An excellent review of my favorite series. For each of the three seasons, the production team headed for the real Venice...including, once, during the feast of Redentore, which they stumbled into all unknowing, to their sorrow. The original manga shows many scenes drawn straight from the real Venice, since it's really just a love poem to Venice, and so the anime also shows Venice in most of its outdoor shots. You can visit almost all of these settings IRL. As a result, if and when you visit today's Venice, you may have the same experience I did: a peculiar form of mental double vision, where what you are looking at is overlaid by the setting of Aria. Talk about magical experiences! I almost expected to run into Cait Sith down some small alley. It's just too bad the semi-submerged palazzo built over an onsen doesn't actually exist. Now, THAT would be magical!

Aria is my all-time favourite slice-of-life Anime. I honestly can't see another SoL Anime topping this for me. It's just the perfect, relaxing, cosy, feel good Anime and the setting, atmosphere and soundtrack all compliment each other wonderfully. I definitely give the whole series a 10/10.

Thank you for making such a nice review, yes it is very hard to pinpoint the beauty of this anime but you were able to deliver words that justified its intent. An anime for more mature open minded viewers somewhat free from the stereotypical kinds but does not fail to impart memorable scenes/stories that sometimes (in my case always) wish you were there just to be away from it all. It's true that many Anime past and present are known for its fan services but I never really use the word objects nor does it bother me nor reduce my respect for the female characters involved, its just part of the culture, besides fan services doesn't even need to have the sexuality theme, even a harmless swimsuit episode is enough to call it fan service and Aria had (if my memory serves me right) one but non the less it was executed in a very subtle manner but never fails to tickle the imagination of fans seeing their favorite gondolier showing some more skin (for lack of a more subtle word) than just seeing them in their usual uniforms even for one episode only. Speaking of new episodes Aria The Avvenire ep 1 is out since last December 2015 as part of the celebration of the 10th year anniversary of Aria the Animation pilot episode and it retained the beauty of this anime and I love the fact that Hazuki Erino reprised her role as Akari with a more mature voice for her, still no ep 2 but I'm hoping the series pushes through and maybe more merchandises along with it, would really love to have articulated figs of all the main characters of this series with their gondolas.

I recommend the manga as well, they did a really good job in the anime of translating the artist/writer's work over into the animation.

One of my top 3 anime series. The one complaint I repeatedly see in reviews is the overuse of the "deformed" style. Because they followed the manga style so closely they neglected to realize that a deformed reaction shot lasts a single panel, while the animation of it might last 10 or more seconds and be quite jarring, taking you out of the mood of the scene.
@RMoribayashi9 жыл бұрын
My personal nit to pick is time. Measured by the 6 month Martian seasons the manga takes place over a 3 to 4 (Earth) year period. The first anime picked stories out of sequence since there was no guarantee any more would be made. This stretched Akari's apprenticeship at Aria Co. to an unrealistic 7+ years, (two before the first episode).

Aria is the best anime ever to me. It detrone even the mighty One Piece. Due been unenployed for a while, and often alone i become quite depressive and also hyphondric. But this series would make me smile. I am so glad that i watch it and have all manga volumes, it is one of very few things that keep me afloat (that how severe my depression is).

I really enjoyed this anime despite putting it on hold for about 1-2 years because I forgot about it half way through the second season. I have to say it feels a little drawn out when they overly emphasize Akari's perspective of beauty and it goes in circles about why something is so wonderful, but it only happens for 5mins within an episode. I've actually been so impacted by this anime that I'm I want to do a review for it even though I'm not familiar with reviewing that's why I'm here to get some ideas haha. My review will be more sarcastic, but hitting the main points discussed in reviews such as yours. Also the reason I love this anime is the way it ended. Instead of feeling "omg it's finally over that was good," I felt "NOO why is it over!!" The last season would not have been as good as it was without the enjoyable and constructive progression of the previous seasons. You have to put in the time into this anime to fully enjoy it, but it will return your efforts. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding did the colonists transport some of the original buildings from Venice to New-Venice? I believe it was mentioned in 'The Origination' It also explains why that had to be renovated.

Aria has to be one of my all time favourites along with Sora no Woto (Sound of the sky), Kaleido Star, Croisée in a Foreign Labyrinth and Hanasaku Iroha. I highly recommend you review those ones too. They are all so fantastic. For now I'm waiting for the special ova of Aria to come out. :D

Excellent review, you really covered all your points in a very coherent and convincing way. This was also the first video I watched from you, so you left a pretty good impression. Plus, it helps that I share the same opinion of Aria as you, as it is my absolute favorite show of all time. Its just really nice to see the few, but dedicated fans like you spread the word of this lesser known title. It even topped Cowboy Bebop in my eyes, and I really love that show. And as an aside, I could not help but see a few parallels between this show and Bebop. I mean yeah, Bebop is more pessimistic than Aria (I mean just look at the Mars depicted in each series), but they both follow an episodic structure, have a stronger focus on the characterization of its cast, feature an overarching plot, and employ the use of a spectacularly fitting and melodic soundtrack. But I digress. Since you mentioned it, I am curious as to what these "all time greatest story" episodes of Aria are. Have you considered a video dedicated to talking about the best episodes of the series, or perhaps quickly addressing them in a Q&A?
@miva12148 жыл бұрын
probably eps 9 of the origination. That episode is so wonderful i even have the urge to cry only from remembering it.
@OPFan148 жыл бұрын
+M.Fariz Masyhuri Oh, that episode is fantastic, easily one of the best ones. Heck, it's a favorite of Ryou Hirohashi's, the voice actress of Alice. According to an interview with her, it took Ryou at least 3 tries to nail down the final scene because of how much she was crying. Personally my favorite is OVA Arietta, if only because of how much it connects to the third season, if you know what I mean.

If humanity reaches a point where it has terraformed mars, Aria is exactly how life will be for the typical human, humble life goals that makes life fulfilling and simple. Human dominion will be peaceful and and time isn't the most scarce resource that it currently is with our generation.

4:00 that's kind of a cheap shot. Fanservice doesn't make a character an object, they can still be interesting and real. Rei, Asuka, Sinon and Chi are just a few examples I can think of right off the bat. Now, if they are portrayed shittily, then I agree completely with you, fanservice just makes it worse, like with every single other SAO female character, harem shows and ecchis.

CalamackLP Well it's episodic, so pacing isn't really relevant. There's a new story each episode.

well, what I mean is every clip you showed seemed to be very uneventful, I was just wondering if the show was like this as well. (I think) that pacing can exist within a single episode?
