Arkham Horror 2nd Ed. Vs. Eldritch Horror: Board Game Comparison

Gosh I got eldritch horror back in October I think, and I just now found out about Arkham horror second edition. Seriously every mechanic they changed for eldritch horror, looks to be a worse mechanic than what it was in 2nd edition. I'm so happy Im picking up second edition soon.

Arkham Horror is my second favorite game (Too Many Bones is my first). It is incredible how well it tells a story. It is ok that it can be unfair at times. I enjoy it anyway. We usually play with two players, two characters each. In our imagination, we represent one of those two characters, the other one is a kind of sidekick.

I finally got a copy of AH 2nd edition a few months ago. If compared as base games EH loses as it really only feels complete with the first expansion. So AH wins on base game replayability. I can't comment on the expansions as AH expansions aren't easy to come by. Eldritch Horror wins on availability and how the expansions don't really bloat the game too much as much of the content is module based, only being used with certain old ones. I'm glad I own both but I'm perfectly happy with just the base game for AH and I'm glad I have most of the expansions for EH. The deciding difference for me is the kind of story I want told, Indiana Jones or Ash Williams

Hey Harry... AH 2nd ed still in print? I have some of the AHLCG and have been playing a bit lately. EH looks cool. Is it still in print? Hard to get some of the Fantasy Flight stuff anymore. I had to wait months to complete my Dunwich Legacy cycle!

Hey there, Eldritch Horror is still in print and as a matter of fact at a discount right now amzn.to/3E421SP. Arkham Horror you will have to find on the BGG Geek Market or Ebay used. Every once in a while a good deal pops up but even so we're talking about $80+ if you're lucky. Thanks for watching!

I really wish FFG can reprint AH 2nd (and its expansions of course) I started playing a few board game not long ago (2018 actually) and found AH2 is just perfect to my liking with its dark theme / monsters that can move / unforgiving difficulty etc. But even at that time, many of the expansion are scarce and ridiculously expensive. (even worse at today) Spent quite a lot of effort to collect 3 big and 3 small expansions. Still, Kingsport Horror has been in my wishlist for 3 years.
