Great review. I was so impressed with the EP5 after I got it, and with great reviews of others I put in an order for an EP8, which is their 1x8, to put on one of my AR’s. After sending in that order, they had given me enough of their bonus bucks, that I turned right around and ordered this SH4, for $197. That’s right, $197! It will be going on a Savage .22 that just happens to outshoot my CZ 457 that I installed their EP5 on. So I guess you can say I am impressed with the Arken products. I have lots of Leupolds, Vortex PST2, Vortex Razor, Zeiss spotting scope, Kowa spotter, and honestly, to my eye, these Arkens punch right up into what I have always thought to be , upper end glass. Time will tell as to durability. Thanks again for your informative reviews…

Surprised you haven't done a review of the very popular Arken EP5 and instead only have focused on the SH-4 (No pun intended). Would love to see you review the EP5, especially a comparison review vs either a Viper PST II or an Optika 6. For the record you can now get the EP5 for only $397 direct. Seems like the best bang for the buck out there right now.

A couple months ago I picked up this SH-4 plus the goodie pack for $400 even. At the same time I pre-ordered two of the new EP-5's with kits for $550, still waiting on those to arrive. I'm the guy that sent Zeos my Stax L700's for review, tell him I said hello :) The bastid kept them for about 6 months LOL.

Its always a fun experiense listening to NA reviews regarding illumination. Usually the biggest issue with illumination is that it doesnt go dimm enough in low light and will glare into the scope. Day light brightness is a nofactor.
@f64ecc
@f64ecc Жыл бұрын
I own one of the 4 to 16X scopes and I’ve found that the illuminated reticle is best used at about 4 power in low light situations where the Christmas tree, etc., is difficult to make out. In that situation the scope essentially becomes a finely configured red dot. Good hunting option in many cases.

How does the 6-24 compare while in its own 6-16 power range or even 6-18. Is the glass on the 4-16 more clear than the 6-24 or is it the same until the higher magnification comes into play and the 6-24 gets darker?

They are nice scopes at their current September 2022 lowered prices at $289 or $315 with combo pack 4-16x50 or $299 or $325 with combo pack for their 6-24x. Last month's August 2022 sale $424 for their 25% off EP5 5-25x was worth it too. Just keep the magnification 20x or under then they're fine. I think their 4-16x50 is their best scope in their entire lineup for $289 followed by their $424 EP5.

I have a Burris XTRII 3-15 and a Nikon FX1000 BLACK 4-16 on my 22-250s and am interested to compare the Arken to them. I paid $850. and $450., respectively for those and the Arken seems like an even better value! So, excited at the quality of some of the entry level/budget precision optics coming out these days!!! How does this compare to a DB Tactical 4-16 on the budget side? And then a PA GLx 4-16 or Viper 3-15x on the higher side? Arken looks very promising but being a relatively new company and hearing about the cult of KZbin it gives me apprehension.
@CDOES
@CDOES 3 жыл бұрын
Completely fair feeling. The DB tactical I can not vouge for. The GLx's I hear are good, but I'm just not a fan of how PA products feels. The PST ii 3-15 is great. And would make a easy transition into a razor hd if you ever wanted to. The PST is much smaller and lighter overall, and has very similar look to the glass. For a super low budget range gun I'd get the arken. For something I had to carry or rely on I'd go the PST out of those 2.

About torture texts...kind of silly? I bought a pair of Gucci Loafers for $890 and did a "torture test " on them. They didn't do so well in the mud, gravel, rock climbing, river rafting, walking in a stream, running them over with a Humvee and throwing them from a six-story high rise. Does that mean I shouldn't buy them? I think what is important is how you plan to use your rifle scope. Maybe if you are a military sniper your requirements are different than a weekend bench shooter? If you hunt and require a very rugged scope, do your homework. We don't throw our rifles around as a rule. We try to take care of our possessions as best we can. Running over a rifle scope with a Humvee makes no sense. If your life depends on your rifle scope, buy the best one you can afford. If you simply enjoy going to the range a few times a year, you probably don't need a $3000 scope.

I want to stretch it to 1000 but just to see if I can do it. But it’ll be my “DMR” With this scope. I’ve comfortably shot up to 600 comfortably. My max distance at my shooting spot. For my Bergara I was considering something higher quality but I may just get another arken with higher magnification in mrad.

It's a pretty large gap, but the strikeeagle 5-25 is a pretty solid scope. In fact they both are. Both would suit your needs well. But I would trust Vortex's warranty first. Plus it'll hold potentially more resale value over the arken. Unless your talking about thr ep5 series. Which should technically have better glass on paper. But I do not have any personal experience behind them to give you a truthful answer. I like locking turrets and a simple zero stop. The SE has both.

@@CDOES wow what a fast reply. Thank you for that. Ya the point to me of arken is cheap price so the jump to the ep5 I feel would be better to go strike Eagle even if the debate of glass clarity is debatable between the 2. I did have a Diamondback 6-24 on my CZ 457 and replaced it with one of these in MOA and I personally love it far more than the Vortex. The Vortex has 2 MOA subtensions where as this only has 1 MOA. The reticle is much finer than the Diamondback and also maybe a little clearer aswell. I put the Diamondback on it and it took a lot of fun out of shooting cause of how easy it was to see my holes at 100yds but this will give me a little more of the challenge I had with the Crossfire 2 3-9 that came on the gun. Overall, I love the scope and probably wont pick up another Vortex ever again under the $1000 price point, maybe even under $1500.
@CDOES
@CDOES 11 ай бұрын
These are definitely better then the DBT's. And if anything precision is in your line up then that helps. The reticle on the diamond back works well if your not in the most stable position. It seems to be a touch easier to pick up

@@CDOES I do tend to be pretty unstable shooting offhand or even standing and resting depending on rest height but I tend to shoot with a bipod, sitting and a stock bag so I can try to be as stable as I can be. The crosshair on the Diamondback wasnt horrible but is better suited for something like a 30 cal or larger cause of the thickness of the center crosshair where as the Arken with having the dot in the center and really fine subtensions around the center makes the Arken far more suitable for the rimfire guys like myself as you can see your hits a lot easier and actually aim directly on your hits easier aswell

I bought the EP5. Loved everything about it, glass quality, build quality. But I returned it. The turrets were tall and blocked my cantid red dot. And the weight felt like 2 rifles in one. Not great for my AR10 that I want to be semi mobile. For a long range sniper and weight is not a factor, this is probably the best for its price range. But I want mobility for my AR10. If I ever want to build a bolt action .308 or 6.5 creedmoor, Arken will be the first thing I will be buying.

Seems like the 4-16 is a better choice than 6-24 for a beginner PRS shooter on a budget. 4-16 seems cleaner than the 6-24. Thoughts?
@CDOES
@CDOES 3 жыл бұрын
The 4-16 is less stress on the glass. Not trying to magnify as much. Either will be fine as long as you don't make the fatal mistake of zooming to far into a target. When you zoom too far if your micro inputs show up easier. Then whether you realize it or not, you try to correct for that. And end up making things worse. For me, less zoom means I focus more on the fundamentals and remain more consistent throughout my shots.

I think the scope has very clear site for picture , but the in lines in cross hairs are really thin might be a little darker and easier to see just my opinion.

Unsure. The recoil forces of air rifles are known to destroy most optics. I cant vouch for their warranty.

Only of played around with s 5-25 pst a few times I can say that the PST is a more capable scope for glass. But far more expensive in retrospect.
