Back in 1986, I was 16, and Aliens and The Fly were showing as a double feature at our local movie theater. I went with my cousin and a friend from school and we were just blown away by both films. That was the only double feature I've been to.

Aria, due to the limited budget of this film, Stan Winston and his effects crew were only able to create six hero alien suits, so that's the full amount you see on screen at any one time. The way they lighted, shot, and edited each sequence allowed for your imagination to fill in the gaps and make it seem like there were many, many more. That was James Cameron at his peak.

Bill Paxton(Hudson) was great at entertainingly playing an obnoxious character. For more of that, see him in "Near Dark," "True Lies," "Weird Science, and, briefly, in "The Terminator." "The Edge Of Tomorrow" is the last movie I saw him in. Jenette Goldstein(Vasquez) and Lance Henricksen(Bishop) are also in " Near Dark" with Bill Paxton. He was a central character in "Mighty Joe Young," "Twister" and "Traveler." James Cameron intended to create a role for him in the "Avatar" sequel but Bill died too soon.

Where Burke gets the xenomorph at the door they take him down to the nest where ripley sees him and gives him a grenade to blow himself up which he does the reason why they took the clip out was due to the timing where they take you to the hive to either be egg juice or impregnated .

"Get away from her, you bitch!" One of the best sci-fi duopolies ever made. The other being the two movie Terminator franchise. I'm so glad that Hollywood exercised a measure of control and never made any more sequels. Yep, no more Alien movies whatsoever. 👍 😎 Fun Fact: Al Matthews, who plays a Marine sergeant in this film, was in real life the first black Marine to be promoted to the rank of sergeant in the field during service in Vietnam. Movie Magic Fact: The full-size queen puppet was actually too big to fit into the elevator. For the shot where she is seen there, her tail was removed, and yet the back of the elevator still had to be opened to accommodate the prop; smoke effects, dark lighting, and a black curtain at the back obscure this. Cute Kid Fact: When filming the scene with Newt in the duct, Carrie Henn kept deliberately blowing her scene so she could slide down the vent, which she later called a slide three stories tall. James Cameron finally dissuaded her by saying that if she completed the shot, she could play on it as much as she wanted. She did and he kept his promise.

Ah, Aria is finally getting to my all time favorite movie. This should be a fun reaction. This was Carrie Henn's (Newt) first and last movie. She retired from acting after this, and is now a schoolteacher. Paul Reiser (Burke) is mostly known for playing sitcom husbands/dads. His characters are usually very nice guys. He threw a lot of people here because nobody knew he could play a villain so effectively. 29:25 I like that one of the takeaways from this movie is that not all robots are assholes. A lot people in your comments are encouraging you to not watch any further in this series. While I can't guarantee that you'll like all the other Alien movies, I'd encourage you to judge them for yourself instead of taking other people's word for it. Personally I think Alien 3 and the prequels are mid, but Alien Resurrection is my second favorite film in the franchise after Aliens so I advise you not to miss it.

"Aliens": Third Officer Ripley has been found and has a Xenomorph-sized case of PTSD. What will the Weyland-Yutani suits make of her blowing up the "Nostomo"? 2:35 I see that you're watching the Special Edition version, with footage not seen in 1986. 6:53 Jenette Goldstein is/was a bodybuilder and was fluent in Spanish for "illegal Hispanic alien" movie roles. 8:46 The Power Loader was so convincing that construction companies contacted the studio to find out where they got them! 11:26 The Hamsters are too small to be hosts, which explains why Jones the Cat survived. 12:48 In 1986, I wondered how Ripley was able to "get close, quickly" to Rebecca. A reviewer of the time said: "Sisterhood!" After I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!), I confirmed my suspicion that Ripley had been a parent. 14:49 I always thought that disarming troops headed into a hot zone was a bad idea. The Robot Sentry Boogaloo was a welcome SE surprise. 27:57 They went out like Klingon warriors. 29:30 The right tool for the job, with Duct tape. Aww, just like the studio, you deleted the ""Dwayne and Ellen" exchange.:( 31:08 Egg chamber. 34:24 The final battle. If you continue, the "Assembly Cut" of "Alien3" (1992) is somewhat OK. Who is this "Jennifer Lawrence" again?;) Sigourney Weaver has said that "Aliens" is about guns; I always though it was about Family.
@CoffeeMatt10
@CoffeeMatt10 Жыл бұрын
Nice summary of events. The added scenes regarding Ripley’s daughter and Newt’s family give a bigger payoff to the finale when Newt calls Ripley “mommy”. The Sentry Turret scenes make their situation even more dire as they have thrown everything at the Aliens, and the Aliens still find a way to get to them. Family? That’s the Fast franchise 😂 Jennifer Lawrence gets such a hard time for that silly comment about female leads. Solid actress and absolutely adorably dorky when she gets to be herself… especially when she’s drunk 😂 she’s THAT friend in a group of friends 😂

