Definitely, he mentioned that he’s “using” a Rickenbacker on the Planet Earth video but an Aria Pro in the recording.

I think that was actually his SB Black n Gold which I'm fairly certain is the SB Elite I bass. He did however play the SB-1000 before he got his SB Black n Gold which you can see in any of the live videos where the frets are regular dots or the bridge is fully gold

I thought I'd revisit this breakdown of the Aria Pro II SB1000 & I guess I must have missed it the first time of viewing & Yes the 3 bass players but they missed out Sting but anyone no too ashamed to admit they liked Duran Duran knows it was John Taylor who is still the bassist of Duran Duran he became the official poster boy for his various range of Aria models he used & Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitar saw sales go through the roof because of the bass lines he came up with on his Aria Bass Guitars... Aa I've said he had a few different Aria made in Matsumoku Japan bass guitars but it's true that the Aria Pro II SB1000 is the one he's more associated with & again the bass lines he came up with along with the built in 6 switch eq gave his Aria Bass Guitars a very distinctive sweet sound whether played with finger style & doing hammer ons on these basses... You just need to back to their first 3 albums to hear how amazing these Matsumoku Made In Japan Aria Basses Sounded & why a certain amount of great bassist found themselves gravitating towards them & rightly so as they had quite a few great built in sounds... The mid & late 70s to the start of the 80s saw bassist tired of the usual Fender Bass Guitars & I meant no disrespect as I own quite a few but bassists back then were tired of of only a few basses that were worth playing them Live & , again , it was the Fender Precision/Fender Jazz & the MusicMan Stingray with the latter also having a very distinctive sound thar no other bass guitar I know of since can replicate the MusicMan Stingray sound... You had the wizards at Alembic coming out with absolutely one of the best bass guitars built but you literally had to have some serious cash to afford one of their bass guitars & it's still true today as it was in the mid 70s when they started to take the bass guitar on to a new level of sound & the craftsmanship was 2nd to known but for many aspiring bass guitar players that want to emulate that sound eventually got it but also a bass that has its own distinctive sound away from the Alembic sound while giving bassist the nearest sound to those bass guitars but at a fraction of the price... English luthier John Diggins was working away at various types of bass guitars he was building until he was constantly inundated with bass players visiting time him or calling him & asking him to build a bass guitar that could delver a sound similar to the Alembic Bass Guitars & not long after giving in to these request we saw John Diggins releasing the JD Supernatural Series I Bass Guitar which quickly became a huge hit back 4 decades ago & still is today & he has went on to build various version of the JD aka JayDee Bass Guitars... Not only did he deliver a great bass guitar that could give you his version & take on the Alembic sound but he created the JD Supernatural Series I & many other various models that were easily recognizable but these bass guitars cost a fraction of the price than that for an Alembic & like John Taylor being the unofficial poster boy of the Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitar it was Mark King of Level 42 that became the unofficial poster boy fir the JD Supernatural Series I Bass Guitar & like John Taylor's amazing bass lines & the sounds of the Matsumoku made in Japan Aria Pro II SB1000 a greatly desired bass because of John & Mark King of Level 42 also saw John Diggins Custom Guitars inundated with requests to have the same bass guitar as Mark King so they to could get the sound he got on the JD Bass Guitars... But for these 2 gentlemen forget to mention the bass player responsible for seeing the Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitars sold in their many many millions worth of these specific basses makes be wonder if they are bassists or actually players of other instruments , as I've seen way too many bass demo's to know that the person doing the review & playing isn't a full time bass player... At the end of all of this is just 1 Question because as I said earlier I came back to this demo as there's barely any on these reissues & all I want to know is do the Aria Pro II SB1000 Bass Guitar Reissues sound exactly like or as near to sounding like the various version built & made in Matsumoku Japan!... It's fast become a joke with bass guitar reviews on most bass guitar on sale & the reviews & playable demo's are clearly done by lead & rythmn guitarist who play the bass enough to just pass or its other players who's chosen go to instrument isn't the bass guitar but they want a review & do a quick demo done for instrument store's selling particular bass guitars & they ought to have people who's chosen instrument is the bass guitar but this rarely happens , especially in the UK... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus and it's variants stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....

Did Sting play one? He played an Ibanez Musician that looked like this but I don't remember seeing him with this one ... a lot played these Aria in early 80's, even Bruce Foxton at the end of The Jam and Paul Weller played one (maybe the same one?) on some Style Council live shows.

I’d like to see a comparison between the original and reissue. I see the bridge is different. The neck looks a little different too. I bought mine in 88 in Japan for $250 used I think.🤔 They said no one even looked at it. I saw 👀 it and was in love.

I own a 2022 SB-1000, and it's definitely not a reissue, it's an SB-1000 with significant changes. It doesn't have the original bridge, string spacing, or preamp. I don't mind the string spacing at 19mm or the ghoto bridge, but the preamp does not sound as good as the original. It lacks in the low end and treble, IMO. Also, not having the original bridge that had more mass and counter sunk into the body may have contributed to the tone. Too bad I sold my 1985 SB-1000, I could have done a comparison.

I’m pretty sure he used the Black N' Gold I bass which is very similar to the R-60. He could be possible that he used his Rickenbacker for the recordings too. The majority of people don’t know that he still had an identical Rickenbacker to the one that malfunctioned. There’s pictures of him playing it in the Damage, Inc tour.

The Aria SB-1000's are a veritable classic bass in their own right. Lovely to play, though they weigh a ton! I've always preferred the passive tone of them, not a fan of any of the active tones in these TBH.... That's why I got my '79 'Batwing' SB-700

Why didn't the guy doing the demo play it with the treble on/off Active/Passive as he went through all various the settings on the selector switch & the different sounds it can do!.. As the Aria Pro SB1000/SB700/SB900 & Elite all had distinctive sounds that many bassist playing through many genres used the original made in Matsomoku Japan Aria models had but i could really tell on this too jokey demo... Although those Matsomoku made Aria Pro SB Series & Elite Basses were heavy that lent a sold sound throughout the Aria various versions of that bass but thats 2 videos I've looked at & , with respect to them , the players just dont cut it when doing a demo to showing off any bass guitar... All i want to know is does the reissue of the Aria Pro II SB 1000 sound exactly or as near as the original made in Matsomoku Japan versions because if not , in my humble opinion , they arent worth the money if they sound nothing like the originals... Its akin to the old belief of the old ongoing opinion that many bassists prefer Leo Fender's MusicMan Stingray as to Ernie Ball's MusicMan Stingray Basses but at the Ernie Ball MusicMan Stingray still captured Leo's distinctive & easily recognisable sound from a Stingray & for the purest that prefer Leo's they can at least agree that Ernie Balls version still captures that iconic sound of Leo's & me thinks its other factors that devide Leo's from Ernie's in Bass Fans eyes & ears but do let me know which MusicMan You Prefer & Why!.. I'd love to buy one of these reissues if they still got the original SB II 1000 sound but whoever is making these in Japan arent gettung their promotional moneys worth as , again , thats 2 demos ive watched & its as if they dragged anyone in to do a demo with actual great playing all the while letting us hear the various sounds & as much as i hate to admit this but this happens way too many times when its a specific bass demo... Sure there are some amazing one's but all bass demos should be amazing & again its like they grab of of their staff members to do this & at times its done with too much joking & not enough of making sure any demo is done properly... In finishing , im all for some fun & laughs during a demo of any instrument just as long as they nail the rest of the demo perfectly with regards to all of the overall sounds or 90% of them & as it should be as this demo definitely doesnt make me feel like i'd invest money on one og these basses unless they captured th oringinal made in Matsomoku Japan versions... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....
