I do love this performance. I’m not crazy about the changes made for the stage version. I personally love the movie version of Ursula. I guess a meatier story was needed to put TLM on stage, but for me the movie was enough of a story. I really enjoy this actress as Ursula though. She really did kill it. I don’t understand really belting out “pathetic” at the beginning of the song. Isn’t that supposed to be more of an aside to Flotsam and Jetsam? Ursula sings it kind of under her breath in the film. It’s not really for Ariel to hear. It kind of undercuts the the line itself to really emphasize it so much, IMO. The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and my favorite childhood movie, so if I saw this in its entirety I’d probably spend days picking it apart LOL. It really was fun to watch. I love these 2 ladies. Ursula was incredible! Definitely no Pat Carroll, but she did a really great job. The best live action Ursula I’ve seen. I enjoyed Ariel too.
