Thank you for watching this video about Arizona Wildcats football in the 90s. I greatly appreciate your interest in this 90s Sports Nostalgia video about the Desert Swarm defense and other seasons under Coach Tomey.
A couple of items to note or possible corrections:
During the 1992 game, Arizona Wildcats vs Miami Hurricanes, Arizona missed a 51-yard field goal as time expired, allowing top-ranked Miami to escape with an 8- 7 victory over the Wildcats. I said it was a late-second missed field goal.
I mentioned that individual statistics for college football are kind of iffy, as I wanted to say individual statistics for defensive players. I meant that I'm not sure exactly how accurate tackles and sacks were accounted for back then. In 1993, It seems that Tedy Bruschi was credited with 19 sacks and added a sack during the Fiesta Bowl. Nonetheless, Bruschi got after the QB a lot.

The Arizona Wildcats has an entertaining decade during the 1990s. From nearly defeating the #1 Miami Hurricanes in 1992, to defeating the #1 Washington Huskies in 1992 to winning the 1998 Holiday Bowl over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Furthermore, the Arizona Wildcats shut out the Miami Hurricanes in the 1993 (1994) Fiesta Bowl. The 90s was the best decade in Arizona Wildcats football history. Possibly, the Desert Swarm defense might be the greatest defense in college football history.

As a Wildcat player from the 90's, I approve of this video! One thing that doesn't get mentioned is recruiting. Tomey did a GREAT job of recruiting "Arizona Players"; players that weren't the tallest, biggest, fastest. Instead many of the players were overlooked by most teams and had an unbreakable will to win/take souls. As we got better, our recruits got "better". But that doesn't mean they fit the character of player that made Arizona great under Tomey. Winning is great but it also comes with hidden drawbacks. Recruit attitude and character and how they fight is more important to a scrappy team than how if they are a 4 or 5 star recruit. If you have something to prove, you have nothing to lose.

James Wendler, thank you so much for the comment. I really appreciate your words. It means a lot to me. I saw your comment and then I came across an article about you. Wow, you certainly persevered and that's awesome you scored a TD against SDSU. Congrats on being able to play college football and conquering the obstacles you had to get there then blocking for Trung Canidate. Furthermore, I saw in the article you went to the same high school as my mother. But I really enjoyed reading your comment, and Tomey really did a great job making Arizona intro a really good program in the '90s. Thanks for all of the extra information you wrote and take care.

I know that's right.. I was a National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) kid in Tucson back then. As accommodating as the athletic department was to us, Coach Tomey's staff always went above and beyond to make the kids from Tucson's neighborhoods feel like we belonged at U of A. You might've been run out the pool by swimming and diving, or relegated to Bear Down to play basketball when a celebrity was hooping with Simon and Bibby. But I distinctly remember being in the weight room at McKale when football players would come in, and while our camp counselors would advise that we stay out of the way, the football team never ran us out. Especially if Coach Tomey or Coach Babers was around, we were treated like any other student athlete putting in summer work. #BearDown

I like your story. That's awesome. Also, you're lucky. I grew up in Big-10 country and thus, had to watch more Big-10 games on ABC than Pac-10 games. I liked that conference more than the Big-10 in the '90s. I also liked seeing the landscapes around the stadiums in the Pac-10 and also in the WAC. Furthermore and likewise, "I just like Wildcats football at that time." Thank you so much for the comment. Enjoy the 2020 college football season.

I have been a fan since 94. I have been a Notre Dame fan since 88 since my Dad is an alum and he introduced me to them that same year they won it all. We were getting ready to go to the Cotton Bowl for a rematch against Texas A&M. We watched the Arizona Miami Fiesta Bowl and I fell in love with them. That same year, I followed their basketball team and fell in love as well. I graduated from Arizona in 05 with a CIS degree. I'll always be a Notre Dame fan, but Arizona, I loved how I went from fan to alum first due to sports, then a good education after

Awesome comment. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you so much greyfox37. I remember that 24-21 Cotton Bowl. I hope within the next 6 months, (I wish I had better time management) I have an idea to do a video about the Rocket. The first ND player I remember vividly. That's cool how you became an Arizona alum. Thanks again. I hope all is well. I really appreciate you watching the video, I really don't like to try to promote my videos as just one view from anyone means a lot to me, but I hope you can check out my video coming in the future about the Rocket (I am going to talk about him in a highly positive manner but I don't to reveal how I'm going to do it). Thanks again.

It was Ana amazing group they had in the early 1990’s. Still to this day, no defense has ever held their opponents to less than a yard rushing per game. Impressive. They were a QB shy of possibly, 2 national championships!

College is weird in that the team with the better conference record not overall record win the conference. Ucla was 8-3 (6-2) an Arizona was 9-2 (6-2) in 93. As were the nfl you could be 0-6 in division games and beat out a team thats 6-0 in division games for the division title so long as you have a better overall record!

92 Miami is the luckiest team in football history. Won 3 straight games on missed FG's vs Arizona, FSU, Penn st. Then beat Syracuse by stopping them at the 2 yard line on the last play . Then got demolished by a bama team who was winning games by single digits the entire season! Next to 90 Colorado they were probably the sorriest team who played for a national championship in the 90s? 97 Michigan a close third..

Thank you so much for your comment and sorry for the late reply. I enjoyed reading your comment. Great information. Thanks for reminding me about that Syracuse game. I haven't thought about that game in a long long long time. If I get some time I might watch some of it this weekend. I was a Marvin Graves fan for Syracuse. To be honest, I had no idea about the PSU game, I have never watched that game and I thought they lost on a late INT, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't how much Hurricane Andrew affected the Canes, but they played a tough schedule and possibly had too many close games considering how talented they were. I still think that '92 team was very talented but those close games were against some good college football teams. That Alabama game was something else, George Teague... You mentioned the '97 Michigan team, and I thought there were some Ohio State teams under John Cooper that were more talented but didn't win the Nat'l Championship like the '97 Wolverines. But it's an interesting list you made with Miami, Colorado and Michigan and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you so much for watching. Have a great weekend watching college football.

@@90sSportsNostalgia I think your right. The Penn st game was a int. They lost by 3 not a missed FG. Torretta was also the worse heisman winner. He only had 19 tds and 7 ints and only won it because Marshall Faulk was a sophomore and back then only JR. And SR's won the heisman. I love your channel. And the Arizona desert swarm defense was awesome. My favorite game of them was @ Illinois in 94. They won 16-14 . And all 16 points were scored by the defense! 2 defensive tds and a sack for a safety.

Funny how Arizona fans have to look to the past, over 20 plus years ago to feel good about their football team! The Jedd Fisch hire was a huge mistake with his record so far 0 in 6 games! With talent like this they will probably go winless this season just like last year! All I can say is one thing……………….GO SUN DEVILS!!!

Funny how Scumdevil fans rally around a dead football player to feel good about their program. Dillingham is a garbage coach hire but Arizona Wildcats fans are glad you did. We’re guaranteed to pimp slap them around like we did last week 59-23. Arizona coulda easily scored 80 or 90 but chose to be smart and not risk injuring any key players for their bowl game. ASwho is a joke and your miscalculated and stupid Jedd Fisch comment aged very badly. We’re #14 in the nation at the time of this post and Tempe Normal Womens Teachers College (you remember, ASwho’s original name) aint within a 50 mile radius of the AP Poll. And, Fisch has been mentioned numerous times as candidate for Coach of the Year. Care to keep running your mouth, scummie?!🐻⬇️🏈🌵🏆 #NoPityForTheShitty
