An absolute classic, with superb practical effects. John Carpenter really knocked it out of the park with this one. I saw it back in the cinema as a teenager when it first was released and it was like nothing else before. If you like, read the novella *Who goes there?* by John W Campbell Jr, the inspiration for this movie. It’s quite excellent, and nearing 100 years old now. I’ve already given you my long list of suggested October movies. Hope you get to check out a couple of them.

Interesting bit of trivia: Although it appears to be an all male cast, the director also gave his then wife, Adrienne Barbeau, a cameo in it. She is the voice of the chess computer, Kurt Russell is playing at the start of the movie. But the really interesting part is that after the computer beats him, Russell pours his drink on it and calls her a cheating b!tch. And it kind of makes you wonder whether John Carpenter added that line later as a joke or as some kind of cloaked comentary on his own marriage, which ended in divorce a few years later.

WELCOME TO THE "I SAW THE THING" CLUB! From now on, you'll want to invite others to see this for the First time and watch THEM jump out of their skins watching it! I saw this when it first came out in the Theater, and as we left we saw a Woman in Full Panic. She threw up, uncontrollable bodily shakes and Screamed when her boyfriend tried to hug her! The Special effects of this Movie STILL surpass anything CGI can do. They did a Prequel in 2011, and you can compare the two techniques.

Some will say the scariest movies ever made (in the US, anyway) are THE EXORCIST, THE THING and ALIEN I & II. But the one I think that is the scariest of all of them is a TV movie made back in 1983 called THE DAY AFTER. In fact when it aired it freaked out so many people, the network that aired it did not rerun it in the summer like they usually did with all their other movies out of a sense of responsibility to not traumatize the public any further. It is a little dated but it is still effective and suddenly strangely topical today. But it is worth a look just for historical reasons to see what not just the Americans but the entire western world was freaking out over in the '80s (and today as well) If interested it is available on KZbin at kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6rcaqFup5ZpntU I've seen it many times but I'd love to see your reaction to it too.

And yet Another one I missed by months lol. Don't worry about the close up, you're cute anyway. As for the movie, there is a fan theory that the way to tell, in the last few minutes anyway, to tell who was the Thing, was to look for the lack of breath. Then there has been connecting comics that shows McCready survived and found out Childs Was the thing. The character that appeared in the end.

1:55 The star of this movie, Kurt Russell, doesn't normally have his beard grown out that much so he looks different here, making him harder to place. He worked with this director, John Carpenter, a lot (Escape From New York/LA, Big Trouble In Little China, and this movie) and did some comedy films (Overboard, Captain Ron) in the '80s and '90s. Later in his career he was the dad in Sky High, and the main villain of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2. 5:30 You have nothing to worry about, you're a gorgeous woman. Not really any noticeable imperfections here. 13:15 Fun fact: There's a website called Does The Dog Die that you can go to before watching a movie to find out if there's a dog (or other animal) that dies in the film, as well as being forewarned of other potentially triggering content like child abuse, rape scenes, etc. 20:00 That was a really good choice on the part of the writers and director to have Windows not know whether he was The Thing. It really helped build suspense that even the people who are infected might not realize it. 26:15 This film never got a sequel (there is an underrated prequel, though), but its storyline was continued in comic books that reveal what happens to MacReady and Childs. I haven't read them yet though, so I don't know what happens in them.

Mac won't die, one building was not destroyed. As you notice he had his blanket on him and his bottle from the start. Mac's cabin was not part of the main compound and was in the distance. you can see it intact on the first explosion in the distance. Sad thing is he can't let Childs live if Childs is the thing, shacking up with him is death for Mac. Before we see Mac he musta have went to his cabin, and grabbed the blanket and his bottle. All the full bottles were emptied for chemical explosives. The liquid in the bottle he has at the end, is the same amount in the bottle at the chess cheating game.

Your reaction is great, Aria. Personally, I am not as huge a fan of this film as most people are. The special effects are amazing, albeit disgusting. It is a very intense psychological thriller, which is how this movie shines. I suggest you check out the original "The Thing" from 1951. Nowhere nearly intense as this film, but it's quite good. As for more John Carpenter movies, I highly recommend "Christine". A very good thriller based off a Stephen King story. Always fun to watch you react to these movies, Aria. Best wishes!

Well as you have watch this movie several months ago now, I assume you have seen and read all the comments from everyone. Yes John Campbell's who goes there was the short story that spawned this and the thing from another world from 1951 which was a good movie and itself totally different but good and fun and I would recommend as well. There is the 2011 prequel, which a lot of people didn't like because it's CGI, more so than practical effects like this was. But for story line Wise It's good to see to know what happened at the Norwegian camp. There is sequels in Dark Horse Comics, though I don't know if they're actually considered Canon and all, there is also a sequel for the Xbox game system. There is a perspective of the thing itself on KZbin and some form that's called the things. It is also kind of fun. There's also a board game I believe called Outpost 31 somewhere, I still haven't gotten that myself so I can't say too much about it but I want it. One thing I believe a lot of people seem to miss is I think there was another thing running around that nobody saw. When the one-man was assimilated in the storeroom where Windows came out in told McCready and Fuchs about it. There was the mass of two other people there in that room, underneath the blanket when it moved. So that would be the mass of three different people and when they caught up with the one guy and burned him with the barrel of well, he was only the mass of one man. So what happened to the mass of the other two? This movie needs a sequel in the most urgent way possible and it should be done with the combination of practical and special CGI effects. It is my all-time favorite science-fiction story. And sorry to hear that you're alone, you certainly don't need to be. Just be careful cuz there's so many jerks in the world. Take your time.
