@@julymagnus493 you get pinned by raptors on all maps. Thus is what I recommend when you start out on ab. Spawn into either the upper or lower mushroom forest and find a good base location. I tend to make a base in the upper mushroom forest near the big lake with an island in the middle. I then tame resource creatures and try to tame a high level ravager as they are such a good creature. I then move base into the blue zone and try to get a crab as they resist radiation damage in the red zone. I then go for a rock drake, travel to the surface for really good loot and then I try to get my own reaper. And then rockwell.

Scorched earth was my first experience in ARK I really enjoyed the difficulty of the map and learning the game mechanics there.

I really liked the Center- it felt like one of the few maps, along with the Island and Aberration, that felt like the designers had really thought about single players and how they would find it. The only (major) issue I had with it was, on the xbone at least, that there are some pretty horrific lag areas around the cave sections- there were some areas where you couldn't even fly over because the lag would be so bad you'd get kicked off your bird. Really wish it would get fixed, as I enjoyed playing on it a lot other than that.

It was kinda ok to play on my own, but the people I most enjoyed playing with I had to play non dedicated with and on the Center the host tether kept on teleporting me to the bottom of the ocean whenever we crossed the ocean or to the host whenever I tried to drink...

Yeah, I agree- it's such a shame, because that cave is beautiful, but you're dead right, there are WAY too many spawn points in and around it (there's a section on one side where a stupid amount of bugs and snakes spawn just by an entrance, to the point where the lag gets so horrific they only reasonable solution is to camp just on the edge of render distance and clear them out with rocket launchers and snipers, rather than get close with a mount, because you just end up getting kicked off and eaten, or the game crashes. Serves me right for being a console peasant, I suppose 🤣

All the maps have their charm, but my favorite will always be The Center. Probably because its the first map I ever played on and I have really fond memories of discovering how to play the game and seeing all the dinos for the first time. I feel like it is a better version of The Island, with all the same biomes and dinos, but better. The dinos are higher level, there's way more resources, there are alot of interesting areas and its just so gorgeous. Really sad to hear you never played it because it is quite special, but it probably wont seem like much after having played on all the other maps, since it only has the base game biomes and dinos. Still, I recommend checking it out sometime, as it does have some really neat areas you cant get anywhere else and it also has the best Redwood biome, imo.

I disagree.. I think the biomes are kinda bland and boring.. it’s just flat with treees and a few bushes.. same terrain designs used over and over, and the snow is litterally just a big flat space that takes ages to walk across.. it just feels too repetitive for me.. I like the ruins tho

i love how they made the redwoods cooler but also more difficult in what the redwoods specializes in: making starting up/early game a hell. only the beaches of the redwoods island has normal trees, the inner forests have very few and far apart normal trees. also it's full of carnos, terror birds and the ocassional thyla to push you back into the jungle islands.

Genesis is actually one of my favorite maps but i then again i gave up on official a long time a go. I mostly just play singleplayer and a private dedicated server. I cant imagine how genesis is on pvp yet alone official. I feel like the maps just keep becoming more and more pve focused

I loved aberration it was unique and taught me how to use so many utility items because i couldn’t just fly everywhere and the rock drakes were cool and getting your first egg is so much fun. I love ragnarok too though for all the reasons you listed and more but the lightning wyverns are so OP i don’t know how they didn’t get nerfed

I think aberration and extinction are tied for my favorite. Extinction is just a really fucking good map, but aberration feels like it was made for me. It was also nice to see something wild done in this setting and the rockdrakes kick ass. awesome visuals and a solid map design. its really cool to go from, the island, a desert, to giant underground network.

That 4 hour PvP raid defense video was the first Nooblets video I ever watched. I subbed immediately.. (4ish yes ago) For me, a console pleb.... it’s Ragnarok, The Island, and recently, Crystal Isles.

