Lol, I am from Turkey and I was born and raised with Arko smell every morning without exception of my fathers shaving. Right now it's my main shaving soap. All Barber shops in Turkey smells like Arko soap too. The soap man picture is from 1950'ies, never changed. If you don't shave every day don't buy in bulk after open it, it loses its nostalgic scent in 2-3 months unless you cover it with stick container. If you have any questions, shoot.

@@leninmonk I pressed it into a bowl. I shave once in a week and it lasted over a year. (12-14 months i guess). If you don't unwrap the package it will not lose its scent. Don't be afraid of the scent though. It just smells like nice soap. And it is the best soap in my opinion because it has the best lather for the price. Under a dollar here in Turkey and it is a local product so it comes even cheaper. Give this soap a try if you haven't. You'll be surprised how good it is.

I find that scents in shave soaps and creams only last as long as the shave so its not worth the extra cost for normal daily shaves . I'd rather have high performance. Arko is cheap(13 bucks a case(12 sticks) and it performs as well or better than many of the expensive soaps. I also like the generic lemonish soapy scent of Arko but its high performance is why I use it. Some of you KZbin wet shavers should do some Minimalist Traditional Wet Shaving videos on how to pick or find a good cheap vintage or modern razor, high performing low cost soaps/creams, cheap high quality blades and using cheaper readily available products for pre-shave prep and post shave. Inform people of items that can be purchased cheaply in bulk. A big obstacle to getting more people informed about traditional wet shaving is the "Art of Shaving" image it has as being a more expensive option than the drug and grocery store products and cartridge systems. It costs me less than 5 bucks a month to shave using a Safety Razor and brush, buying soap and blades in bulk , using generic witch hazel and watching for sales,coupons and promotions on Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling Post Shave Balm.

Nick, enjoying your videos, I'm just a few months into DE shaving and I've benefited from your videos. I just tried Arko for the first time yesterday and I'm getting some good shaves. I think Arko smells like incense, not like Ivory soap. I had my wife smell it with eyes closed and having no idea what she was smelling. I said nothing about what I thought it smelled like. Her conclusion: Incense. I think ones enjoyment or dislike of Arko's smell depends on association. When I use it, I smell incense and love it.

I really like Arko. Performance is top notch, lathers easily and makes a very dense, very slick lather. To me the scent is a pretty generic lemony soapy kind of smell that isn't very heavy. It pairs really well with the lemon scented Pinaud after shave. I have lots of other premium soaps/creams that I also like but Arko will always be in the rotation. Don't let the price point fool you, this is a very high quality product. Just smash it into a mug or bowl, cover it with the hottest tap water you can, I like to fill the mug and put a boar bristle brush in to soak while I shower. After the shower pour off the water and squeeze out the brush, load up and make a face lather. Your mileage may vary but this is what works for me.

I just tried this. Not only do I hate the smell (it made me a bit nauseous), but I had the worst shave in months. I worked it into my face for several minutes and used additional water a few times. Thankfully Nivea post shave balm helped ease the irritation.

I like the scent. It's not great, but it's not super strong. Here's my setup. Got a proraso shaving mug... warm up the arko just a bit so you can squish it into the shaving mug. Once it's in the shaving mug, just lather up a bit and leave it overnight. The water will seep and basically adhere the soap to the mug. That's all standard stuff for putting shaving soap in a mug, but just for people who don't know... that's how you do it. So instead of a stick, you now have a mug preloaded with Arko soap. So when it's time for a shower/shave, I get my brush wet, wet the soap in the mug, and leave the brush floating in another mug that I keep my brush in. Then I take a shower, and when I come back, the soap and the brush are primed. Then, I either start the lather (if I don't care about the scent) or if I'm feeling like having a very enjoyable shave, I'll put a few drops of whatever essential oil I feel like in it and lather it around. I like pine. Wakes me up good. But I've tried lots. Lime works well. Menthol works well. Cherry blossom. Anyway, put a few drops into your mug and start lathering. The original smell won't go away, so you have to find something that accompanies the smell, but the original smell is quite minimalist, so that isn't as hard as it sounds. Then, you leave the shaving cream mug for next time. The scent will remain and dissipate over the next few shaves. Another option... if you don't want to have to mess with the scent every day. You just want a good scent in the whole bowl. Just take a butter knife... and cut your soap in half, or maybe quarters right there in the mug. put many drops into the cracks of the soap. Or if you REALLY wanna do it right, put your stick through a cheese grater into a big bowl, dump in a splash of the fragrant oil and knead all of the shredded soap and fragrant oil into a mass, and pack it into your shaving cup as hard as you can, lather a little top layer real quick and put a lid on your mug or put saran wrap on it or something overnight. A lot of times, if you want the best product, you start with the most basic product and make it your own.

