I love the arts, classical music and the ballet but the hula is a world unto itself. There is a mystery here which I am sure that only the hula artists understand. The precise, elegant, graceful movements, and the smiles, especially the smiles, are more than learned, they seem to become a way of life, an expression of things that only this ancient form of communication can convey. Evan as an outsider I can see the homage to the culture, the family, and for those who have passed on permeates each dance (to call it a performance seems uncouth for there is far more going on here than entertainment).Mahalo for warming my heart and reminding how very special is that place called Hawaii.
