After running in my rebuilt engine for 2500 miles on Winter oil, it's now time to change to a drop of low detergent SAE 50 Monograde oil for the Summer season. A lot of classic vehicle owners confuse "Straight" oil with "Monograde", but if you do manage to find oil with no additives, save it for oiling your gate hinges and stopping your tools from going rusty. Never put it in an engine unless it is designed for engines with a Total Loss oil system, it will froth up and cavitate. Monograde on the other hand, is formulated for use in engines and has among other things, anti wear additives such as zinc and usually low detergent levels which are essential. After cleaning out the strainers in the sump and the tank, I gave the tank a swill out to remove any sludge that has settled over the past few months. I was very pleased to find no bits of metal in the sump strainer meaning nothing untoward had occurred during running in. After refitting the parts and refilling the oil tank, I went for a short ride to make sure everything was still oil tight.

A nice "how to" video, do you clean the flywheel purifier tube often and how would you tackle this? Is the speed recorder accurate as it looked like you were going round a roundabout at 50mph!

Thank you. Yes the purifier was fitted 2500 miles ago and wont need examining until the next oil change. It can be accessed from below the engine easier if the bike is leaned against a wall. The telemetry overlay is from my gopro, it freezes from time to time. I dont think I went over 70mph on the Dual carragway, but It gets better every ride after a complete rebuild and it will let me know when it wants to be opened up a bit more. I fitted a larger engine sprocket and smaller clutch sprocket to get it revving lower at backlane speeds.

I should add that I cleaned out an old purifier in another video to show how it looks. This is how they look after many years without attention. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYjafJirfsapoq8

Great and thanks for pointing out the other video. I will need to perk up my NH as it does not go anything like as well as yours.