Hey, so I did the same thing as you for my first try. I bought the dish took the puck out and squeezed it into the shaving bowl I have. The soap is great but 2/3rd gone. When I went to order more I noticed it was 90g from $6 or you buy 900g in sticks for $12! No brainer right! Just do as this guy is doing amd shove it into your bowl. Id also try the normal stick method of rubbing the stick on your face and building the lather off your face with the brush. Just try it and decide which you like better. Ill probably stick with the bowl but i dont know. I get the sticks friday and will try the stick method out. Dont waste money on the pucks.... Its stupid! The biggest reason to switch isnt a close shave (a brand new fusion pro glide works fine for 1-2 shaves) its just the money you save is extreme! You can buy a $100 razor, $60 brush $50 stand/bowl and then buy 2 years of blades for $10 and a year of soap for $12 and you spent less than a year of gillette blades and aveeno gel. Im going to try schick injector razor and blades for when im in a rush (supposed to be close to DE but quicker) and this stuff will be my go to soap for that too!

How long did you load the brush for? probao sam ga više puta i sad imam jedno pakovanje i sem toga što stvarno ni na šta nemiriše ovo je jedan od sapunakoje bih svima preporučio 1. Baš bogato pjeni 2. ostaje vlažan na licu 3. prirodni sastojci 4. jeftin e sad šta više da se traži možda još jedino proraso i LEA daju toliko za uložene pare

I can't find another soap that can lather and feel as slick as Arko. I still have not tried MWF. Arko smells like Ivory
@nickshaves11 жыл бұрын
It smells exactly like Ivory! Try out Synergy or Mike's - both are very easy to lather and are very slick

Why are you shave snobs so caught up on smell it's not like you can take it with you it's all about performance.
@jdcapps21 Жыл бұрын
As long as it doesn’t smell like you’re rubbing 💩on your face, who cares? If you want to smell nice, buy cologne.

arko can't be beat. U don't like the scent? it's only on your face a few minutes...wash off and hit your aftershave,cologne, balm,whatever!

I finally broke down and tried it, alas it was not meant to be. Easy to create tons of lather, but I found it drying, an immediate disqualification. The scent was intolerable, a janitor's closet in a Turkish prison came to mind. Life's too short to not use MdC or Mike's, IMO.

The reason the Arko doesn’t have a scent is because it’s a waste of money. We shave, put moisturizer and then wear cologne to smell nice the rest of the day. Why spend more money on something that you’re gonna rinse down the drain? The shave should be about the shave. Not the scent.

The ONLY thing I expect from a great shaving soap is a RICH, STABLE LATHER with HIGH LUBRICITY..and that ARKO DEFINITELY IS! And I don't really care if it smells like shit or not at all, because after shaving I wash my face thoroughly anyway and always apply my favorite Davidoff after shave. Of course, a lot of ARKO opponents have to somehow justify their purchase of overpriced soaps for 50 bucks😂

I love the smell of Arko. My wife doesn't like (or dislike) it. If you're not getting a think micro-foamy lather, you're using too much water.
