Arkwright Town - The Community they picked up and moved
Once upon a time, Arkwright Town bear Chesterfield in Derbyshire was a happy and close knit community. Boasting its own railway station, Colliery and 174 terraced houses, life was as happy as it could get.
Note: Incorrectly i state 52 properties in the video its 174
The Colliery closed in 1988, this then created a problem. Metheane believed to be from Arkwright Colliery was escaping to the surface. A few houses had to be evacuated, more testing was ongoing.
Eventually it was decided due to the methane risk and readings being so high, the town would have to be moved. A new community was built for the residents accross the road, and they all had to leave with Arkright Old Town being demolished shortly afterwards.
In this video i try to look for any remains of the town, railway station & colliery.