I think Burke just panicked, pure and simple. He thought that the Marines were going to just execute him right then and there (though Hicks would have listened to Ripley, I think), and so he just tried to lock them away with the aliens to die. Then if he could get back to Bishop, he could order Bishop to fly him back up to the main ship and escape. He'd have failed to bring back the specimens, but at this point I think he was just trying to keep from being killed. Thankfully that one alien decided to sneak around the back way. 😁

As one of the producers, David Giler (sp?), said... Alien was the "haunted house" and Aliens was the "roller coaster." So glad you watched the Director's cut of this. The theatrical cut the scene talking about her losing her daughter, so that whole sub-plot was gone. Also, in this version, her and Hicks exchange first names, so we never would know her first name was Ellen... a very touching scene not in the theatrical version. And my favorite moment (in both versions) when Newt grabbed Ripley at the end and calls her "Mommy" - I lose it everytime.

I think at the end Burke was just trying to escape. The marines had already decided to execute him. If he stayed with them, they either all die then the aliens get him too, or they survive and then they kill him. No way to live if he stays with them. But Bishop didn't know that everybody else decided to execute him. So if he gets outside, he tells Bishop that the aliens killed everybody else and then he and Bishop escape the planet. That was his only chance. Didn't work out for him. The actor (Paul Reiser) told a story about taking his mom to see this movie and when the alien got Burke, the whole audience cheered, including his own mother. That's good acting. He's a comedian. Almost every role he's ever done was to be a cute funny guy in romantic comedies. And this. Acting so good in a serious villain role that even his own mother is happy to see the character die.

In the novels the alien in the first film from 79 was turning Brett and Dallas into what is called an ovimorph... or a egg pod that would have a face hugger in it. The end scene with Ripley in the shuttle has two other endings filmed one with her in hyper sleep and the camera pans to an egg behind the equipment. Another ending was where she is killed by the alien and then it sends the distress call using her voice. The idea of the ovimorph, egg on the ship, and Ripley dying were not well received by test audiences and by the board of Fox at the time so they scrapped them. Instead the scene with Dallas in the gear with the slime on him was chalked up to the alien creating a larder or pantry for storage. Interestingly, I have the ALIEN novel purchased from about five years ago and one from back in 79 and the latter has more stuff in it!... alot more stuff. They filmed a scene in Alien where the creature is fascinated by lights in an air lock and Parker and Ripley try to vent the lock to space if the creature goes in. Ash alerts the beast at the last moment and the door cuts off an arm of the creature spilling acid into the corridor and lock... Ripley and Parker are exposed to vacuum and that is why Ripley has bloody nose when she confronts ash in the Mu th ur computer suite. In Aliens she runs into Burke who grabs her with a freed arm in a cocoon... he has already been implanted with a xenomorph chest buster and begs Ripley to kill him... she primes a grenade and hands it to him... he holds the spoon as long as he can... When she and Newt turn to leave the big explosion is Burke and it forces them to divert thru the queens chamber. In the books the xenomorphs adopt the dna of their hosts to make them more suitable to the environment. In one comic book they have an alien that bursts from a panther and its very stealthy and more vicious that the others... another comes out of a giant snake on the same planet as well as a Gorilla type. In Alien 3 the xeno was supposed to emerge from a bull and they had planned to give it horns as it rammed people... instead it came from a dog (people care about dogs...thats why) and they made the creature run people down like the bull but it would eviscerate them like an attacking dog. So they must grow in a host to complete their development and fill in the blanks in their dna.

