The man spoke the truth of what happened, sadly propagandists masquerading as activists emasculate the truth and manipulate public opinions. The truth of that story is well known in Ogoni land. Despite the cascade of seeming peace in Ogoni land promoted by liars, Ogoni is acrimoniously divided between these two groups of Ogoni 4 and Ogoni 9. As the saying goes, 'conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it'; until those responsible for the death of the Ogoni 4 own up to their dastardly fratricidal abomination, Ogoni land will never heal for generations to come. It is very sad watching someone come to the national television to sprew lies about an obvious truth about his own people without a prick of conscience of the feelings of the relatives of the murdered, simply because they want to make money from the blood of the dead.

I remember I was in my freshmen in the Uni when this happened. I was a naive activist that supported Saro Wiwa. I remembered how we were discussing the execution in our living room when my father walked in. He listened to us and sat us down and explained the evil Wiwa perpetuated against the Igbos. Why Sam Imbakwe was called a crying governor, won the governorship because of his role in challenging Wiwa's evil against the Igbos. After his historical revelation, I had a different perspective of Ken Saro Wiwa
@christopheradodo4718Ай бұрын
The question is, why was the junta so in haste or quick to execute Ken Saro-Wiwa in the most brutal manner possible. Was it because the junta saw him as a threat to his government? Because it was Ken Saro-Wiwa who first highlighted the injustice done to his community by the Shell Company and the government to the world. Also, could it be that your father and the rest were in support of the junta? Because the circumstances surrounding your father’s death gave the junta an alibi to quickly silence Ken Sao-Wiwa once and for all. Moreover, was Ken Saro-Wiwa in the scene of the massacre? Also, was there any evidence that he ordered the killings of those individuals, and including your father? Also, could it be that the evidence was merely based on hearsay? Secondly, why did the junta use military tribunal to prosecute him and sentenced him to death when he was not a military officer? Was there no judicial system in the country to prosecute him? These are salient questions that deserve answers. Don’t misunderstand me I don’t support barbarism or anything lawlessness. Therefore, may their souls rest in peace. But I am simply curious as to the true evidence that warranted the junta to kill Ken Saro-Wiwa in such brutal manner.
@iheanyichukwunyenke9776Ай бұрын
It's obvious you think independently. I had these questions as well. Saro wiwa fought the government for an injustice to his people. the whole world saw that that trial or whatever that was was a hoax. Today the injustice in Ogoni land has still not been really remedied but at least everyone has agreed there was injustice. It was Saro wiwa who made the people of Niger Delta wake up. At least a few of them. sadly those few are no different from the leaders they fought against. All of them just dey share and waste everything. When the militants fought the government, one would have thought they would insist on good roads, the best schools for free that would compete with any school in the world, the best hospitals, factories to employ their people but them collect money share shut up. Bettering Nigeria is an inter generational task. sadly all the generations from 1970 has failed very woefully. both the leaders and the followers.

This story has been told over and over again but most people were fixated on Ken Sarowiwa and his activism. During the formative years of MOSOP, Ken was just a public relations officer or publicity secretary of the association by virtue of his clout as an international writer to help promote the ideals of the association. Like everything human, he began to exalt himself above the leaders and elders of his people and deviated from the goals of the association. Not done, he broke away and formed the NYCOP( national youth council of Ogoni people), the militant wing of MOSOP which was the mastermind of the murder of the Ogoni 4. His trial and execution had nothing to do with his activism, but with his role in the dead of the Ogoni 4.
@MegaCeejaybeeАй бұрын
@EmiyareyJohn-qu9cr I refuse to align myself with your conclusion. I was living in Rivers State (Okrika) and my classmate, a teacher at GSS, Onne, hailed from Bodo City. Ken was killed for vicarious association. Abacha saw him as a thorn in the flesh that had to be removed. The 4 were in cahoot with the government and that was an open secret. Unfortunately the Ogoni nation lost too many brilliant people.

