*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

I cried the first time I heard this one ngl Its her singing to Pete Davidson and the person she needed to ghost is Mac Miller. After his death it became even harder for her to move on from thoughts of him. She never performed this song live and it was extremely hard for her to record.

It’s so nice to see someone so open to new music and going into it without preconceptions. Many people would overlook artists like Ariana Grande, passing her off as just generic pop music, but the tragedies she has experience over the last few years have really driven her artistically and her work is has so much more substance and intent and it’s excited to see someone discover her and take her seriously. I would love to hear your thoughts on Hayley Williams’ solo album. She is the front woman of the band Paramore, whom I also think you would enjoy listening to.

Hearing the music for the first time and having my own thoughts while listening to yours is a really interesting aspect to these reactions. it's interesting how you said it sounds like the music is going backwards, it's actually a sort of distorted version on Mac Miller's song 2009, she sampled it for this song, theres a couple of videos on KZbin that show them in comparison to one another and it becomes clearer that she's sampled it. But it's a really subtle detail that's pretty beautiful.

Everyone's pretty on point with the main meaning of this one. There ARE some more uptempos on both SWEETENER & THANK U, NEXT, even though theyre overall connected albums released ~6 months apart (down to the 'upside down' thematic of the cover art) in response to the aftermath of Manchester and Mac's passing/split with Pete. A lot of people are asking for GOD IS A WOMAN (from Sweetener), If you're going to stick with these two for a bit then do the singles NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY, BREATHIN, THANK U, NEXT, 7 RINGS and BREAK UP WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND, I'M BORED. She also did a video for THE LIGHT IS COMING w/NICKI MINAJ as a promo single, that song has a bit of a weird production/structure, It was one of the PHARRELL WILLIAMS' produced tracks from Sweetener. Anyhow thanks for the reaction and guitar break!

So she was engaged to Pete Davison. They were so happy, enough to get a song on sweetener. During their engagement her ex boyfriend of many years took his own life. This crushed her and put a strain on her and Pete’s relationship, he did ask he could to be there for her, but it just didn’t work out. They are both socially good to each other, and she still gave him BDE in thank u, next music video lol

Sweetener and Thank u, Next are the most personal albums she's ever done, and probably the best in my opinion, the lyrical content once you know the things she's been through (Manchester terrorist attack, Mac Miller, Anxiety, Pete, and much more) she literally opened herself through the music in such an explicit way. This song might be one of the saddest imo, because she won't sing this song live, as it's something that she's still dealing with probably.

it is from the same era, this is about Mac Miller and Pete Davidson, Mac died shortly after she got engaged to Pete, this Is sort of just about her talking about what Pete had to go through during that time. They ended their engagement shortly after he died and Pete said in an interview that he pretty much knew they were over as soon as the news of his death came out.

Ariana Grande has a incredible music evolution, Thank U, next is a great album (to me, her best) which good, clever, sometimes fun lyrics, an excellent production n an amazing display of Ariana's voice, I really hope you check more of her. (Sadly this music really is about Mac Miller, her ex boyfriend that killed himself 😢, it was common for her to start crying when performing this song in stage).

this song would move me even if i didnt relate to it...even if I have never experienced what she's singing about...but I have. my experience was almost identical to what she sings about in this song. I felt AWFUL that my then partner had to see me cry myself to sleep every night...that they had to witness the heart wrenching pain the death of my previous partner caused me & to make it worse, my then current partner was incredible. like ari says in this song, they were so understanding even while having to watch the grief take over me. they never walked away or gave up on me. even while i cried & wailed, they held & consoled me. ANYWAYS, this song touches the pits of my soul... & the ending... oh my goodness, the ENDING. right around 7:04 & up until the end of the song. it's an absolute work of art. it's Heaven. that HAS to be what Heaven sounds like. to me, that part also almost sounds like the soundtrack to somebody crossing over into the light, from this realm, to the realm of the after life. the layered vocal harmonies, the violins, the vocal glitch right before the end... as if the soul is fading out of this world & into the next... the wind chime type sound right after it... words can't even begin to describe what that ending makes me feel.

You're right, this song is about Mac Miller, her ex. He took his own life a few months after they broke up.. She was engaged to Pete Davidson at the time. Miller's death really affected her and Davidson's relationship.

The distorted and dreamy production gets to me man :( Like she's very far away. Just an extra kick in the teeth lol Edit: I just checked and this is actually a Max Martin co-write/production, hit-making production wizard that he is. (You have definitely heard his work before -he's collaborated with both Katy and Taylor for example - and if not that then the 90s stuff). 'thank u, next' the album is basically about ~spoilers~ a rough couple of years she had and how she coped with it and moved on. I agree about the song meaning - trying to move on and grieving.