Aliens is, surely, one of the most perfectly crafted blockbusters movies ever. The director James Cameron is such a rare creature, whose history of excellence (and being a challenging taskmaster) is virtually unrivalled. Even when he was younger and working on Galaxy of Terror, he quickly expanded his contribution to its production until he was working on almost every part of the film, including as both Production Designer and Second Unit Director. And some visual ideas etc in that made their way into Aliens. Personally I prefer the original Aliens cut to this much longer Directors Cut, as I think the extra scenes (the backstory near the start, the stuff about automatic robot gun emplacements etc) slow it down and don't add anything important, but both are great. Sigourney Weaver also absolutely fantastic and it's like Ripley has been stamped onto the imagination of many millions of cinema-goers. Ripley's almost more powerful than simply a character - she's like a vision of integrity and everyday resourcefulness. A victim who won't let that define her, instead rising above it and showing amazing natural leadership. And she shows how everyday folk (the marines) are also decent people with big potential, provided they aren't being misdirected. They're kind-of list and she's their shepherd, or mother. I love details like how Hicks lurches for Newt when he first meets her, but learns to be more calm and fatherly later. To find himself and switch off the marine act a bit. There's a nice realism to the characters and, while there's still a lot of foreshadowing in the film (even more in this Director's Cut such as talking about bee hives), it balances that with some nice reversal of expectations (such as allowing Vasquez and Drake to eschew the supposed big nuclear explosion risk and start shooting). And Gorman accepted his shortcomings quickly and didn't become a stereotypical 'bad leader refusing to lose control' etc. I like how the film delivers new information with multiple meanings, so that you can't quite know how each new thing will affect the plot. For example, the early use of the construction walker is foreshadowing its possible use later ... but actually the scene is being used also to 1) have her charming and impressing Hicks and Apone and 2) show her usefulness. So it makes the scenes important without them just appearing to be there for one plot reason, keeping us guessing. I love how it hits us hard too, for example when the aliens cut the power and attack through the ceiling within the space of under a minute - hammering it into us how intelligent they are, rather than just dripfeeding the idea. And, of course, not a single bit of CGI in the film (that I'm aware of). I love these masterclass films and, in other genres, it's films like The Sting, The Princess Bride, Casablanca etc that are similarly at the absolute top of their game.

35:15 "How is she even climbing out of that?" Plot armor? IDK. Although the atmosphere would decrease in pressure, and velocity, each passing moment, so less air resistance with increasing time... though also less air, and less partial pressure of oxygen to work with too. Certainly would seem improbable, but there are many factors.

Aliens is a marvelous sequel. I know that many fans regard this as a better movie than Alien. I disagree with that sentiment, but to each their own. Aria, I love how in your summary you appear to have empathy for the aliens/xenomorphs who are unable to be born and what their circumstances would be, lol. You sound like a nerdy fangirl, and that's a good thing. Another fantastic reaction. Keep 'em coming, Aria! You rock!

Really cool movie!!! I remember when I was a child, this movie was often shown on TV and I wasn't so scared, but everything in the movie was very interesting and I really like James Cameron's films, I'm really looking forward to Avatar 3, Alita 2 and I hope that Cameron will make a decent movie in the Terminator universe in 3-4 years, he is already writing a script for a new film.

He’s also handpicked for the mission, probably a “company man”, or at the very least a “yes man”. They would’ve assessed him and noted that he doesn’t handle stressful situations, making him perfect for when hell breaks loose. And as he would be in charge, but also a “yes man”, he would take Burke’s orders instead of listening to Ripley… which is what Hicks did when Gorman was incapacitated.

