Wonderful analysis. I was a devout Christian for over 25 years as I was raised in it. Over the past few years I've fallen away from it and embraced my Germanic pagan roots. Your video has really broken apart some of the belief system I used to subscribe to and it shined light on how much Christianity stole from other belief systems.

the term devil, comes from the Romani gypsie sungod Devel, who was the ruler of everything material. while the moongod Alako ruled all spiritual. the romani gypsie equivalent of the ruler of the underworld was called beng, or bengalo. and my theory is that becourse of devel was the highgod of the gypsies, and they are known as using different kinds of divinations, like tarot, forseeing and so on, the christians interpriated that as witchcraft and sorcery, and also belived them to to necromancy, so they got ostrociced by every sociaty they came to and the devel, became the devil in abrahamitian theology
@annalisalundberg45614 жыл бұрын
This is a good theory...I used to think (another theory, since I'm not a linguistic) that"devil" came from indian "deva" (feminine "devi") meaning god or goddess. Since they could not allow any other god than their own, it was only logical that the other gods would become "evil"...right?
@marcusfridh84894 жыл бұрын

@@marcusfridh8489 Yes, I do remember that. I remembered also that the word devil comes from latin diaboulos, coming out from greek diaballein, cannot write that in greek, meaning to divide, to separate...so probably our theories might have a hint of interest but might not be the most precise...

In Job, the Accuser isn’t so much accusing Job of unfaithfulness, but is instead accusing the God of foolishness. Satan does not uncover evil in the hearts of men; he uncovers evil in the heart of God. He uncovers God’s doubt and jealousy. At the end of Job, because he wisely covers his mouth and does not speak when confronted by the god’s Shadow, it is not Job but God who repents. A god is a representation of the sacred, and to expose a god’s shadow is sacrilege. When Loki accuses Odin of using women’s magic, he is doing more than making jest. He is exposing Odin’s chthonic nature-his shadow side. This may or may not be something derived from Christian sources as Job predates Christianity, and probably Judaism as we know it, by thousands of years. It probably has pagan roots from Babylon and Akkadia with a scribal gloss to monotheism. And, the idea that light gods have a dark side is specifically pagan in viewpoint.

Also, how can Satan be a trusted adviser in Job - a later book - when he supposedly was cast down in Genesis - an earlier book. Methinks God's book could have used a good editor to help with story arc. And if Satan no longer obeys God, why should Satan accept anyone into his underworld realm just because God tells him to?

While watching your presentation, Two thoughts came into my mind. Addressing fear. In the movie Blade Runner, Roy Batty made a comment to Deckard, which goes like this. "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave. How true this statement truly is. Also in the Christian Bible we have this. "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to {the prince of the power of the air}, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. The Christians I have known, in the Churchs I attended, years ago, really emphasize Pauls teachings. The Seventh Day Adventist Churchs I attended years ago, were teaching that Jesus Christ would herald from the Orion Nebula on his way back to earth, to set up his Kingdom on earth, in the 21st chapter of The Book of Revelation, the New Jerusalem. I studied my way out of Adventism, and Christianity eventually, finally realizing what these religious underpinning in the Christian faith was truly about. The dramatic prose attached to these verses in the Christian scripture, truly mark a time of apocalyptic sensationalism. This world we live in really has it's dynamics it would seem. Respectfully yours Expanding Knowledge.

Oh my word, is that Mr. Thorstein on a Warlock? lol...Wait is that an ESP version of it? Probably a nicer one than a B.C Rich! I wrote a piece the other day with a very congruous sentiment. I posted an article about a supposed 1,200 yr old temple being excavated in Norway. Exciting! My christian acquaintance replied; "Their prayers went straight to the Devil"...I was fuming at that empty-headed, nonsensical, but tried and tested derision used by christians, to label everything that preceded ( and indeed continued to flourish outside the urban/"civilized" panorama) their perverted world as "devil worship" and immediately began to write a response...Cheers so much for this video my friend!
@ArithHärger4 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, this is an LTD, this is my second (and last) guitar, bought 11 years ago to replace my actual Warlock B.C.Rich which was my first guitar. This one isn't better actually, but back then I needed a replacement asap. I think I understand why that person was quick to say "Their prayers went straight to the Devil". As I've pointed out in the video "Common Misconceptions in Old Norse Religion" for many centuries until quite recently it was believed that the pre-Christan Nordic peoples did not have temples. This idea was actually brought up by the church to reinforce the belief that heathens were uneducated and worshipped in the open, in the "heaths", the wild places of the land away from the "civilized word". So the fact that temples are discovered completely dismisses the Church's idea of heathens being uneducated savages which makes the worshipping of their gods something "official" and as plausible as any other religious conceptions.

@@ArithHärger That is definitely a twist that probably had my colleague in a greater fit of frustration than I lol...Albeit coming from a much narrower mindset, so perhaps not comparable, but satisfying in an odd way ;)....p.s, I think it's very kind of you to lend your guitar to Mr. Thorstein.

Thank you for sharing, the witches Devil is a particular favorite of mine. I am curious though, when, where and how did Cernunnos and Pan get turned into “Auld Hornie” and such?? Where are the first instances of the devil being recognized as a horned, beastly figure? I feel ignorant citing Cernunnos and Pan as the originators of his horns and hoofs when I have only ever heard “this is where this came from,” without proof.

I could never reconcile the idea that God, supposedly the omniscient being that created the universe, could create the universe and not know that the devil was going to tempt Eve. Or that this omnipresent God had to enter the garden and look for Adam & Eve. And then there's the idea that this omnipotent being would create us, allow us to be infected by evil he had to have also created, and then blame us and eject us for being weak. It doesn't sound very omni-anything.
