// Watch my latest video - Ticket - a short film about body shaming: • Ticket - A Short Film ...

Katie, like most of the kids, has been receiving the idea of a couple suppose to be composed of a male and a female. However, as Katie grows up, she finds out that she does not fit the social norms. To fit into the “society”, Katie hires a boy to pretend to be her boyfriend.

A film by - Ariel Kuo
Starring - Jordan Lewis, Holly Towne, Isabella De Armas, Kinsley Spencer, Mariel Molino, Spencer McEvilly
Special thanks to - Ahmet Kasapoglu, Merve Tekin, Mehmet Cerciogl

"BE YOU".

Didn't know these would become the focuses of the film:
* The mom is pregnant in late 1997 and gives birth to the baby in mid-1998. The baby is about 10 months in 1999.
* The actor of the boyfriend is about 22, I believe. He is not old at all.

Being born in 1958, and figuring out that I liked boys, the way I was supposed to like girls, in 1963, I learned how I had to pretend at a very early age. Yeah, I was only five years old when I knew. I also already knew my feelings were unacceptable. So... I pretended to be something that I was incapable of being for more than fifty years. I pretended for so long that I never really learned how to be me. All I knew, was how to pretend. Nobody should ever have to feel like they have to pretend like that. Most people like me feel they must pretend for at least several years in order to survive. It just hurts thinking you must always pretend. This is a good short film. Hope it helps a lot of young people.

The main thing important to me now, is trying to help make it so the kids of the future can live in a world where they don't have to pretend. If you ever find out that there are any LGBTQ youth in your life that are important to you, let them know that they are loved just as they are, and they do not have to change who they are, and they don't have to pretend, at least around you.

Her mom was visibly pregnant in 1998, so she was probably born in 1998 or 1999, so in 2019 she was probably in her early 20s. She wasn’t in high school, she was probably in college and bringing her “boyfriend” home to meet the parents. Which makes even less sense, because AP classes are taken in high school, not college. Also why didn’t she and the fake boyfriend go over some basic details before, like how they’d say they met? And why didn’t her parents ask her sooner? Most parents would ask “so how did you meet him?” as soon as she said she had a boyfriend. There’s a chance I’m overanalyzing.

Talk to her. Tell it is very hard to tell her how you feel because you are scared how she may react. She may overeact...it may come as a shock to your parents. It doesn't mean she does care or love you, it just means that she was unprepared for such news and needs time to process it. But when it comes right down to it most parents just want their kids to happy, healthy and productive adults. Trust me, nobody else in the world wants you to happy more than your parents. Nobody. Despite what you may read on forums and comments. They have spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars. What might seem like closed mindedness and anger is poorly expressed concern for you. And whether you believe it or not, experience gives older people more knowledge about things...it's just the way it is. You will know more things at 50 than 15 years old, too.
@newrunner91
@newrunner91 3 жыл бұрын
@@hiimpeyton671 Why would you write that when you know very little about her or her parents? Most parents would throw themselves in front of a car to save their child. Maybe her mother will be shocked by the news and need some time to process but advising her to cut her family out of her life is reckless. They are the people who cared for her when she was a helpless infant, spent sleepless nights when she was feverish and sick, read bedtime stories, paid for lessons and college (if old enough).

@@shayne-1880 for the past five years I’ve actually seen way more LGBT commercials characters on tv and movies and even shows on streaming services. To say they don’t have enough representation is a bit of an overstatement. Also what’s wrong with living a normal or traditional life, because it seems like in ads like this you can’t promote one lifestyle without demonizing the other…and the other actually continues the existence of the human race.

@@alexvineyard3045 The fact that over 90% of commercials feature “traditional” heterosexual couples is proof that they are in no ways being demonized. And it’s good that there are more LGBTQ+ characters in commercials, but they are still relatively uncommon (and especially rare outside of North America and parts of Western Europe), and certainly it is rare to see trans and non-binary commercial characters

@@shayne-1880 I never said they weren’t the majority. I was addressing the comment someone made earlier about straightness being forced. My question is how do you force natural behavior,if we’re talking stereotypes or gender norms that’s a completely different topic than being attracted to the same or opposite sex. Also to agree with your statement it is way easier for someone to be gay in North America or Europe than say in a place like Russia or Iran but you’ll also notice those countries hold to a different set of values than west.

Same, there was so much pink in the beginning I thought the child was going to be a trans guy But then there were straight stories so I was like "nope, she's gay" And the thing with the fake boyfriend indicated more that she might be gay, but it could also mean he's a straight trans man and doesn't want to be perceived as a lesbian But I was leaning more toward lesbian But then comes the mirror scene where the character looks at themselves "with short hair", so by the end I thought he was a trans guy The deciding factor was that next to the "be you" picture there were 2 princess dolls next to each other, she got rid of the prince So she's definitely gay :) Great story!

