You really need to put some booties on your dog. It really protects them and makes sense all at the same time. Could you imagine walking around in the desert with only your socks on? ouch

I hunt Gambles every year in Arizona. They can make a fool out of even the best shooters in a heartbeat. So much fun to match whits them though. I don't hunt them with a dog, because I don't have one. If I can get 2 or 3 in a morning I claim victory! The limit is 15. Without a dog, that ain't going to happen. Great video!

A quail for about 6 miles of hiking is pretty good without a dog. Running little buggers.

Looks like Wade took you to Freeman Rd. Most AZ upland guys will never take a stranger to their honey holes. Cholla may hold birds, but it makes for lousy dog country. Desert hunters, birds and dogs are a breed apart and when it's warm (which is most of the time) and the birds would rather run than hold, a desert dog can work a scent trail for miles if it has to. We also let our dogs break on the shot to get under the birds otherwise you'll lose a lot of cripples. It's a fast hunt and that high society steady to wing and shot business won't get you anywhere out here. Most out of state hunters on Mearns are caught flat footed at first and don't even get a shot off cause they aren't prepared for such a powerful flush, especially if they're used to Bobwhite. So come and hunt our desert quail, have fun, watch for snakes and please pick up your shells!

You ain't going to shoot a limit! Trust me. 15 birds? It reminds me of the Robin Williams bit on golf. "And then they put a flag at the hole, just to give you hope." If I get a couple in a morning I'm claiming victory! I consider myself a pretty good shotgun shooter. 22-23 almost every time I step on the trap range. These little dudes will make a complete fool out of the best shooters in so many ways it is embarrassing. People will say, "Hey Man. I thought you knew how to shoot? What's up with that?" Well, you get out here and give it a try! The later in the season the harder it is to be successful on these birds. They get educated pretty darn quick! Good luck after that! In spite of it all, my favorite birds to hunt!

1. Jesus what's with all the people calling for dog booties. Seriously maybe we should start a go fund me to get cows, horses, wolves, mountain lions etc coats and shoes. SMH 2. Saguaro is pronounced sahuaro, not sagaro.