1. Aberration, love the landscape, the Biomes and the tames, seriously Ravagers are still one of my favorites. 2. Extinction. The domes were cool and the tames were super neat, even though it was hit by the nerf bat hard the mana is still one of my favorite creature designs in ark. 3. Rag/Val. I consider these maps different sides of the same coin, an attempt to show a more standard but beautiful world. Personally I prefer the world more alien looking, hence Aberration being my first, but these two maps have great flow. Rag may be slightly over Val.

I'm a solo player exclusively, and concur with Rag at the top for mostly the same reasons. I'd probably go for Valguero as #2 - it looks the most like a real place and is so postcard pretty. Kinda small tho. #3 is probably a tie between Extinction and Crystal Isles. The tropical area and red forest that glows at night are both awesome places. Also agreed on Genesis being the worst. And on the snow biome being the best biome in it, though I didn't care for the blizzard area taking up so much space. I actually really liked the chill vibe of the bog biome, though it does get monotonous after awhile. My problem with Genesis was the bugs - not the insect swarms, those didn't bother me all that much . But the coding kind, like the missions sometimes glitching, or the radiation burn carrying over from lunar to other biomes, and dinos constantly clipping through the scenery. Most of the unique tames were bugged - Bloodstalker always drops you a second after picking up, the Ferox clips thru the ground after hulking out (got around that one by luring them into structures and start taming there), and the fish swarms would always permanently lose aggro half way to the turtle. And of course the dumb no-fly rule - you can tame them, but not ride them, even though they award you flyer saddles (that you then cannot grind because reasons, lol). No flyers made some sense in Aberration, but makes zero sense in Genesis. Center and SE are the only maps I haven't tried. I'll get to the Center eventually, but probably never bother with SE. I've lived in the desert for the last 30+ years. I don't need to see more of it.

1: scorched earth because of that nostalgia of back when good pvp was a thing. 2: Ragnorok for the amount of content to find on the map. 3: extinction because OBS' are so much better then regular drops, sure not as fun as the genesis missions but genesis can be a pain with teleports and the missions end up blocking so many nice building areas. I actually started in the snow on genesis and built up to stone tier almost metal before joining up with a tribe. Honestly when I end up playing it again I'm doing that because the bog is horrible to start in even compared to the cold and hostile snow.

Crystal Isles is the best starting map with passive tame Wyverns (other maps require stealing eggs from aggressive powerful parent Wyverns), lots of different types of DLC Dinos, and snow loot crates accessible on the surface in the snow biome (Elderich Isles loot crates).

Hard agree, Ragnarok is the most gorgeous map. It's a real labor of love and I've spent days in game just wandering around and exploring. The hardest part about playing there is deciding where to build. Love the Island for nostalgia, and because I know it like the back of my hand, so I can find anything. Aberration is weirdly addicting, even though the lighting is hinky and lags like crazy sometimes on console - something about how stupidly difficult it can be makes it hard to stay away from. Other than that, I've played the Center (really nice until it was broken), Scorched Earth (very cool creatures and items, but the map is tiny and most of it looks more or less the same, which is a bummer), and Valguero (haven't explored it much yet, but those chalk cliffs are gorgeous). Just got started on Extinction, and I've yet to try Crystal Isles or Genesis.

I like valguero, since it has high concentrations of resources becouse the map is so small, so farming is easy. The boss gives a good amount of element, and isn’t too hard. The ocean lacks content, like you said, but the abbaration part kind of makes up for that. One thing though, with the complete expansion mod you never want to play on another map. That’s really the dealbreaker for me.

