My favorite thing about Cities in Ruin is something I didnt actually realize at first and happened after I flipped one of the nastier conditions: Disaster cards are ALWAYS on the table. Even when Shudde M'ell isnt the Ancient One, there are Mythos and condition cards that end with the game going "Hey, guess who's drawing a Disaster card"

Another nice thing about the Focus/Resource mechanic is that it adds new actions to the game that can be used in any space. Circumstances can arise where you only have one viable action and your second action is essentially wasted, especially if you are in the wilderness/sea. The gain a Focus/Resource actions fix that.

Thank you for the guide. I have the base game and played it with a group. While it is fun, I can't help but feel that the clue encounter keeps recurring. So I am happy to know that the Forsaken Lore improves on that aspect.

This great buyer guide overview 👍 Something im curious to experiment with is integrating Focus tokens and Personal Stories into the 'core'. I feel like the Focus mechanic is really necessary for this games level of pure randomness. Even if its just a minor level of control, it adds some more strategy to the game. Personal Stories seem like a great way of personalizing investigators to me. With a reward/weakness based on who i play, idk it makes investigators more unique and would make me curious to try others than who has best stats or ability. Consider too how this is integrated in LCG from the start, with signature card vs signature weakness per investigator... Also, i have no room on my table when i play EH (lol), but Dreamlands does seem to make the most sense as a sideboard. Considering its accessed from the map itself, rather than it just being a static zone at same location like with egypt and madness.

I love this game! I have 3 small (not carcosa) and mountain of madness. We had to increase the diffeculty because we won to many of our games, i actualy prefer to lose in this game, haha. The randomness and the narrative drive is the best part of this game

I currently own all of Arkham Horror the Card Game, all of Mansions of Madness, the base and one of the expansions for 3rd Edition and have been toying with the idea of adding this collection to my Arkham Collection. I've read several comments elsewhere that Eldritch Horror is the best of the Arkham Horror games. I would be curious what your take on that is. Than again. I am very much enjoying your take on all things Arkham Horror and just subscribed as I think you guys are the best Arkham Horror Channel.

@@LifezAGame I'm pretty biased towards dreamlands as I just think the theme is so cool! But if you are into Egypt, go for that, it's just a matter of preference in my opinion :P I just enjoy the variety, but haven't played for a while actually

@@TheRmm1976 You can easily get 2 of the sideboards by choosing an ancient one that requires a board as well as a prelude that requires one. There is no reason why you can't just play with 2 preludes.

12:20 Coming from the LCG and the LCG only, I'm rather surprised, there are at least 5 seekers (and an "almost" seeker) in one expansion. Only Sister Mary and possibly (?) Hank Samson fall out off this class. I guess, the characters are classified quite differently in this game? Also, there are more established investigators left for the Card Game, than I thought. That looks nice. I know, they keep designing new ones like Nacho and Stella as well, but this further backs the hope for many more campaigns to come. I would love to try out EH at some point, but I think going into it now would become more difficult and expensive, as they had discontinued the game. Hope rather to find some gaming friends, who already own it.

Yeah, characters are classified differently in Eldritch. Apart from combat/lore (fist/book *and book uses spells in Eldritch*) the characters can kind of make most things work to a passable level. The characters live more in their abilities in Eldritch. But yes! Lots of investigators to come and I hope that they keep making new ones too.

When Yog-Sothoth's Void Between World's Special Encounter and Final mystery (Key and Gate Special Encounter) come into play, do you still have to fight the monsters on spaces with gates to encounter said gates and cards? Two years since your last Eldritch game? Take a break from Arkham LCG for a flash back? The campaign was aggressively bad in the last expansion. Nyarlathotep and the personal stories was enough, I thought, but the campaign made me think the whole expansion was worse than it should have been.

Any boxes that has focus tokens will allow you to play with the focus mechanic. In addition, the focus mechanic is easily added to the game even without the tokens, because of how simple they are, mechanically and how few you need (2 per player).

I think Cities in Ruin is a little bit more of an enjoyable box than Carcosa, so that one!

The randomness doesn't bother me, because there is some control you can have in regards to ensuring you seek out tests that work for your investigator. The randomness is about on par for AH 3rd Edition, for reference.

Very good solo with 4 investigators and if you wonna big challenge use 3 of them. Game is more difficult with a odd number 📱 of investigator. If you play solo with 1 or 2 is, just not much things happen in the game. We use to play 2 people each 4 investigators, very cool 🏂 but long! Massive game one of the best game in a, market along with AH sec edition. Avoid third Editions of AH is just crap after EH. Is, only game I through to garbage can (really)

As Oleg mentions, the game is more difficult with odd numbers of players as the same amount of gates, monsters, clues spawn with 3 players as with 4 for example but you have one fewer investigator to deal with them. I myself regularly play with 2 or 3 players and we always use 2 investigators each. Of course it does lengthen the game but it allows for more synergies & variety.
