Definitely a lot of hunters everywhere in 6A. Find your pockets with no roads and structure. The hunters disregard all "road closed" and "habitat area" signs. No two track is untouched. Great bulls if you out in the time during the weekdays.

Get up there as early as you can to scout.

So looking at gohunt its 11 points for a 100 draw. I was figuring 9 before i went to Arizona so I was close.

Great work as always. Is it feasible for a solo hunter on late rifle to pack out a bull deep out of those steep canyons on the southern end of 6a before the meat goes bad? I am NR and have 8 points and am considering applying. The only thing stopping me is logistics of being alone and needing to hike it all out of there.

Yes, boned out. It’ll be plenty cold up there that time of year. If you’re solo, think about going in and out 3 or 4 times before you shoot something.

Yeah that’s good advice…the weather is in your favor it’s cold and the meat if cared for properly can hang for a couple days

Tim, I think I'm agreeing with the mentality of being able to hunt elk more often rather than wait those long periods of time for the likes of Unit 1 or 9. Point creep has me chasing that rabbit and I'm going to continue to do so it seems for a few more years. Three years ago Unit 1 was 100% draw as a resident for early archery with 10 points. The next year it was 11 points and this past year was 13 points.

Yeah, point creep is brutal right now and to me the different rifle, Huns don’t justify 18 to 20 points to draw, I’d rather just go elk hunting every 5 to 10 years, knowing that at some point I’ll have a chance at something big…

New Arizona Hunter, 32 years old, Grew up hunting from 10-25 in Minnesota before moving here and only hunting quail/dove. I am having trouble wrapping my head around the Arizona draw system. I haven't been able to find anyone who can fill me in on the rules, tricks, tips/ins & outs.. And reading on my own just confuses me further. This will be my first year applying and Id like to apply for Elk, Pronghorn, Javelina, and Deer. Id rather not have to travel back to the Midwest every year for meat lol. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I get you it’s not easy understand how it works I’ll try to give main points: Buy AZ hunting license and it will qualify you to apply for all species for a year. Big game like Bull elk, antelope and deer are hard to draw and if you apply for a tag and don’t draw you automatically get a bonus point which will help your odds next year. Cow elk is easier to draw but same rule applies with bonus points. Deer tags can be easier to draw but it’s all across the board as far as odds so you’ll have to research which tags are easier to draw. Javelina tags are 100% draw odds for several hunts. Over the counter hunts are available for elk, deer and javelina for rifle and archery definitely worth looking into.