I'm glad you remarked on Gorman and his redemption moment, and that you got to watch Bishop as a good guy android. Since you mentioned the alien design, they were originally created by Swiss artist, H.R. Giger. His artwork is very bizarre (and much of it would be offensive to many), but he was a talented guy.
@CoffeeMatt10

People tend to gloss over the fact that Gorman is Weyland-Yutani’s handpicked replacement LT. for the squad. He is inexperienced and clearly doesn’t work well in pressure environments, making him “perfect” for the plan (bring back lifeform, all other priorities rescinded - crew expendable). He doesn’t know the squad (getting Hicks and Hudson mixed up) and is an outsider. When they are having their meal, he is sat on the same table as Burke, Bishop and Ripley, to show how much apart from the squad he is.

Glad you loved the sequel, i think most people do and to be honest in my opinion easily one of the greatest sequels and sci-fi films ever made and a very steep hill to climb after the original been so damn good too, would urge you though not to carry on with the series even though Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in every one of the films is excellent and one of the best ever heroines to grace any screen, after this one the series took a nose dive in how good each one was and never got better than this. This movie had everything- Action, Horror, Death, Life, Comedy, Suspense..... it just does not stop giving the viewer everything a film is made for and i would say has one of the best endings of any film i have ever watched and as for the Director James Cameron this is his best work i think, the only other film i have ever seen and thought the ending was as near perfectly done as this was Die Hard. Great reaction Aria to an absolute classic film👌.

You were too smart to hate Bishop all the way through, which was supposed to make you angry when, at the end, he wasn't at the platform to pick up Ripley and Newt. But you saw the goodness in him. I also liked that you saw Hudson as just a normal person expressing his fears (which I thought were hilarious). Some reactors had this awful resentment toward him, but I found him entertaining. I also liked that you left in the line with Vasquez shooting back at Hudson at the beginning, when he asked her if she was ever mistaken for a man. I love that scene. And I found Vasquez BEAUTIFUL. Nice reaction. :)

When the aliens dropped through the ceiling Burke probably realised that his best hope of survival was to lock the others in so they wouldn't survive to incriminate him. He could leave them for dead, get to Bishop and order him to take him off as soon as the dropship arrived.

Burke... Paul Riser, had a tv show with Helen hunt called, Mas About U. Cameron made a few appearances on it! Bishop... Lance Henrikson, also in terminator, and aliens 3, as a human. Ridley Scott did Alien and Bladerunner. Its ironic that in Bladerunner, Terminator and Aliens movies, there's always fake humans!😮😮😮

In the "Alien" movies, the question really is: "who are the aliens?". The answer is: we all are. Great reaction, and well done in editing the movie. What was Burke thinking? Only of himself. He knew that if he survived and the group survived they would blame him, so he decided to use the aliens to get rid of the others. Why? Because he was a sociopath (as all the "company people" are in the Alien series. They, too, are alien, other, not human. The androids are alien too, but some (Bishop) are more human than some humans (Burke). Even Ripley is an alien... or in her case an Ellen. Her name is no coincidence.

I was one who ran out to rent Aliens Directors Cut as soon as it was released. But now I contend that the theatrical cut was the better film. The timing and pacing was better in the original, and the extra scenes actually detract from the mystery and tension.
@BubblyRainbows

I like the Extended Version, but not substantially more than the Theatrical release. I just feel like they made one mistake in the theatrical release, and that was cutting the scene where Ripley finds out about her daughter. They could have left out every other extra scene in the extended edition, but they should have kept that one.

5:37 "What would you say if I told you I could get you reinstated as a flight officer?" Personally, I would have _misgivings_ about that under _any_ circumstances, depending on just what it _means_ to be a flight officer. Ripley just spent 50 years in _stasis._ Let's just take a minute to put that in context. Spending 50 years in stasis _nowadays_ would mean coming out of stasis in 2023 that you went _into_ in _1973._ Now in 1973, the technology was pretty advanced, but it progressed by _leaps and bounds_ just over the next _ten_ years. By leaps and bounds _more_ with every _subsequent_ decade. Ripley has just _done_ this. Now I _have_ to figure that up-to-date technical skills are even _more_ important between the years of 2122 and 2172. Nowadays, in the early 21st century, one who has a degree in something _technical_ has to undergo, as I recall reading, a week of _refresher_ training, every year, to keep their skills _current._ If you opt to forego this, you're going to find it progressively _more_ difficult, every year, to stay in _demand._ So foregoing this for _50 years_ means one will have to undertake _overhaul-level_ retraining to become _qualified,_ again. But Burke just offered to get Ripley reinstated as a flight officer, and possibly breeze her right past _all_ of this?

