You might remember me from the sociology requests, this is great content because I’m really interested in the relationship between him and Thomas Aquinas. It’s very good, and you have defined Aristotle’s interpretation of a “prime mover” very well. I’ve intended to make a philosophy KZbin Channel but never got round to it.

Regarding the last statement made in the video, I think the idea that the universe being totally emergent and created from the “consciousness” of God addresses that. If the prime mover is only necessarily thinking and being aware of itself, then it is aware of our existence because we exist as imagined forms in the mind of the prime mover.

Yes I would agree. To know a thing is to know its causes. Now, God is the ultimate cause of all particulars. And God knows himself perfectly. Therefore, God has most perfect knowledge of all particulars.

Thank you for this video brother. May I ask, do you know if St. Thomas Aquinas unmoved mover is this same concept, or just similar?
@Acalmujannahmalaysia4 жыл бұрын
Almost similar as Kalam Argument.

Glad you liked the video. And yes Aquinas used a very similar concept within his 5 ways, Aquinas was heavily inspired by Aristotle.

@@PhilosophyVibe I've always thought of Thomas' argument as a top-down hierarchy. Meaning the unmoved mover pushes (as in actualizes) from itself down to lesser beings (which is why infinite regress is a problem: without a first, there's no subsequent mover). Whereas Aristotle's idea seems to be a bottom-up approach based on telos.

I’m a bit confused... does Aristotle argue that the prime mover is the ultimate final cause, but not the ultimate efficient cause? It seems later Aristotelians argue the latter. Wouldn’t the light be both a final and efficient cause for moths to fly toward? And do you think this argument is sound? Lol
@billyumbraskey81352 жыл бұрын
only as sound as it holds up against its refutations. so, on with it.

Hi, Christian here, it's exactly like what I have learned and been taught God is. The only divergence is the debatable position that the "infinite" force known as prime mover/God wouldn't "know" of its creation. A pretty absurd position on its face, for 2 reasons 1 already admitting it would be indistinguishable from an INFINITE force, which would encompass all-knowingness (IT'S INFINITE) and 2 why wouldn't the attractor of the things know the things? Really taking some license with this part, to say the least! LOL

Interesting how you have to say its different than the God in the bible? Y does that God even come to your mind? In the beginning (time) God (YHWH) created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter). For in him we live and move and have our being. (Prime mover Jesus)

basically this. they are taking quite the license and straw-manning "judeo-christian" (whatever that means. Judaism and Christianity are distinct and diverse) concept of God. Atheists are fixated on this cartoonish "sky daddy" version of things and stuck on elementary theism (like the problem of evil, etc) to dwell in this space of easy takedown straw-manning. even if these particular creators aren't outwardly motivated by this, it is sort of this static meta-axiom that non-believers work from.

Nice attempt but not quite right. You, me and thee are ALL the Prime Movers Unmoved. Works like this: You and everyone are statics and none of us have any position in time or space. The only true static is the soul of which we all are. We (none of us) are in the physical universe but we are impinged on it from another quadrant which could be called "home universe." All is in motion in the physical universe but being that we are only impinged upon it we are not. The purpose of the impingement is nothing more than a game not unlike any game whether it be NFL or monopoly.

Thank you for saying that - I just wanted to ask if i'm getting this right - that the god aka Demiurgos, made up the universe and he gave all things like planets and stars their own conscioussnes -> but i think that planets and stars don't follow Demiurgos like they said in the video, but they just serve their own purpose and are headed to "home universe" as you called it, because it's the real place where they belong to (and they do that by their own free will and their own inner power)?
@davidburkholder73604 жыл бұрын
@@Misha13ify No. You created and are creating everything presently. To understand what you are doing "space" would need defined: Space is defined as Viewpoint of Dimension. The viewpoint (you) puts out dimension points to view. You are presently putting all dimension points out in front of you at the speed of light minimally. If this were not true then how do you think Siddhartha Gautama walked "through" walls? He did not really but uncreated the wall and then put it back.

Yes. Our brains give us a myopic view of the universe, but in our Being(godliness) everything has happened, or is happening all at once.

Define "our" in your sentence? And know everything has not happened but more than you can imagine has. As far as what has happened, infinity is ahead of you and it is always longer than the past.@@KingKae7
