Seoul has been named the host of the Catholic Church's next World Youth Day in 2027.
For more, we're joined by Reverend Kim Se-jin.

Good afternoon, Soa.
1. Soa, what is World Youth Day? Tell us what this event is all about.
2. Rev., You were in Lisbon earlier this month for World Youth Day 2023.
What was the atmosphere like there when the Pope named Seoul as the next host? Surprised? Excited?
3. Soa, this year's event took place in Lisbon.
What cities have staged the event in the past? And how big were they in terms of scale and number of participants?
4. Rev., Why do you think Seoul was designated as the next host?
How significant is it that the 2027 edition will take place here in this city?
5. Soa, walk us through the process how Seoul was chosen as the next host?
What does it take to become the host of the event?
6. Rev., what efforts has the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul made in order to be named as the host in 2027?
7. Soa, let's talk about the festivities.
What kind of events and activities will there be during the festival?
What can participants look forward to?
8. Rev., I heard the six-day event in Lisbon was full of events and activities.
Any particular moments or events in Lisbon that stood out for you? Any memorable scenes?
9. Soa, then how is the World Youth Day event more than just a religious gathering?
What societal and cultural influence does this World Youth Day event carry globally?
10. Rev., the Pope himself is also set to visit the South Korean capital too.
It would be his second visit to the country after he came in 2014.
In what way is his visit meaningful?
What message did the Pope give in Lisbon this time?
What message should we expect from him in Seoul?
11. Soa, it's not just the Pope.
We're expecting up to a million people to attend the event, with around 200,000 to 300,000 of them from abroad.
How much of an economic impact can we expect in 2027?
12. Rev., in what way do you think Seoul needs to be cautious and extra mindful with regard to hosting the event in 2027?
What challenges are ahead?
13. Soa, the 2027 edition will take place around this time of the year, when the weather is going to be just as hot as this year or even warmer.
How should the government prepare for the event considering what we went through with the Scout Jamboree this year?
14. Rev., any word of advice or comment you'd like to give with the 2027 event in mind?

As a catholic I’m thrilled that South Korea have been picked to host the World Youth Day. With the growing convert to the Catholic faith in Korea may it continue to grow and be blessed . To God Be The Glory🙏

Korea is Blessed....happy and delighted that South Korea will be hosting WYD and hopefully Koreans will be like the Evangelist in Asia as the Philippines does in many Asian countries as previous Popes before have said and now including Pope Francis.

This is right and meaningful time! South Korean youth has one the highest cases of depression and mental health deviances. So I think this event would be life changing for the Koreans. This might also bring a "boisterous" miracle to this peninsula. You won't know, Korean reunification might be just around the corner. 😅
