Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier set the standard for respectfully honoring our military veterans of the past. Trae Zipperer founder of By Memorial Day compares the condition of veteran headstones in Arlington to those of veteran military heroes buried in their hometown cemeteries in any town USA. Veteran headstones marking the graves of veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery are meticulously maintained at the highest level of care while veteran headstones marking graves of veterans no less deserving but buried in their hometown cemetery are forgotten, neglected, and covered in biological filth.
Veterans Day 2021 November 11th marks the 100th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Trae Zipperer shares how the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier came to be following the end of World War I. With so many thousands of unknown unidentifiable soldiers buried on the battlefields of France, America chose to ceremoniously bring home one unknown soldier’s remains and leave the rest near where they fell. The tomb was to serve as a place where loved ones could visit in hopes that maybe, just maybe, their son, their husband, their grandson, their father, their brother, their uncle, their nephew, their cousin, their love, their student, their neighbor, their friend, was the one inside the tomb.
In this video Trae Zipperer provides painful contrasts between comparable sacrifices of fighting men from the Civil War, World War I, WWI, World War II, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He also shares footage of a Tomb Guard walking his post and changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
By Memorial Day a patriotic volunteer should take it upon themselves to visit ByMemorialDay.com to learn how to properly clean a veteran headstone so they can answer the call in their local community cemetery by cleaning one or more veteran grave markers by Memorial Day. Register as a Volunteer at VeteranGraves.com where you can add Cemeteries and add Graves to document the story of each veteran in fine military detail including before and after headstone cleaning photos.

I'm not sure why every person living in America doesn't feel the same way about the importance of honoring our veterans of the past. Those of us who still respect those who contributed to the freedoms we enjoy today will spread the word to as many as possible until we eventually assign a volunteer to each veteran grave.

Just came across your video. The changing of the guards remind me of my time in high school when I marched with my platoon NJROTC. Thank you and I intend to honor the memories if my dad and uncles service by cleaning some of our vets grave stones as well. Thanks for your informative videos.

Why the number 21? I also think of how genetic genealogy does wonders. I hate to see janes or johns doe's markers, especially if they fought in a war. I know this us not going to happen, but I am the weird one who wants these people out of these mausoleums and with a headstone with their name on it. I cannot stop imagining their fear and suffering dying, and those family members never hearing of them ever again.

There is a movement currently underway to identify the remains of America's unknown war dead. You might have seen stories in the news recently announcing the identification of an American airman exhumed somewhere in Europe or Marine somewhere in the Pacific. They have identified remains at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, but not the one who was interred originally following World War I. It was a way for loved ones to visit their young man who was killed in action but never brought home from overseas battlefields due to the inability to identify their remains in their condition. Keeping that one serviceman unknown made it possible for family members to feel as if it could be their boy in that tomb.

@@theyfaceeast I agree in having someone whom there has been impossible to identify in the mausoleum. Unfortunately, there still be people who, after the tests and genetic genealogical studies will remain unidentified. But I also think that people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for his country should at least be tested. Little by little, bc that's terrible expensive. And I think that all countries should follow suit, when they have the laws, the technology and the money to do so. Unfortunately, in Europeans countries that cannot be done yet, but as the saying goes, "the last one loses, is hope". Thank you for the link. And please, do not regard my comment as disrespect to the army or soldiers, much on the contrary, my heart goes to all soldiers and their families, who go to war to fulfill their duty to their country. Losers and winners alike.
