Yeah, many of the AI ships have dozens of weapons so when they just sit there and quietly wait for their one torpedo to never find you it seems unrealistic. If I was the captain, and I learned of a sub launch torp, 6 missile dropped torps right on top of it without a second thought.

@@carrier-buff the problem with that is that you don't actually know where a submarine is just from a launch transient. Keep in mind how sonar works; distance is calculated by measuring the time it takes for sonar pulses to reflect back (in the case of active sonar) or calculating using several data points using passive sonar. The noise of a torpedo launch is, as the in-game term suggests, transient, i.e. it only lasts very briefly. That means you only really get an idea on the vague direction it was launched from, not the distance or depth. Add to this the fact that competent submarine captains will attack you from your baffles or using other techniques to make them harder to detect, and you'll realise that it's actually very difficult to respond like that irl. If ships could drop torpedoes on top of a submarine as soon as it launched, submarines would basically become entirely obsolete.

Because you dont know where the sub is, is the exact reaaon you launch a lot owlf weapons immediately. For example covering multiple range bands on a bearing, or saturating your own baffles with weapons.

I got myself the "Janes fleet command" installed very old game, and what an interesting thing I learned. The SM2 used here which I always expected to be just standard SAMs actually do have a "limited anti ship capability". Too bad that good old simulation doesnt simulate any asroc weapons

Do US Destroyers make anyone else feel all cozy and give you the tingly feeling inside? Arleigh Burke (especially the new Flight III), DDG(X), and the Constellation-class Frigates are such amazingly capable ships. The latest force structure 2045 plan has the USN at 96 large surface combatants (destroyers across three classes) and 56 small surface combatants (the frigates). 💙

i dont feel cozy with them around they seriously lack anti ship technology at best they carry 4 subsonic antiships missles from the 1970s i don't care how many defense missles and new radars it has it can't stop hypersonic missle the US navy keeps losing billions on blunders like zummwalt and LCS

@@milsimmaniac711 This isn't accurate. First, the SM series of missiles can target ships in addition to air-based targets such as incoming cruise missiles, drones, jets, and ballistic missiles. It will be a few more years, but the US will have several operational hypersonic missiles and other nations won't be able to defend against those reliably. While the US definitely doesn't have a proven defense against maneuverable hypersonic missiles, the SM is probably your best bet to have a chance at defending against them. Harpoons are being replaced by the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), which is still subsonic, but also stealthy. Also, Harpoons aren't merely "1970s" tech, as they have been improved multiple times via the introduction of newer variants. Given the sinking of the Moskva with subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles, I feel you're buying into the hypersonic hype a bit too much. Subsonic sea-skimming variants with stealth and electronic countermeasures can still get the job done. Finally, the Zumwalt and LCS are old news. The Constellation-class frigates and the future DDG(X) will be using proven designs and technology, rather than going for a revolutionary unproven design, such as the Zumwalt. Yes, they wasted funds, but it doesn't mean the USN won't get the ships it needs. I'm not sure what kind of point you're trying to make. There is no reason to believe the USN isn't the most powerful navy at present time or into the future.

@@jamison884 subsonic missles are obsolete simple as that no more use then bismark or victory. Moskva wasnt sunk by Ukraine. There's plenty of reason that the usn isn't the most powerful navy For instance zumwalt and lcs and keeping the same antiship missle for 50 years that was outclassed by soviet missles when it was built. Developing a hypersonic missle does not mean you have a hypersonic missle the usn is outdated and needs a serious overhaul if they want to keep up with China and russia

I used to be the sonar supervisor on one of those. I know it’s a nitpick but the American ensign should hang from the mast on a thing they called the pig staff and not the stern. They shift colors when the ship gets underway.

I wonder how the AI will use the type 055 DDG, which also has VLS and... stuff. I would expect the PLAN to still be a little clueless despite their fancy kit like we've seen in the 2000 dot mod campaigns, just from lack of experience. Imagine facing against those pesky maritime militia boats though. It's Q-ships all over again.

DDG-70, USS Hopper, named for Rear-Admiral Grace Hopper Per Wikipedia: Hopper is only the second US Navy warship to be named for a woman from the Navy's own ranks. This ship is the 20th destroyer of her class. Hopper was the 11th ship of this class to be built at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, and construction began on 23 February 1995. She was launched and christened on 6 January 1996. On 6 September 1997, she was commissioned in San Francisco.

Sorry...but I feel the need to mention that the starting engagement range is ridiculously short. I get it that the game may not be capable of doing OTH surface to surface actions, no matter how much you try to mod it, it is just a huge road block and damper on the capability of Cold Waters to be a surface combat simulator. ✌💯

One error is the US flag is being flown from the flagstaff on the stern. This is only done while in Port, not at sea. If the flag is flown while at sea it is from the main mast.

How do you add Harpoons to the Arleigh Burke? I tried adding the weapon usn_ugm84 to usn_99_ddg_arleigh_burke_flight_2a_pl.txt at "VLSTorpedoTypes=" plus a number at VLSTorpedoNumbers=12 but I get an error when a Campaign save is loaded. Then I found the correct line is AntiAirMissilesNumbers=8 but they don't fire - get a red line when targetting. Also, how to reload spent missiles in the UGM-84 panel?

Is there not a new anti ship version of the Tomahawk?? I thought I had read this. I see there was an anti ship version that was withdrawn from service in the 90s, the TASM. I thought I read the other day the Navy had introduced a new anti ship version.

The Alaskas aren’t simulated with dotmod in cold waters - unless you don’t mean the WW 2 Alaska class Battlecruisers/Large cruisers. They would loose a battle with Kirov tho (at least in cold waters) as they weren’t reactivated and upgraded (unlike the Iowas) and have no Defense against missiles.

@@billmuller6133 I love those ole WW2 battlecruisers. I know if not modernized to this era, they would be blown out of the water. All ships of this class were finally scrapped by 1959. They were lovely ships to look at. Strong,Sleek,Fast and well Armored for battle. Just a thought🤔 anyway.

Your towed array was damaged there at the end, probably due to 20kt speed, possibly by torpedo detonation.
