SL1P, the reason you are having trouble killing animals on the Terror Bird is because it is not suited to that activity. They are mainly useful for raiding and chasing down players as they are fast and have the ability to glide. The glide is especially useful as it allows for easy dodging of rocket launchers and can (in special cases) be used to ambush players from ledges or the tops of buildings.

I found with the nerf that starting stats make a big difference in how powerful you can make an animal. I have a rex that was 120, but it is eclipsed by a lower lever one that started with 8000 HP. Animals that tame out with high melee damage are especially good.

If you want better weight on the terror bird and don't mind losing the riot gear (which can be outclassed depending on what kind of flak armor you've found) take off the riot. I don't use it because it weighs almost 50 pounds, while flak only has 0.5 weight per piece.
