I tried this over the summer after looking for cheaper alternatives for slower speed BW film, and Fomapan 100 really surprised me. I went ahead and bought a 100ft roll of 35mm to use next summer and I'm looking forward to it! Also, Rodinal works well with this film.

It's perfect for sunny days. It was one of my principle btw stocks when I was in Europe in late May, no issues

I’ve use this film a LOT. Uniform and repeatable. I use this film on the same subjects in basically the same light when I test a 35mm before sale. The price is also nice. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

Foma/arista 100 is a go-to 100 iso film for me during the hot, bright summer months (I live in NE USA). It definitely punches above its weight for a “cheap” stock. Personally I find this film and Rodinal a match made in heaven

I’ll have to try that! When I was looking at the scans I was thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have a little more acutance so yeah I think rodinal would be nice and crisp on this film.

I like the look of fomapan 100 + rodinal too, but struggled to find a EI and time that gives both good shadow details and not blown highlights in bright daylight... I kept reducing the time, last attempt was EI 64, rodinal 1:50 6min 20°c. Overcast weather I found EI 80 8.5min rodinal 1:50 20°c to be quite OK. With XTOL and EI 100 my times are 8.5min with 1:1 and 8min with replenished stock solution (so-called XTOL-R) HC-110 (h) 1:63 EI 80 8.5min to 10min depending on the light.

@@psybard I always use a yellow filter so in actuality I'm exposing at 50 iso. I've heard people say it's fairly close to true box speed but maybe like 80 iso

I push it to 400 ASA. Works great. Probably can push it further with good results.

I bought 40 rolls of the 100 speed and 40 rolls of the 400 speed the year before last year. I really liked it for what it was. I no longer shoot it anymore since I’ve switched to Hp5 exclusively, but I still have a couple of boxes in 4x5 that I’ll shoot if I ever finish my hp5.

I think it’d be great to have in 4x5. HP5 is hard to beat though. Always gotta have some of that on hand.

I use Arista edu with perceptol stock and shoot it at 50. I call it fluffer nuffer because it is almost grainless and buttery smooth.

It's my favorite Foma out there. Kosmo Foto 100 is also Foma 100. It has a nice punch, looks good outside whatever the lighting situation. The only drawback is that the film is quite thin and get be scratched easily while you put it on the dev reel. Otherwise it's one of the best 100 iso film.

I’ve heard that so I tried to be very careful with it. The usually glossy side of the film was very matte on this film. Seems like maybe it doesn’t have the extra coating that other films have.

In 35mm Foma 100 is not as fine grained as some other 100 speed films. Nice tones but one could achieve a similar look with say HP5. In 120 where the grain is much less noticeable we may have a winner here.

Usually I like FP4 for 100 speed but this was pretty good. Looks great in 120

¿Why use Arista EDU 100 instead cheaper FOMA 100?
@TheNegative

Over here in the U.S. the cheapest film is Arista EDU. Fomapan costs a tiny bit more. I could try actual fomapan next time.
