So with this post, there are additional questions that need to be answered. With snail games and wild cards contract what are the stipulations within the contract if snail games goes under? How much of wild card goes under with them based on their current contract? If snail games goes under, does this mean that wild card studios are free to find a new publisher with better terms? As the brand while snail games has ran it to the ground and managed it so poorly, somehow still manages to have a in Normas following. that’s just a sampling of some of the questions that immediately popped into my fron. We will most likely never see it as they are typically view as sensitive and controlled documents. As contracts of this nature typically have a lot a financial and other sensitive information in them.

When you clear out the chaff here is what the situation looks like to me, Snail Games made mistakes, and is expecting the Ark fanbase to bail them out with their Ark: Survival Ascended "remaster." But, here is the thing, while I enjoy Ark, and don't want to see it fail, Snail's financial situation isn't my fault, or problem. They can think again if they are going to see any more money from me after the stuff they've been pulling, especially for an early access title. I think all of us have been burned by enough EA titles(yeah its a double entendre) that we should all be cautious, doubly so with Snail's games. If they are willing to cheat on servers for a game they publish, do you think they respect their customers?

It's really sad that we're at a point where we have to be cautious about how a game dev/publisher does financially, because we (the gamers/customers) could get ripped off with false promises. The first time I've ever experienced this was way back in 2007 with "Hellgate: London" from "Flagship Studios" and shortly after in 2008 with "Age of Conan" from "Funcom". And the reason I still remember these, is because it was such a anomaly in the gaming scene. Sure, there where other games before that had to cut short in content or general development, but they never actively tried to hide it and/or made false promises. Nowadays it feels like every couple months there is another studio that tries to save their skins on the back of us gamers. Really, really sad.

Hellgate was destroyed by them wanting it released with massively overdone full language versions, think it was like 30 languages. AoC never went away, but yeah it sorta dropped fairly fast, played it from Launch until The Secret World in 2012, then went back for about 12 months in 2015, the server is pretty much dead now

ARk's future is looking extremely bleak now. Their latest decision to give Nitrado, a notoriously bad server hosting company, a monopoly on ARK servers is not a good one at all. No one is happy about this, this including the larger content creators like Syntac and NeddyTheNoodle who voiced their discontent and opposition to this decision. Syntac may have been even more aggitated since he's partnered with GPortal and now he can't really do that since they won't be allowed to run ARK servers anymore. This is clearly a huge and dangerous mistake by Snail Games, and definitely WildCard Studios since they refuse to do anything about it, not even blow the whistle on their nonsense. This mistake could actually spell a disaster for the ARK franchise and increases the likelihood that ARK: Survival Ascended utterly and humiliatingly fails. This is potentially the nail in the proverbial coffin.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. I think that nitrado/ marvis loaned the money for the exclusive server hosting deal. Then as added security and for the over due payment, if it should happen. They put a clause in place that they get 20% gross revenue. They are smart. And we have to remember this is business and no one forced Snail Games USA to sign or agree to such contract.

i have Nothing to say. good explanations, you are well informed, good hypothesis too. Oh! part of the ark community (me too) are doing a boycott of ascended to draw snail even further into dept and force them to sell either ark or wildcard all together. This is an attempt to save the devs and the game from their bad management. Wildcard devs can deliver good quality work if their working conditions are better (coffee breaks, no chrono when they need to pee, no pressure from chineses commercials... you know). we know for sure snail will try their best to keep them after the launch but what if enough players boycotte and continu to put bad reviews? That's what we are aiming for. As for others players, i know some of the communities i'm in (and servers managers too) are waiting at least 1month after release to see how it goes, their won't move their communities on ascended if it's unplayable or not better than current ark stability wise.

The loan probably has a specified timeframe dictating how long Nitrado has exclusive control over the servers, so even if (& that is a big IF) Snail pays off the loan GPortal & others will not be able to provide servers until the terms of the loan are fullfilled.

They should have focused on Ark 2, postponed its launch to correct their foolish idea of DarkSouls like game play and the community would have understood. Then announce ASA after ARK 2 was released, and don't anticipate shutting down servers until ARK 2 was in full swing and kept an overlap with ASE to ASA until ASA was fully released (all DLC content released). They could still have created additional content for ASE (new creature content or TLCs and community events, etc) to keep the community interest and excited. No drama with Snail, no server outbursts/banning. They would still have some financials coming in through servers and little to no bad PR and ARK 2 would have been a good sell...now I doubt too many will invest in ASA with this obvious "cash grab" and it will undoubtedly be released by October 31 to keep that loan secured, but a WIP, buggy and broken condition. Otherwise...say goodbye to ARK 2 (even though they seem to be under a different publisher) and any future ASA completion (new creature votes all for nothing!) and any further ARK content could be in jeopardy of release!

So, Snail has two options. 1- Bankruptcy. 2- Come to jesus. By "come to jesus", I mean they will have to do the right thing. Straighten up and run the company as a responsible publisher, and no longer treat their products like fruit to be squeezed for profit. Considering their record, one might be inclined to believe that snail will choose bankruptcy. Take their money and run. However, Business is one of the few places where greed is a virtue, and.... Snail is greedy. ARK is a goldmine, and Snail Games are dreaming of dollar signs. I would venture to guess, that this entire situation actually turns Snail Games towards the straight and narrow. There is far more money to be made going that direction.

I was wondering what rights we have to the entire game assets in order to run the holiday events. I know they removed them due to storage issues, mostly at the console level. But they should still be made available as a "complete game" that we have all purchased and should be able to use in a single player environment, or to use on self-hosted servers. The only event that is included right now is Winter Wonderland. Am I wrong in stating that we should get what we already paid for? Bloated or not, it should be made available when they move on to ASA.

