My personal favorite (for PVE) is the paracer. It is a relatively easy tame because they can be kited easily, once down not many other things attack them, they have an easy kibble that's available early and doesn't use prime jerky, and while they spawn in dangerous biomes they can be led into safer areas pretty easily usually. They are faster than the bronto, have better turn radius, and can climb over many obstacles such as rocks which helps make travel much faster and easier while not being much worse in other areas compared to the the bronto, and since they are smaller and have no long tail they are much easier to store in a base. They are able to fight off threats very well unlike the diplo and better than most other weight dinos and high level ones can hold off rexs and other large wild attackers with ease, they have a platform saddle to make minibases with manned turrets, crafting stations, and other helpful things, and this lets you bring friends on or build a ramp up to the platform to store other Dinos on top which can also be used in combination with weight reducing Dinos (if you have a beaver and a doedic on top of the paracer platform for example, you can store wood and stone on those to allow the paracer to hold very large amounts of those resources). Also they are able to cross water without drowning which many others including the bronto can't do that is very useful. For later game they also have very high tier saddles and platform saddles that can be found in underwater loot crates relatively commonly. They are useful on all 3 maps and can serve lots of roles in addition to pack animals. It's also possible (and better than others since they don't get stuck much) to make packs of paracers that can hold lots of weight between them all and defend themselves well. All the things in this vid are great choices, but the paracer is my favorite

If you want dinos with large weight, I'd go for these personally: 1. Direbear. Carries a ton compared to its tiny size. (I know its not tiny but compare it to other "pack mules" and you'll understand). 2. A Megatherium can be used as a substute to direbear because it carries a lot more but it is also much larger. 3. Parcer (Penis horse): Not as big as a bronto, but can do anything the bronto can. Weight and harvest radius are smaller but parcers are faster and use less stamina. 4. Mosa. I know you mentioned that a plesi is easier to tame and I agree. But a mosa is also very fast in water and can carry a crazy amount. 5. Quetzal. This is the ultimate weight dino. I know a lot of people hate quetzals now because of their shit movement speed, but they are still extremely useful. Just put a gathering dino on their platform and it can continue harvesting past encumbrance point because it's the quetzal that has to move, not the gathering dino :)

shoulder pets can be used kind of like backpacks. I have a dimorphodon and i just keep all my extra armor/ammunition and sometimes food on it. So if I'm at an extremely hot area I can just drop the dimorph and get my ghillie suit off of it. same thing for fur armor.

moralletops, and diplo. both are surprisingly fast, and moralletops does tons of damage, can kill an equal level carno or any other medium sized dinos.

Equus, Morellatops, Iguanadon, Dire Bear all would be better than these choices. Equus with high melee can take out a pack of allos without any issue, can carry a lot of stuff, fast as hell. Morellatops (stamina is an issue) but the speed of the camel toe is damn good and the carry weight is decent. Iguanadon literally has infinite stamina on all fours and with straight speed & weight leveled you get a decent mount. Dire Bear very fast, good carry weight, awesome offensive capabilities (can take Rex's and Alpha's without much risk).

I found a max iguanadon and just decided to tame it. It now has 2.5k health, 1300 weight, 148% movement, and it outruns a Webern flying. I use it for metal runs all the time if I don’t have an argy available

Wooly rhino is my favorite scouting mount, (i consider it a scout cuz its fast, you can use weapons on it, its fast, and it can attack while moving) you can kill a theri in one hit, and if you have max rage and you circle around like a bronto constantly attacking that would kill it in seconds

id say on official pve flyers are essential still, because there are beheomath gates blocking everywhere. It makes a lot of the bigger land dinos pointless except for eggs. Until you get an argie there is no progress. cant get your ankys or doeds home till then, as i found out to my cost.
