Now I wasn’t expecting anything from the Silmarillion in my local neighbourhood ASMR. That’s some deep lore stuff. Where did they turn Ungolianth into a maiar? I always understood her as being a being from the void that was eternal hunger personified. Anyway, comparing between different settings is always a recipe for disaster. Stuff doesn’t translate well.

Ungoliant from the book of lost tales is explicitly a mystery. In Christopher's publications derived from Tolkien's unpublished materials downgrade her a fair bit and remove a lot of her mystery.
