I absolutely love this video. My real surname is pre-medieval and it means wild boar, and my family have always been oddly proud of it, thank you for confirming why lol

Arith Härger :O That's crazy talk. Your insight is great, it's well researched, the subjects are interesting, and your beard is majestic; this video will never go truly forgotten. Shame veganism is still a fad though. And thank you for the reply, it made my day :)

Lul, i just saw the dodo video with the hurt wild boar, saw your comment about boars and their story in ancients civilizations, got curious and found you again. I have always seen boars as very deep and mystic animals. Sorry if there are gramatic mistakes, did my best with this comment

Arith could you do a video on the stag as a symbol in mythology? I researched a little but would love to hear it from your perspective.

Thanks Arith for this interesting video> The symbol and gathering place of the clan to which I am a member, Clan MacLaren is Creag an Tuirc, the Boar's Rock. It is situated by the old Kirk at Balquidder in the Trossachs. Incidentally the churchyard is the site of the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor and his family. As pig's bodies resemble our own is this why we sacrificed them instead of humans?
@ArithHärger7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for always being here to support. I'm glad you told me that, pass that knownedge to your descendants because it's part of history and may be very useful in such studies. Yes that might be possible, sacrificing pigs because their insides look very much like ours and since the Celts used entrails for divinatory purposes, it was probably better to use pigs' entrails rather than humans in times of trouble and war because the Celts would need every able body in the battles to come. The bear, since prehistoric times all the way to the Iron Age, was considered to be the animal more similar to humans in physical structure and also in a spiritual way; our ancestors saw the bear as their wild brother. I suppose our ancestors had also similar feelings towards the pig, due to its composition similar to ours, interiorly anatomically speaking.

your lectures are great because they are a must. horned helmets were worn by all nations in the ancient world to resemble oxen or boars. even ahab wore a horned helmet to fulfill the verse in dueteronomy "and the horns of the bison are his horns with them shall he gore nations" and as a talisman against aram. europeans started to eat pork because boars were the foods of their gods. although food should be a matter of choice not all people vegetarinize willingly. women are sometimes forced into vegetarinism before or after marriage. thank you for your lectures meytal menkin rechovot, israel

I liked this and all of your videos. I'm vegan because veganism is an animal liberation movement which involves not eating, wearing, or using animals in any way, as well as speaking out against all forms of exploitation of animals. It is not a diet. I have yet to meet a vegan and activist who made the change because it's "cool," as you say. One becomes a true vegan, as defined by the Vegan Society many decades ago, because one has come to respect animals and to acknowledge that the fact that they are able to suffer, feel pain and attachment to offspring as we do shows that they are here with us and not for us. We understand that there was a time when hunting was necessary, but that is no longer the case for the vast majority of humans. When one considers the detrimental impact that animal ag has on the planet, it becomes clear that the animal cause is the one that is the least world-denying. I am not a typical tree hugger, but a militarily trained modern warrior now interested in animism and runic divination. I intend to consult the spirits about animal agriculture and habitat depletion, among other things, in this modern, divided, anthropocentric world.

For those of you that likes ethimology, the word "Moccus" does have a meaning in Hungarian: makkos means "the one with the acorns"/ "the one that likes acorns" and as we all know, swine/boar loves eating acorns. also in the Pannonia (Transdanubia) area of Hungary, there was a significant population of La Tene celts. Cheerio.

Question. Could you as a viking have the boar as your symbol/emblem representing war/warrior and strenght? and what did the boar mean to the vikings? ( I say viking because it's easier then sayin pre-christian scandinavians :P )

Adel Jamal Being human does not make us superior look at the hell we've unleashed on everything, nature is the one true God as for calling animals lesser beings that's actually disrespectful,because we work and communicate differently does not make them 'lesser' I dare anyone to pit their survival whits against any wildlife without all the added extras of a weapon etc. and see who comes out on top.
@Ace_of_DiscaL7 жыл бұрын
@crowsbaneful I only insinuated the fact that we are superior to beasts, whether they be wild or tamed. We were given bigger brains, thus the tools to survive, and the intelligence to respect and admire animals! You sound upset with the current Human state-of-affairs, but think about this ... would animals ever venerate themselves (or any other superior or inferior creature for that matter) through art & lore?