Island has too much swamp for me, especially when you start and have to cross it to get to the other parts, they didn't think too much before adding that and redwoods, but I do have a sentiment to that map. Still, agree wholeheartedly with Ragnarok, that map has character with little mini stories and ruins, wish they kept some of the artifacts in the old places and either added or put less of them in the labirynth. Exctinction is pretty damn cool with the city and after I enabled water intake everywhere option in s+, Scorched Earth became one of my favourites as well :)

i couldn't agree more about Ragnarok. Castles are filled with creatures, rich metal nodes are hidden under normal rocks, there are crates in shipwrecks and near some obelisks to give beginners a boost etc etc.....the map is massive but absolutely filled with detail and thought. No other map is like it and imo, none are as fun to play on. I heard many comparisons to it about the new Lost Island map...but i think it's the exact opposite of Ragnarok. Lost island has almost zero interactivity or thought...it's aesthetically pleasing, but devoid of any and all attention to detail. Run through any of the castles or structures...nothing, not even a critter or crate to be seen. The redwood castle has a whole village which would be great to restore....but they have them filled and surrounded with unclearable spider webs and rubble that make it an OCD nightmare. I could go on for hours...but Lost island sucks and Ragnarok doesn't, lol.

Aberration, Genesis and The Island for me :]. Aberration being that because there are Rock Drakes, which are awesome as hell. Genesis being second cause of the space whales and X species variants of the creatures that I love. The Island being third cause its the first map i started on. However, when Genesis part 2 comes out, it will be more interesting :].

Personally here's why I think these are my top 3 favourite Ragnarok #1 for the best map layout and plentiful creatures along with O.P desert Drops. Also Screw the Labyrinth Artifacts. Aberration #2 for the beautiful underground looks and biodiversity along with the no flyers allowed making it a challenging but fun and unique map. The Island #3 as it's the classic original map with easy to get Artifacts, the classic 3 bosses and the Tek Cave ascension.

My favorite maps in order: Ragnarok, Ragnarok, and closely after Ragnarok. I don't know why, but it is the only map that is not boring after a while for me. I think it is by far the best map, and i would love to see more work and details to be done on it, for example the big underground cave system is screaming for an abberation biome.

Center on PS4 is broken. It crashes a lot and 2 player can't go in water. If you download a creature and the game crashes later, your tame will disappear. R.I.P lvl 268 wyvern

Steve I'm posting this question here because I'm not sure where to post this question but I was wondering if you could do a video on how to solo tame a tapejara I couldn't find one after your how to solo tame a Quetzal

If you have a flyer, using rare flowers is the easiest way to tame a tapejara. When you eat a rare flower most creatures around will start attacking you, even those that normally run away when you get close to them (it has no effect on quetzal though). Once you get some rare flowers, all you need to do is finding a tapejara you want to tame, then put those rare flowers on your action bar, jump on your flyer and once you fly close to tapejara eat one of them and start leading tapejara to a safe place to tame. Make sure to keep an eye on your status effects, so once your rare flower debuff runs out (it lasts 10 seconds) you can eat another one to make keep tapejara chasing you. Once you're at a safe place, land there and immobilize tapejara with a bola, then you can knock it out and tame it. If you don't have a flyer, craft a set of ghillie armor as that'll allow you to get closer to tapejara before it notices you, so you can quickly bola and tranq it. You need organic polymer to craft ghillie armor, but if you can't safely get to snow biome you can get organic polymer from hesperornis too. Technically, rare flower method also works with ground mounts, but since you'll aggro almost everything nearby it can be frustrating to get rid of other attacking creatures while trying to tame tapejara.

I only played right when it came out and it was so buggy and loud also there were no caves, how is the map now...?

@@oBuLLzEyEo1013 It's an amazing, beautiful map with caves that have mini bosses and feels like an exploration rpg it's a big change of pace for the game compared to other maps and just feels nice. plus desert drops exist if you don't wanna do ocean.

Rag is my favorite by far...only issue are the high lag areas where my system becomes a slideshow

imo aberration is the best map, although that's my view from about 3 i think years ago. the only map that doesn't allow for flyers, making pvp much more enjoyable :)

I play exclusively solo since I can't dedicate my life to the game. I'd say it's a toss up between Rag and Genesis for my favorite map. I haven't played since the new map was released so I'll have to give it a try.