19:47 The little girl survived because the Xenomorph queen allowed it. They hunt by heat and echo location, the hissing sound they make is a heat echo sensor close to a bat. So hiding, would still revel you to there heat location. It would be a smart move for the Xenomorph Queen to leave 1 alive to ensure more will come "for rescue or just come" The little girl is not a threat to them, as we saw they were bedding down for hibernation. The Queen only started laying eggs again when she knew more host were present. Sense these Xenomorphs have a Queen, there actions and movements are by her command.

False. If the queen was intentionally going to leave someone as bait, it would not be a defenseless child, who probably wouldn't survive on her own. It would be someone who could call for help. There's also zero indication the aliens use bait.

14:59 "Is he fuckin' _crazy?!"_ I would think, as a _Marine_ officer, he would know better than to order _Marines_ to _disarm._ If you have a military unit in a setting in which it's dangerous to discharge _firearms,_ you don't resolve this by telling them to _disarm._ You resolve it by having the unit pull back to the last place they were where firearms were _safe_ to discharge.

Yes, the 'face hugger' that comes out of the egg needs a host. If the face hugger attaches to a dog like in the not so good Alien 3, the Alien is part dog and on all fours. The Alien will carry DNA from whatever creature was the host. 'Alien vs Predator' isn't a great film but it's worth watching for the fight scenes and some of the action.

Well Aria, have to say I enjoyed your reaction. Best part at 27:00 with the fingers. Im sure you did this unconsciously. Have to check back and let us know. This is what like to see in reaction video maker. Did you watch reactions made by "Devin G, Dasha, and EOM" ? Im sure they gave you good idea how to make you better reaction. My one complaint was you didnt show enough of the expressions by Hudson the became Pop culture expressions. There are many more movies in the series. I must say to understand the series you MUST watch PROMETHIUS , it is the pre sequel to Alien. Be sure to watch the version which has extended conversation between David and the Engineer. It explains much about the aliens, the company and the the robots. David is the first, Ash is the second and then Bishop. One of the other in the sequels follows David. As far as the other movies in the series I have to say ahhhhhhhhhh. Other than Promethius I think they are junk. Other fans I know will disagree. See what you think..

I'll second watching "Alien 3," especially if it's the Assembly Cut. I really do think the extra material elevates the movie and fixes some of the issues the original Theatrical Release had. There are definitely those who didn't like it, but there are plenty of people who enjoyed it too. And personally, I wish people would stop telling reactors to skip movies in these franchises. I might not like Movie X, but that's just my opinion. By encouraging you to skip it, I might be talking you into skipping a movie you would actually enjoy. I suggest watching them all and making up your own mind. ✌🤓

James Cameron was meticulous about everything being set up and paid off which is so satisfying. The queen isn't shown getting on the shuttle but an explosion buffeted the shuttle into the platform and wreckage is shown being caught in the landing bay. I'd point out that after watching numerous times that Ripley mad a (totally understandable) error in escalation management. If she'd only destroyed half the eggs there would have still been room to negotiate with the queen. Life lessons from movies haha.

Bladerunner 😮😮😮in the prequel movie to all, Prometheus, Engineers were the first being, with its chest blown out, in the chair! Engineers seed life on planets and if they don't like how the life is progressing they seed another life to wipe out the remaining then they destroy each other! Engineers created humans, Aliens supposedly Predators, and gave humans the technology for Replicants and Terminators!😮😮the knife trick, Bill Paxton didn't know that he was going to be in it! _Alien_ is a _horror_ sci-fi movie. _Aliens,_ though, is an _action_ sci-fi. Generally, these cost more to make, and so they're a lot more likely to be the _second_ movie in a series if the first one did well. This pattern also bears out in the _Terminator_ franchise. The _first_ movie was a _horror_ sci-fi that did very well at the box office. The second was _action._ It cost a lot more to _make,_ but it made enough back at the box office to _compensate_ for this.
