter down so you can get very bad arc flashed eyes. So more people use a 50/50 mix of Argon and Helium.

Seems “argonaut,” means “purveyors of passivity, or laziness.” Weird how chemistry and physics use Greek words, and medicine and biology uses latin terms. What gives?