"Interesting" is a great way to describe this entire debacle. The whole exclusive server host provider is a great financial decision on paper, but like you I don't like exclusivity deals. More importantly (for them), if things keep going this way, there won't be much money to make with server hosting if the game fails... Also like you, I don't want to see ARK 2 fail. However I do want to see SnailGame fail. In an ideal world, they'd sell ARK 2 to a better company.

I own, personally host on private machines, a 14 map (12 official and 2 mod maps) ASE cluster with mods for steam. Has been running for 3 years 2 months now. We had a discussion with our founding members and long-term players about whether or not to move to ASA when it came out, and we all determined that we would stay with ASE. This decision was based on changes of ARK II, separating from ASA, and then ASA not being a free upgrade, it totally raised red flags for me, and others, that something was wrong.

The instal number is a bit inflated and doesn't reflect sales. It sites instals as of June 2023... that was the same month the Fjordur map was released and Ark was given away FOR FREE on steam. Just the base game so customers would've had to buy the paid DLCs but again, there are plenty of free maps and mods available once players obtain the base game. I think it was free for a week, just enough to inflate their numbers.

Marbis will own this game. I can see why they “loaned” them more money. All you have to do it look at the list of unofficial servers. Thousands on PlayStation alone. And most of them aren’t populated. It’s all free money. I’d like to see what their monthly income is vs what they loaned Snail.

we the people that love and play this game dont want ark 2. it fundamentally abandons all the things that make ark fun and unique in order to create and unimaginative Frankenstein monster of popular games currently out in the market. i really hope ark 1.5 can remain its own thing and keep getting support for years to come with new content.

Wildcard are useless look how many bugs the game has or the amount of times they would break the game with updates and all the bugs they either wasn't smart enough to fix or just didn't care enough and left them in

@@jonnyjacobs6051 The current team is different than the original team that first made ASE. The first time coded the game with spaghetti code which is why it was sooo hard to fix bugs and such. Now with ASA they will recode everything which while I don’t doubt there will be bugs in the game, they will be much easier to fix as the code wouldn’t be as terrible.

I feel bad for them. They have made an excellent game. One which I have come back to time and again over the years. They have never tried to sell overpriced one off skins for ridiculous prices. Instead they made meaningful updates and dlcs well worth the money. No company is perfect and the game has its downfalls. But it’s sad to see that crappy pay to win mobile games can make billions but an incredible game with so much content and love is also struggling to pay for its own servers.

Nice sleuthing. I suspected ASA was pushed out to raise money for Ark 2. Ark 2 has always been billed as being built on the next Gen engine. I found it odd when they delayed ASA and said one of the reasons was learning the engine. If they've supposedly been building Ark 2 on said engine, why is it such a mystery for ASA? Because they haven't had the funds to actually start development. Ark 2 - 2028 y'all!

The way I understand it snail games owns ark outright I have no idea if wild card has any control at all. They are the development team and they maintain the game for snail games. At least this is my understanding not really sure how that works

Nitrado has always had terrible stability and latency with Ark. (Unless this was an Ark issue) but I knew from the moment they said early access, they will use it as a shield so they can eventually walk away from ASA when(if) Ark 2 launches.

Having never played Ark I was planning on trying ASA...until I learned about their deal with Marbis and the fact that choice on a server host was removed. I planned on hosting my own server with my host who I have a few other servers with. I do not like that choice being removed and considering the financial issues I have decided ASA will not be for me and I will not be getting it.

Not to be the debbie downer but when they announced major a list actors for their anime and voice actors for ark2 i think they bit off more than they can chew plus with asa and maintaining ase serveres. The ambitions were far to grande for their pockets

13:22 was EXACTLY what I thought when they announced the price tag, then they took away Ark 2 added some dlc maps and INCREASED the price, they thought they would confuse us and make a duplicitous underhand tactic to squeeze more money. You've not seen any Ark 2 stuff because they can't afford to make it. You only see pick what dinosaur for AsA because they again don't have the money to actually create stuff in unreal 5. This will be a straight port, if they can wrangle the cash to pay back everyone, if they can't they will fall (fingers crossed of the latter) To make an omlette you break eggs, in this case: people with passion for this game will be caught in the crossfire. Hopefully Snail goes under sells the IP and all that happens is the name on the doors change. The workers (Devs,maintenance, key staff who actually do things that help the creation and creativity of the game) keep their jobs. CEOs and pen pushers? Fire them.

Original ARK should go free to play. All other maps remain pay as normal. ARK Asended should be scrapped with all new assets moved to ARK 2. All devs should be put on ARK 2 remotely and immediately. Office should be closed or sold. Atlas, and other games should ALL be shut down, saving them server money and to hire more remote developers. The cartoon should be sold or scrapped to stop bleeding money. Company should go silent untill ARK 2 is ready. Team should focus only on PC release and port the game to other things later.

It's understandable to see why they got the loan and why they needed it. The costs of ark2 and ascended would be mind boggling 4mill to them is not a lot of money the partner to snail games doesn't care about the 1 mill dollars they will make 10 fold in ark ascendant and ark 2 4 mill is nothing to them. To them it would be like losing a 20 dollar note they already made there money from ark 1 this is there round 2 they won't throw that away for 4 mill

ARK SE has sold ~30M copies. Do you think it's far fetched for them to sell 1M copies of ASA? It isn't, and that's all they need to stay solvent and get back on track. You may not like it but bet on it, it's happening.

Problem is that people were a lot more optimistic and trusting of wildcard back then, you didn't see as many people angry about wildcards incompetance back then because we didn't know what they were like fully.
