WHAT IS AMATEUR RADIO ON THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION?
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is pleased to announce the US schools and host organizations selected for 2024 ARISS contacts. Nine of the submitted proposals during the recent proposal window have been accepted to move forward in planning to host a scheduled amateur radio contact with the crew on the ISS. The primary goal of the ARISS program is to engage young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities and raise their awareness of space communications, radio communications, space exploration, and related areas of study and career possibilities.
ARISS was created and is managed by an international working group, including several European countries, Japan, Russia, Canada, and the USA. The organization is run by volunteers from the national amateur radio organizations and the international AMSAT (Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation) organizations from each country. Its goal is to inspire students, worldwide, to pursue interests and careers in science, technology, engineering and math through amateur radio communications opportunities with the International Space Station (ISS) on-orbit crew.