I think people underestimate how much heteronormia can affect a child. I'm 14 right now, and when I was younger I was always sure I was totally, completely straight. I don't think I even knew what being gay was until I was eight, when my sibling came out as bi and non binary. I understood and I started to pay more attention to peoples lifestyles. I thought about liking girls, and then kissing girls, and I came to the conclusion at around 12 that I was probably pansexual. I was always invalidating myself though. "of course people think girls are pretty, thats just the way they are." or "I don't get that anxious and embarrassed feeling when I'm around girls like I do with boys." As I started to get older though, I realized something. That anxious and embarrassed feeling wasn't attraction or crushing; it was the need to feel validated by boys approval. Growing up, all I was fed by the media was that success, strength and the key to a good life came with a boyfriend, and It's not like my family or friends were homophobic or anything, but I subconsciously based my worth on how many boys liked me. I wanted people to come to my wedding and become jealous on how amazing I was to have such a handsome husband, and I wanted to tell everyone about my life, husband included, because thats what's most important isn't it? I need a Disney prince to be a princess. When I came to the conclusion that I was lesbian, I cried. I was so angry at myself for feeling this way towards myself, but I had always believed I'd date a couple girls and then marry a man and be happy for the rest of my life. Now, I would have to deal with being afraid to bring her up in conversations with strangers, or fiddle with my wedding ring whenever I heard a homophobic comment. It's hard letting go of a form of validation, but I've got a much better mindset now, and am now dealing with the fact I may be nonbinary. This is a little tougher as my mom and dad refuse to call my sibling by their proper pronouns, and I've heard about all of the struggles first hand from them, but It just feels so weird being called she. I think we really need to have more queer relationships in our media because It could really help out a kid like me.

Emily Ruben exactly! I am bisexual and didn’t even know that being gay was a thing until five years ago. My childhood best friend had two mothers. I grew up with a friend with lesbian mums and I didn’t even know because my parents never sat me down and explained that they love each other like my mum and dad loved each other. I thought they were co raising the child as the biological mum and her aunt. Because my parents said only one was her biological mother. For about a year I was so unsure of being bisexual because I was terrified of being straight but using the label to get attention

When I was growing up people only used the word gay or its synonyms as a pejorative, slur, or insult. I didn't even know what the word actually meant until I was in my teens, and was generally very ignorant about anything LGBT related until I was well into my 20s. I didn't know bisexuality was a thing, and this caused me great difficulty in figuring myself out as a person. I always had an excuse for my attraction to other boys. "I can't be gay, I'm attracted to girls!" Or "it's just curiosity" or "plenty of other straight guys must experiment with gay porn and just not talk about it". After educating myself, doing a lot of deep personal reflection, and a lot of working up the nerve to do it I came out as bi about a year ago. It's incredible to me how much more accepting and educated people are becoming over time and how quickly it's happening. I know there's still a lot more work to be done, but the difference between now and 30 years ago is night and day. My heart goes out to all of you who go through the hell of having a homophobic family or live in a predominantly homophobic place. Hold onto the hope that things will continue to improve. Stay strong friends!

I had come out as bi at 14, that didn't go so well, but now my parents have accepted my LGBTQ identity. I'm an omni Romantic, asexual, trans woman. I hope next year for my HRT and T blockers. People treat lgbtq like a phase or an illness. it's true that your sexual orientation can change over time, but the truth is that you can be lgbtq from the moment that you start to develop love. I think the most common time for you to feel lgbtq the most, is around puberty. You can develop crushes very early, but you usually start getting more sexual feelings around puberty. I identify as a gynosexual, and I discovered my sexuality around that time. I also know a lot of people who did too. But some sexualities don't have to be sexual, like biromantic, or aromantic. Those develop earlier on. And some sexualities have always been there, they just grow stronger as you grow up. (Trans, etc.) My point is, people develop sexual/non-sexual feelings early in their lives, and it's important that lgbtq is seen as normal, especially for children. When I was in middle school I discovered my sexual orientation. I struggled for months asking myself why I was feeling these feelings. It would have saved me a lot of wondering and thinking and questioning it I had known all this information. I'm sorry if you don't understand the purpose of what I'm saying, because this was kind of a rant. My point is, sexyality should be accepted any point in time, even in childhood. Goodbye.

@@keck4022 Well, lesbian/straight suppose that you have a gender and that you like someone who has a gender (the same as yours or the opposite). That's why lesbian/straight doesn't make really sense if one of the people has no (fixed) gender. But yes it's difficult to find a good terminology... for example, you can like female-presenting people, with exceptions (for example, not wanting to date a trans woman).

