Arley Mendez Perez, 85kg lifter lifting for Chile (originally from Cuba), lifting while 2 days out from competition at the 2017 World Championships. Some notes:
-He did this workout, start to finish, in 75 minutes. As far as we know this was his first workout in the WWC training hall. We didn't see him in there prior to this but he could've snuck in when we weren't looking.
-He did a very light workout the following day. We asked him on his way in what he was doing and he just said the spanish equivalent of "warming up". We didn't watch his full warming up workout but it wasn't heavy at all.
-Sorry about the guy who asked me about slow motion cameras in the middle of the workout. My spanish is rudimentary and I have a bad American accent. But I was able to get him an answer to his questions so I guess it's good enough.
-He told me his best front squat is 270 and best back squat is 300.
-His C&J PR is 217kg: / bbdm422bts4
-His instagram is here: / arley_chileaful
-His results history when he lifted for Cuba is here: www.iwf.net/results/athletes/?...
-The intro and outro music is Johnny Rock "Back in Time" / johnny-rock-back-in-time

Question... I always assumed that the bar was 20 kg and the collars used in completion were each 2.5 kg. If that was the case, then Mendez snatched 165, not 170 (unless the collars he used were each 2.5 kg). Can someone help me here? Am I missing something?
@hookgrip
@hookgrip 3 жыл бұрын
20kg bar + 4 x 25kg reds + 2 x 20kg blues + 2 x 2.5kg small reds + 2 x 2.5kg collars = 170kg

@TehRealChruZ

K E around how heavy do you go then, 90%?
@prep0763
@prep0763 6 жыл бұрын
Chris Nijkamp usually up to what you plan to open with usually. Maybe a little heavier if your sharp. Some countries like Russia for example go the opposite direction about 10 days before completion they hit a heavy single in both lifts. But the week of the competition they don’t go above 80% to preserve the body.

yommomalama Hi, he switched to Chile because despite Chile it's a pretty shitty (ok, massive shit) in terms of helping their athletes, Chile brings far more support than Cuba ( it's very hard to succeed in sports if you are endorsed by Cuba) So he changed to Chile, because of the support Ps: sorry for my bad english, but im from chile and spanish is my main language

Juan Villalobos Oh no worries, your writing was completely readable. It's surprising that Cuba doesn't offer much support to weightlifters, considering it produced idalberto Aranda. Although, that was a long time ago of course
