Question how do SDBs (vanilla) work? I know they can lock into laser or can be locked directly into vehicles. Are they all seek and destroy/ fire and forget?

Good question! They are neither "seek and destroy" or "fire and forget". Without laser guidance, they are essentially _dumbfire bombs,_ so you have to use your aim and know how to manually bomb. However the SDBs _can_ be guided with a laser; either your own or a friend's JTAC laser on the ground. I don't cover manual bombing in this video, but I do cover laser designation, both from the airplane pod, and from a JTAC on the ground.

@@kebman Ok so just looked into and tested it and thats not correct. Vanilla SDBs have 2 sensor types laser detctor and infared meaning you can lock directly onto an enemy vehicle and target it along with one other cool thing. SDB and GBUs both have lock after launch capability, basically once it is a cetain distance away from their planned bomb impact point they go active and will seek out what they can. GBUs only have lasers but SDBs actually have infared so they will detect and track any object giving off an infared signature within their arming zone (this zone is 500m around the impact point). Incase you want tot est this yourself you can look in the config folder or simply set a vehicle to move then drop a bomb around 500m away from it without locking the vehicle, the SDB will guide over to it without your input.

Depends if you really have a desire to learn to fly it like it's real. Given how detailed this sim is, one plane should give you more than enough contents, but it certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea. I might shell out for the A10 because of that juicy Air to Ground contents, if I get more time.

Almost all of my time in Arma has been spent as a pilot, I learnt how to bomb things badly after practising for ages. Now I find this video and there are actually tools to help you, instead of crudely having to navigate it and eyeball everything for hours until you have a decent idea of how to bomb things effectively even if not perfectly. There's locking on, and viewfinders? Pure rage. Good video though can confirm self-learning doesn't work.

Great tutorial, couple of questions tho: How do you get the plane to fly in such a stable fashion? I am always gaining or losing altitude or the speed is not consistent. Do you have like autopilot or something? Also when locking the lasers in view mode, how do you fire the bombs so they go towards the target you are locking on?

Horizon indicator, and very small and steady movement. As for letting the bombs go, just pickle the right weapon, and press the fire button when the reticule is over the target.

Oh one more thing. I fly mouse. With a stick you'll need to set trims. But sadly Arma 3 does not have a built-in trim, so if you've got mechanical trims on your stick, you'll gonna have to use those. There exists libs to script it in, but yeah, that's less than ideal.

I know how to bomb but I came here for watching this video and for a question which is not in this part. Question: does some unguided weapons like Gatling gun and rockets can make it accurate shot with laser targeting? Also the video is really great and help full. My bombing style is still little different. But this is the best way of bombing enemy from a great height.

Thank you, Sir! Having an enemy lased makes it a tad easier to keep track of him, no matter the weapon, because the laser will keep its lock. Otherwise, yes the way you bomb with, say, the Warthog is pretty different due to how it's designed to hug the landscape a lot more.

Hey man, need a tutorial on firing IIR guided AGM-65

There are already tutorials out for that one. The main difference from other weapons is that the AGM-65 Maverick requires a "hot" target. You can do that by dropping waypoints for the enemy vehicle, to make sure its engine is running. If it's "cold" you won't get a lock, even though you targeted the vehicle. I mainly made this video because laser guided bombing is such a huge area of the game, that's still poorly explained by Bohemia and also left out by most other KZbinrs.

In the graphic settings, you can increase visibility. Note that you need a somewhat good computer / good graphics card to be able to run this game on full settings.

Use plus and minus to zoom in and out. It should work on regular small keyboards too, but I use an extended one, where there's an extra set of plus and minus keys on the number pad. In any case you can re-bind the keys in the key config settings of Arma 3.

If you are just making a practice scenario in the Editor, the easiest is to just put Tempest or HEMTT Ammo/Repair/Fuel trucks on your home airfield and park your plane beside them.

@@bipbopking1101 Oh it's a bit wonky on my kayboard (I use the Norwegian keyb). It should be [ and ] by default, but I think I changed mine in the keyboard settings. Those key bindings will get up the mini cam (multi function camera), where you can see the onboard cam of _some_ air-to-ground ordnance, particularly the Macer and DAGR.

Waypoints work on AI controlled planes too. Just make sure it's got a pilot. It can be a little janky tho, and if you need a precise animation, you'll need to make use of plugins and mods.

I am so confused, as of now, I am using a laser designator on a tank and I have correctly selected it. However, whenever I fly near it or close to it where a laze would usually lock, nothing happens. I go to my viewfinder and there isnt any diamond or lock, same as the HUD. I am so confused, its a GBU 12 LOAL and I have lazed, approached at a high altitude and steady speed, please help? EDIT: I have noticed that when flying at higher altitudes or longer distances, as my bomb reticle gets closer to the target, it will kinda "snap" to it and remain slightly still, and when I left click it hits the target, but that isn't lazer lock.

