I think what is happening is that the people who have been accusing Lagos of taking too much of the revenue may have come to realise that, in truth, the consumption is happening in Lagos. So if you want more money, increase consumption in your states by increasing productivity.

I don't think so. Mr Taiwo is a brilliant private sector player, and I can assure you he is frustrated with the politics being played with the brilliant job his committee did. This is what happens when u cross over to the public sector and realise how difficult it is to implement what is supposed to be of benefit to the majority because of vested interests. I believe he is better in this kind of position. With the support of a strong politician behind him, he gets to implement all his good ideas. Outside of that, politicians will frustrate such brilliant minds.

Most of these northern leaders understand the bill they just don't want certain goods to be exempt from vat collection because those good are what are mostly produced by northern states e.g food. The bills are necessary fiscal policy reforms that the country needs and will support monetary reform being made. I am from the North but I am disgusted with the attitude of the North. Our leaders act as leeches and are so short sighted. The northern population also needs education so they can wake up and chose better leaders. Given the size of the states in the north, population in those states and the solid materials in these states it's a shame we are fighting these bills when what we can gain from exploiting our natural, human and geographical resources favor us with these bills. The word "Lazy" correctly defines these states, we will rather spend months/years fighting these bills than develop and benefit from these bills. I cannot even start to explain how much this pains me, for anyone who truly wants the good of Nigeria and are still fighting these bills you need to wake up and fight again the real problems/enemies. As a Nigerian I don't want us to be left behind by the rest of the world because of short sightedness. God help this country

Now I understand the bill and as a Hausa man of the far north I am now in support of this bill if how this guy describes it is true, because that will be the catalyst needed to jumpstart the north from its slumber. We have what many nations do not have in the north, but because of lack of coordination and purposeful leadership the potentials are not being exploited. I remember when we were kids there was a song by the late Dr Mamman shata that had a chorus of “yan arewa ku bar bacci Najeriyar mu akwai dadi” it’s a wake up call to be more productive and competitive with other parts of the country. Therefore, what is needed is not consultation with the politicians but the people. I suggest to the committee should publish the controversial part for the perusal of the public, and that can be achieved within a month and that will shut everybody’s mouth.

I read about Taiwo Oladele many years ago before this appointment by PBAT. Taiwo is a very brilliant guy. He and his committee should go around Nigeria this January 2025, take questions from Nigerians and answer them, so that all the stakeholders will understand the new Tax Bill. On the surface it appears good, but let it be challenged by all, the bill updated to incorporate the suggestions from Nigerians and afterwards passed.

Abati is very hardworking sha. Only him Anchored This Day live yesterday for many hours. Nice interview. Clear as crystal. The fact is that this tax reform will reduce money from less developed states or states with high number of illiterates or semi illiterates. Food and essential items won't be taxed. But stuffs like Internet data, pharmaceutical products, online transactions etc will be taxed. And you won't compare the revenue that Southern states like lagos, rivers, anambra, edo, delta, Ogun etc will generate to Northern states like Zamfara, Borno, Adamawa. And then another tricky thing. It says the poor won't be taxed but big companies. Now if you tax big companies, they will increase their prices and the poor will buy them at exorbitant prices. Meaning the poor will still bear the brunt

Lest anyone forget, I am not one of the Emilokans and I will never be. All I know is Tax alone can transform Nigeria and all we need is to ensure we efficient tax administrations. @@a.preciousayanwale1685 pls find time to listen to all the presentations that Mr Oyedele has made. Low income earners, poor and unemployed will not be taxed, they will exempted. To everyone clamoring for restructuring, the main components of where restructuring will be actualized is these tax reforms. Restructuring starts with these tax reforms for those who care to understand. These tax reforms will set Nigeria on the path of surplus budgeting in few years from now. Most of the rich and political class have been benefiting in unclean manners and yet they are hugely evading tax. For the umpteenth time Mr Oyedele has explained this VAT bill, but some people just won’t understand because they have a mindset that refuses change . He has also confirmed the lackadaisical attitude of governors to highly important issues. The priority for most of the governors are social ceremonies rather than urgent matters of state, hence it is understandable why they ignored the reform committee until they found out that the decisions of the committee affected their revenue. Of course, the committee consulted as much as possible and more so than any committee of government that I know about. What’s more the committee is headed by an experienced and highly cerebral person. The complainants certainly can’t accuse the committee of not consulting widely enough, rather the excuse is being used as a camouflage for real and fundamental reasons that will soon be made manifest to everyone at the NASS public hearing.

