Another great video, Jon. I was in Chicago this weekend and told my dad about your vids. He’s dialed in now and thoroughly enjoying them. Speaking of my dad, we took horses into the Superstition Mountains and camped overnight when I was in high school. It was an amazing experience in an unbelievable setting.

I had a run-in with those Gila River cows on a trip out there too. 4:30 AM wakeup call from five of them standing behind my tent and not happy I was there. I was able to scare them off initially by yelling and waving my headlamp around, but one of them came back around once the sun started coming up and "escorted" me off the premises. Fortunately I was mostly packed up and ready to go by then and was able to carry what wasn't in the pack yet. Had to go about 3/4 of a mile down the trail before it stopped following me. Finished the trip and went to the pizza place in Kearny, and one of the waitresses there said "yeah those cows out there are ornery."

The comments on FarOut in that area are entertaining. Apparently that bull likes to scare hikers a lot.

Dear Jon......Thank you so much for sharing all the beauty on this trail...I have followed your channel since your 2021 PCT trip with your son...I was so sorry you had to get off trail....I hope you can one day return to it.. I have very much enjoyed your videos especially your times in the Sierra range...since that is my backyard to hike in. I was wondering if you would cross paths with the Wander Women out there..I have followed them as well....how nice you did meet them they are both amazing hikers. Thank you so much again for showing all this beauty to us!

Thank you! I’m seriously considering the PCT next year but just Mexico to Whitney. I want to do the whole thing but in 4ish long section hikes.

@@jonallenoutside That would be so wonderful for you to get back on it.....I hope you do...Doing it in sections I think is a great idea....if we ever do it that is how we would do it..being in our 60's it would be more realistic and hopefully doable for us...Happy hiking Jon and thank you

I just watched the video that the AZT posted about installing the rain catcher....looks amazing. Wish it was there when we last passed through a couple months ago.

I'm interested to see if it will hold water all year. There doesn't seem to be enough rain out there to keep it full year-round, but I guess I should watch the video and learn more.

I love how you flavor-profiled the water. 😂

Glad you liked that part. Nearly all of the water out there was amazing and even the Gila River wasn't terrible. Way better than I expected, although the high snow year helped a lot.

Great video, esp. the dark foreshadowing at the end when you mention how much food people are going to carry. I should have known better but you live and learn.

Lol! I thought about putting a voiceover in that section to state that five days would prove to be not enough. Glad you survived.

Overall not too bad though. I've had much worse back home in Wisconsin.

Really enjoying this series! Planning AZT thru next spring. Do you have any suggestions on start date in normal snow year?