I live in Russia and this country known as a very unfriendly to LGBTQ+. My mom and grandmom is very homophobical people and that's normal for them to tell me the things like "when you'll have a child..." or something. But I... Uhh I dont't think I'll never have a child if u got me. And I don't think they could react good to this information. This situation is really hard for me and for A LOT of people like me, not only the Russian ones. Thank you for this film, it is very... Heplful.

all my life I knew that I was attracted to girls, I thought it was something wrong, ahahaha now it’s a little strange story, I thought that same-sex relationships do not exist at all, so in a game where many people dated and got married, I played for a boy to find a girl (I never wanted this with boys) and i married her, I didn’t think it mattered, but now I understand that this is also one of the stages of self-awareness(sorry if I have mistakes, i'm not native English speaker)

Growing up, I knew what the LGBTQ+ community was. I only knew Gay, Lesbian, and Bi. I had a Gay Grand Uncle that I met as a kid and I looked up to him a lot. A few years pass and I'm thinking about myself. Who do I like? Who am I? *What* am I? I was so confused about myself and was thinking about it. In the 5th grade, I started to experiment with labels and I started to think I was Asexual. I wasn't so sure, but I kept changing. I kept thinking "Wow. Women are cute, but so are men. I'm so confused. I'm not Gay, am I?" I didn't really know what to do. I was looking more into the LGBTQ+ community and thought I was Lesbian. I wasn't so sure about that label, so I kept looking. I finally found something that I'm comfortable with. It was Pansexual. I was so happy that I found a label that I was comfortable with. I wanted to find my gender, so I experiment with Genderfluid. By the 8th grade, I wasn't so sure about my gender and really didn't feel comfortable with my chest. I was talking to my siblings about it and they gave me something that I could consider. I might have been Non-binary. At the time, I knew what Non-binary was, but I didn't know if it was for me. I've been trying it out and I feel comfortable with that label. And now I am about to finish 8th grade and go into 9th grade. I am a proud Non-binary Pansexual with a loving girlfriend who is also Pan lol. I'm glad I found label for myself ☺️.

its just stupid how people think the genders are only male and female. everyone should feel happy and comfortable with there gender role. it shouldn't be up to a parent, friend (etc) to chose. its always up to you and if you feel uncomfortable with your current gender never feel scared to change it ❤️

I remember I liked a boy in my class when I was in Pre-K, but my mom joked about me getting a girlfriend, not a boyfriend when I’m older. I thought something was wrong with me. I didn’t get a phone until I was around 11 and I eventually discovered I identified as gay and it was completely normal. I now identify as gay and biromantic online but I’m still in the closet with those who I know. A few years have passed since I discovered all of this and I plan to come out when I leave for college, so my parents can’t do anything about it since they are a bit homophobic.

Not a lot of people get this but I'm transgender ( female to male ) and my parents have never allowed me to wear clothes or do things of the opposite sex. This is so relatable I grew up always being told oh when you marry a boy, oh when you have kids... that combines with my family being strict christians I always grew up pretending to have crushes on boys and always wondering why I was broken? How come every other girl my age actually liked boys and I didn't what was wrong with me? Well I ended up meeting a friend who left for Germany for two years and we actually ended up talking again after she got back this was a year ago and I am now 15 and I started catching odd feelings I've never felt before for her, love. It was so weird and I put it off as oh we are just good friends until I realized no this is something completely different. It grew and grew until eventually I figured out about the lGBTQ+ community. It all clicked and I started sobbing as I realized I wasn't broken just different. I ended up confessing my feelings for her at a theme park on a sky tram and she told me she was pan and felt the same way. I was so happy but when I finally gained enough courage to tell my parents they have been jerks to me for months now telling me what a disgrace I am and that people are influencing me to feel this way its not real. Watching this just made me relate to it because I felt for years that I had to pretend I was someone different. This is long and I just wanted to get the message out there to just be who you are if you are a person who feels this way embrace it and don't worry about what others think because who gives a shit? We're all human and if others cannot except it they don't deserve you because the true you is the best you you can be and don't take that horridness from others just be who you want because it made me a whole lot happier and now me and that girl are dating all because I accepted my feelings. Stop pretending and start being. Sorry its so long 😅

sourkiwichair marceline, well good luck coming out to your dad! Parents should really not go through their kids phones/stuff. They know me and they know I’m obviously not doing drugs, or really any crimes. That should be enough. They need to understand I have my secrets, and they have theirs. I know a few of theirs because they really are bad at hiding things, and I wish I didn’t. I am constantly cleaning my pictures, and clearing my texts because I know my dad goes through my phone. I wish I didn’t have to though because it would be nice to have those in a few years, but what am I going to do. *shrugs*