Have you edited the JTAC object so it has *data link send* set to _true_ (i.e. so that the box next to it is ticked)? You'll also have to edit the jet object, but tick *data link receive* instead. The jet should then be able to receive information broadcasted from the JTAC's laser device. Other than that, I've heard that it's sometimes a little finnicky to get it to work, meaning that you have to approach the target from the same side as the JTAC is on (which is strange to me, since you really only need a clear direction of sight to the lasing device, since it communicates with the jet by radio IRL).

Hello, quick question regarding the targeting pod, is there a way to control the plane with the mouse while the targeting pod is locked on point - because using keys to aim the crosshair (impact point) is just not as smooth as using the mouse to correct the angles. AFAIK there is not, but there might be a way to change the default key bindings. The idea is that you'll go quickly into the targeting pod, pickle your target, set it, and then leave. Meanwhile you can still adjust the ailerons and rudder, but you lose control of elevators during the time you're in the "bomb sight" pod.

its a bit late, but i have a £25 Thrustmaster USB flight stick so i can still fly the plane while using the mouse to guide the targeting pod. Anyway, you shouldn't really be doing much flying while targeting, only really adjusting pitch if you're descending too much.

Not exactly sure what you're thinking about. Missiles are usually lock on, and then fire and forget. You use pretty much the same controls as for bombing except you don't have to worry about trajectory much at all, and you can also release it much further away.

You know... they messed up laser guided bombs... they should remove gbu12’s and add something like mk82 or something because these are dumb bombs. You can auto release but not CCRP like Jdams and GBU’s

JTAC? Not much. The difference is pretty much that you don't have to lase the target yourself, if you lock onto the signal of a JTAC. However it is sometimes adviced to fly over the JTAC and towards the target he's lasing. Not sure it's true, though, since the actual signal is transmitted over radio.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you. Bombing was very poorly covered by most other KZbinrs, so that's why I decided to do one after mastering it myself. Most other things that I'm interested in, such as light scripting, is already covered quite well. Add to this that I don't really play Arma as much anymore. I’m new to flying jets in arma and nothing I do seems to work, not even Macer missiles lock on to target, when I press R, a box appears then when I hit T it goes away.... am I doing something wrong?

Perhaps I was a little unclear in the video. When you're playing in-game, and you're flying, *R* is used to acquire the _Next Target (vehicle)._ Meanwhile *T* (at least in my keyboard setup) is configured to both _Lase Range, Lock Target_ and _Reveal Target._ Thus pressing *T* can also _deselect_ a target. Sorry for the confusion. To set up your own keyboard hotkeys, press _Escape_ while you're playing, and go into _Options > Controls._ Then find _Show: Weapons._ From there you can review and/or change your hotkeys as needed.

As far as I know they do have an alright model for the choppers. For the jets, the area they fly on is just too small, so I guess that's why they had to model it like that. You still have to cut corners when building an engine for everything between infantry to jets. ^^

You will only see the bomb reticule if you have bombs selected. You can select bomb-bay weapons by pressing *4* multiple times until you have bombs selected. If this isn't working, then hit _Escape_ and go into _Options > Controls,_ and review your hotkeys under _Show: Weapon._

HARM AG missile is an Anti-Radiation Missile meaning it uses the target's own Active Radar to guide itself on target. Since its a AG missile, the only targets that use Active Radar on the ground are AA platforms like the Tigris or Rhea. This missile does not give a radar warning to the target since it is using the target's own radar so the enemy must visually identify the incoming missile and manually disable their Active Radar to break the lock.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to help you here. I think you need to check with the Arma 3 forums, or submit a support ticket. AFAIK it is possible to delete also core maps in Arma 3, or "misplace" them. But normally the map will load first, and then you load the mission, and after that you start the actual mission on the map you've loaded. So if the map is really missing, you should see it first thing.

@@kebman Actually the extra gear is not too much. You just need joystick rudder pedals if you want and just TrackIR Which I made for 1$. Rudder pedals can be pricey but I have a T16000m joystick and it's not that expensive but it's definitely worth it. I think you should try it!

@@juju-sz5cp Sure, just select your target and turn on the laser. :) If you want to lock onto your target, click ctrl+t, or check your key bindings for what keys are used for the target lock. Then the laser will stay on target the whole time.

It was so much easier when the enemy unit/vehicle just pupped up on your screen and all you had to do was hit T and wait for the beeeeeb... Now its like its a whole simulation. That not what I want! I want easy idiot proof point of click!
