I am a retired Air Force aircraft mechanic. A friend of mine that worked on F-22's told me that one replaces an entire wing of F-15's. He said the only F-22 that had ever been shot down in and exercise was due to a previously shot down F-15 reengaging the F-22. The F-22's weapons system ignored the F-15 because it had already shot him down. The F-15 was supposed to return to base after being shot down. It was not considered an actual kill.

Co-ordinated targeting in large formations of aircraft (aggressors and defenders) is extremely difficult in such fast moving scenarios as can be seen from the Tac-view. Quite a few missiles flew through the MiG-9 formation and 1 MiG became a missile magnet. This might become critical if larger formations are encountered and they employ more thoughtful tactics, ie, multi-heights, multi-directions and staggered waves aswel as jamming and walls of chaff.
@Asghaad Жыл бұрын
which is exactly why networked computing and radar integration is such a big deal on F-35, those thing would all link together and dedicate one weapon to each target in the innitial volley

How about F-22 against that same North Korean Air force? I need to see how you hold up against impossible odds. Using missles, guns, middle fingers, etc I so love the Raptor. Unbelievable that they want to phase these out of commission. Thanks for the videos.
@gamlaman Жыл бұрын
If the F-22 has enough time, an airbase to refuel and reload missiles, and enough Patriot sites and other air defenses to defend that base so it can't be taken out on the ground, then it's not impossible odds. In fact I'd say it would be quite easy. Just take off, climb to 60.000 ft, fly towards North Korean planes, launch 6 AMRAAMs at 15 miles where your AMRAAM can't miss them but also they can't lock you yet, turn around, speed away back to base at 60.000 ft, land, refuel and reload, repeat. Nothing they can put into the air should be able to do anything about it. If they choose to remain on the ground, well, the F-22 can carry precision guided bombs too.

The only reason they'd think about getting rid of the F-22 is that there is a cheaper, better alternative. Just wait until the Defense Department decides we need a 6th or 7th gen air to air missile to match the NGAD's level of scary.
@tetraxis3011 Жыл бұрын
That gen is still super far away. The AIM260 isnt even finished yet.@@lexwaldez
@ahumblegamer4644 Жыл бұрын
@tetraxis3011 I wouldn't say "super far away." The b21 is a 6th gen, and it's been hinted by skunkworks/lockheed that a 6th gen fighter is already being designed. With the way they are using digital testing and design processes, we could see a test flight of a new 6th gen fighter in the next couple years.

One scary thing is, this wouldn't be the HALF of it. We'd have F-35s already in their airspace, designating targets for not only the Raptors, but for our "missile boats," F-15s and even B-52s, who would be hitting from over 100 miles away with MASSIVE loadouts of long range death. The Raptors wouldn't have much left to do, other than pick the bones. Meanwhile, the NKs wouldn't know it was coming until they all suddenly started falling out of the sky. Current air combat doctrine is some scary sh*t...for our enemies.