This process excluded communities on ground, that is my main concern, no evidence of engaging the citizens (Sovereigns) using their local language.Very articulate explanation in English, However citizens are not carried along in their local language.I will support if the local communities are engaged in their local languages, with clear evidence. It can be done even while the bill is passing through NASS

In fact, this Mr. Ayodale has made me fall in love with Tinubu's appointment. God will continue to bless Nigeria, bless Ayodale, and bless everyone trying to make Nigeria work properly again. I understand that for a nation to strive, certain nations or outcry sensational issues have to be ignored, but we need to make out partways to escape in case of emergencies. If Tinubu's regime can work without too many extravagant expenditures on frivolous government needs, reduce corrupt practices and stop intimidating people or oppositions with the judiciary and security agents, I think we are sound to embrace and become patient with the reforms. Nevertheless, Buhari destroyed this nation with his corrupt system and support for terrorist organisations through his indirect support for some of the Fulani killer groups and soft handling of Islamic extremists who are not loyal to his worship practices.

I don't blame Northern Governors for not trusting Tinubu. If Tinubu is serious then let him carry reforms in all sectors and not just Tax reforms. Nigeria needs total reforms in most sectors. Let him do reforms in the electoral process, reform INEC and election procedures, let him reform the judiciary, the police etc. Why only focus on tax?

Bubba Galadima is not interested in the details Mr. Oyedele provides, all Buba Galadima wants to do is emphasize what the Northern elders have said. However, he pretended that he was not speaking for sectional interest when he chided Dr. Abati to refrain from using the term Northern elders. Buba Galadima also falsely claimed only Ogun and Lagos states benefitted from the Tax Reform, which Mr. Oyedele corrected with facts. Nigeria can only make progress when the nations within Nigeria are allowed to be separate and govern themselves. Bubba Galadima can pursue whatever suits their interest in the north. No need to fight about it, we need to face reality and do what will transform the individual nation-states.

AriseTV is one of the problems of Nigeria. You will never hear Abati and his crew helping this administration to explain better the policies of the administration. I say it again, all together instead of building Nigeria we are only doing what the Nigeria (North) want. Abati knows the right thing they are all just angry they are not in Power. 😊

The kwarapt state officials see the exemptions which will reduce revenue into the state coffers as a reduction to their "STATE CAKE" share which they used to enjoy. They are not looking at the exemptions as resulting in the reduction in prices of basic essentials that will ultimately alleviate the hardship of the citizens

Lagos and Rivers are free to approach the Supreme Court now. They should expunge the VAT part and let Lagos test it in court. If Lagos wins then everybody can do their own VAT law. At the end of the day if Lagos wins, that will be very chaotic for the North as they can not change anything after the supreme court judgement.

My brother they know those things. Every company will provide details of what is consumed by States and the tax will he shared according to what you consumed. It's very simple. But then the north knows that the items that will be taxed are things their people hardly consume. Food is out of taxation, transportation is out of taxation. But things like Cement, pharmaceutical products, ICT, data, etc can you compare the Internet data used by States in the south like Lagos, Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Edo to states like Zamfara, Adamawa etc This is the issue

@ray-df8bq Please, who is to be blamed for that? If something is against your faith, why do you want to benefit from it. 2. It is just a brainless excuses, the tax avenue is for states to think about Chanel of income, which is the ONLY way for any human being, state, country to finance his people, or become a success. If their governor or the entire region is lazy to think out of the zombie box, it is their problem. I remember In the 1st western region Yoruba did NOT have anything as business hub to finance the region. It was ONLY cocoa house in Ibadan that late Awolowo converted to big hub that finances the western region.

Mr. Oyedele was clear enough when he said that the basic essentials are off the tax net; food, medicine, transportation, rent etc which amounts to about 82% of the VAT currently. the remaining 18% amounts to non-essentials that could be termed luxury items which ordinarily, the common man don't need. these are the items on which VAT is being proposed for increment. that isn't catastrophic IMO.

My problem with this tax reform bills is that it is not the right time for it because price of goods and services will move up as companies tax is increased. secondly, the IT company to handle it may be linked to alpha-beta, which owned by Tinubu. Thus, i will suggest that the bill should wait till after Tinubu's regime.

This one of the disadvantages of operating a "Rent Seeking" economy that doesn't encourage regional development through self sustaining economy but sharing revenues based on land mass, population and derivation. Let the truth be told, Nigeria system isn't working and needs "a total overhaul as a matter of urgency. For instance, indigenous people don't operate Presidential system of government. They normally operate Parliamentary and constitutional Monarchy based on common language, culture and heritage. Presidential system of government is normally used where immigrants have migrated, settled and take over major affairs of their settled land. States or provinces are formed with a central government to manage few areas such as defence, immigration, social security and international affairs. States creation foisted on indigenous nationalities in Nigeria is an anomaly. Some States ate are productive and feeding those poor States who aren't productive. Come out of your denials and rework the union. Plain and simple!
