Kind reminder : please keep in mind that my « Ariel » videos are not here to be compared to the new Little Mermaid live action or, worse, to be an excuse for racist comments. We work for bringing magic and joy, so please be kind and respectful. « The Little Mermaid » (1989 version) has always been one of my favorite movies, I grew up with it and I’ve always loved the character of Ariel. She’s been an inspiration in my life and I guess she’s part of the reasons why I decided to make it my actual job. Today, as a professional mermaid, this is my way to celebrate the new movie, I love acting underwater as Ariel ! Obviously, I’m a white and red-haired person, which means that I only can embody the 1989 Ariel character, but I absolutely LOVE Halle’s version of the character and I love so much that many people can embody several versions of Ariel’s character ! 🌟 For having seen the new live action, I loved most of the movie and there is no doubt that Halle is a perfect Ariel ! She totally nailed it ! I love her so much in this role ! For those who didn’t see the movie yet, I’m sure you’ll be blown away as I’ve been by her beauty, talent and voice 💖🧜♀

Racism isn't the issue. This is about maintaining integrity and cultural respect of movies/books/shows based on their core values that is constantly spat on. That includes characters. For instance, the setting of the movie is in Denmark where people of origin is Dutch. How does someone of African origin fit? Just like the Cleopatra movie which failed also. Not to mention how could you think drastically changing the identity of someone iconic and loved be expected to not upset anyone or doubling down by accussing those same people as racist? Race no matter how you see it is an identity that must be respected, not changed. Why is it that every reboot of a classic has to have a diversity qouta that doesn't actually contribute to improving the story or characters? It's a cheap attempt to have a broader audience while in reality it isolates them by making it apparently clear it's not accuracy of the material that matters, its the agenda.

I feel like most people that aren't professional mermaids don't realize the hard work and sheer talent this is. When you're a mermaid you're blind, almost deaf and have to hold your breath for scary amounts of time. You have to have major core and leg strength to maneuver around the water like that. I remember being a kid in the 90s and wanting to reanact this song the water. I love this so much and appreciate the work put into this
@lenibeni7421 Жыл бұрын
And also the tail is incredibly heavy! Like of course in the water it doesn’t really matter but soy have to manoeuvre this thing that’s literally binding sour legs together… ever tried swimming with only one big leg? It’s something that you have to learn anew. Also the breath thing is really really difficult to master without the audience seeing it in your facial expressions!

I won't deny that there are racists mad about a poc playing Ariel; they're garbage people. However, most of us are angry at Disney because they did a poor job on this "remake"/"reimagining". They changed characters and the story so much, much of it pointless, while keeping some things exactly the same; which left some characters and their actions senseless, some scenes and plot lines empty, going nowhere and making no sense. I'm a HUGE fan of the 1989 animated Little Mermaid by Disney; I was born in 1988 and grew up watching it repeatedly. I have ZERO problems with the casting of the live-action, except that it would genuinely be better for everyone if new roles and stories were created for poc rather than race-swapping already established characters, which is lazy, disingenuous, and insulting to all. All of my issues are with Disney and the live-action writers, directors, and producers.

@@UNDEFINEDpreSENCE who’s gaslighting? Do you even hear yourself? You sound absolutely ridiculous.
@blessedtobeablessing333 Жыл бұрын
@@UNDEFINEDpreSENCE Well said!! If the person playing Ariel was white with red hair, there wouldn’t be this much hate surrounding this movie. This comment section is living proof of that. People see that Ariel is black and automatically try to look for tiny things wrong with the movie to justify them not liking it. And she says “most of them” are just mad about the overall movie, but half of Halle’s comments are saying things like “you will never be the white ariel” or “not my ariel” majority of the haters are racists. While some people in this comment section are not racist, they are contributing to the blatant racism and hate being thrown towards this film.
@Jessicaddy Жыл бұрын
@@xNarttu 💯 I am amazed by how stupid people are acting over this. This comment was LITERALLY about hair color, and people are down here screaming about racism. Halle Bailey was amazing, especially considering what she was given by Disney to work with. It almost seems as if some people WANT others to be racist just so they have something to complain about. It’s exhausting. Like… Just enjoy the film ffs 🩷🧜🏽♀️
What touched me in that video was that I could literally understand why she was so lonely, and I finally understood why she wanted to go out of the sea as much as giving her voice to the octopus witch. Compared to the human world she had to secretly look at, the world of the water under the sea felt extremely limited to what she could feel and experience.

@@3li.mp339 Yeah we are saying this totally not because of the shitty feminism and blackwashing Disney has forced onto their recent live actions that I thought were supposed to be for KIDS. Because we all know that a bunch of 5-8yos are really going to really love it when you’re miserably trying to tell them “you don’t need a man, men are weak, you slay girl 🥱💅” in the shittiest way possible; by forcing it onto a character who was nowhere near being this way. As we can see, they clearly don’t like the message and they shouldn’t. We already have strong female characters out there who did prove they don’t need a prince, yet still loved. Mulan, Moana, Merida, Tiana…etc. They were symbols of strong Disney women and yet their “feminism” was actually part of the story and portrayed in an inspiring way. Ariel was never once interpreted as a feminist. And the way they did it in the live movie is the most horrible arrogant shit I’ve ever go seen. It’s not up to you to decide if we should like this more than the movie or not. Let’s see you come back to us and tell us to grow up when your Disney goes bankrupt soon.