If Abacha was actually looking for him, he played himself into the hand of Abacha with this incident. The whole truth about this Ogoni saga has not really been told, but truth no matter how long it is suppressed will one day come to light. What actually happened was that this incident coincidentally happened during the June 12 imbroglio, and politicians were desperately seeking for any weapon to fight Abacha, hence they downplayed the murder of the Ogoni 4, and propagated the trial and execution of Ken Sarowiwa to the International community as evidence of human rights abuse and clampdown on human rights activists by Abacha and the military. The gruesome murder of the Ogoni leaders, more prominent in Rivers state at that time than Ken Sarowiwa, was .relegated to the background. I understand the pain of Suage Badey. I recall those events and it was a sad time for the Ogoni people. However, it's hard to say if Ken Saro-Wiwa clearly instigated the mob to go attack the Ogoni 4, though I know that there were squabbles and mistrust between the Ogoni elite. We know that apart from the Ogoni 9, no one from the mob that actually carried out the killing were ever arrested or convicted. Gen. Abacha saw it as an opportunity to eliminate the thorns which were KSW and his group, hence no right to appeal was granted.

What this man is saying has been repeated regularly in many newspaper stands in Port Harcourt. The truth is that Ken Saro Wiwa was heavily implicated in the murder of the Ogoni 4 (60% by my research). The unfortunate thing was that he treated the tribunal as a kangaroo court with hope that the international community will intervene, he forgot that he was an interested person. Abacha wanted him gone for a longtime and identified him as a threat to be dealt with. He simply played to the gallery. Official report is that for hours the police got the intel of the whole thing and kept quiet, orders from above. Funny thing is that after the civil war when Saro Wiwa was commissioner in Rivers State and enforcing the abandon properties act, in the house he stole, Abacha was his next door neighbor. Their children were also very close. The same fate awaits Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, incitement to commit treason, Let justice be served

BADEY IS ONE OF THE BEST POLITICIAN THAT THE OGONIS HAS EVER HAD AFTER (PAUL NAKUU BIRABI)
@davidokoye3203Ай бұрын
As if everything Abacha ever did was evil. Which is worse - Abacha or APC led govt? Was Abacha's taking over govt by force of army worse than Tinubu taking over by force of manipulated electoral process? Everyone watched d latest American elections. If compared, Nigerian elections were as bad, if not worse, than Abacha taking over govt by force of d army. Saro Wiwa was judged by a tribunal. Tribunals have always been used in Nigeria and elsewhere. It is when men are tribalistic, not righteous, that they bend d truth and speak so bad against another. Abacha did not rule Nigeria alone. Obviously other members of his gang had a say, so all of them wouldn't have concluded in unison that Saro Wiwa was guilty whether innocent or not. I read details of that trial. D govt made available its transcript to d public. Based on d transcripts, it was clear Wiwa influenced d mob to carry out d killings. It is a trite law that when you as a man of influence calls someone a vulture, and vultures must die, if your followers killed those vultures, u cannot be exonerated. D whole matter of sainting Saro Wiwa is d continued vilification of Abacha. In any case, Abacha's military govt has proved far better economically, policy-wise than Buhari's civilian govt or d present govt which is far worse than any before it, economically, and policy-wise. They continue to demonise Abacha bcos Northern Nigeria has fallen, defeated by d Yorubas which they must now serve. How things change.

The pain this man feels seems to drive him to demonize Ken. While Ken may have incited the mob, it's unlikely he intended for anyone to be lynched-that would have been a foolish move, even if he sought fame. Ken fought for an entirely just cause. Did he make mistakes? Certainly! Controlling a mob once it's incited is no easy task. Hence the murder.

Obviously, Saro committed those offences of the 4 as they were perceived to him as betrayal of there struggle 🤷🏼♂️. Big lessons for many today who has a brain to ponder! Those who just act irrationally and criminally in the name of struggle for something they will claim is fight for there right/fair course A lot of healing and reconciliation has to be done, and also, truth be told, Saro in his struggle can't be exonorated like he did nothing wrong in the course (like the killing of those 4). Many Nigerians just like to be unnecessarily emotional many times rather than be realistic. As much as Saro will be said to have been struggling for something good, his wrong must be well spelt out as well. Is he the Government? that in the name of struggle, something like that will be done. Let's call a spade a spade. How can this Man here heal from that? What a tragedy 🤦... 🇳🇬 God Bless Nigeria 🇳🇬
