This may be random, but I just wanted to say thank you for all of you hard work in creating this series. Many years ago when I started flying in ARMA, I was a hopeless 3rd person flying, auto hover using pilot, who couldn't land on a open runway to save his life. I always wanted to fly but could never work it out. That's when I stumbled into this series and your channel. Now after years of watching your videos and your styles, after countless practice sessions and thousands of crashed helicopters, the only restriction to a LZ now is "does it fit a helicopter" and even then that's optional. Now being the pilot for a fairly large ARMA group (by Aussie standards), you know you've done well when everyone you transport has full confidence in your abilities and judgement. Art of Flight taught me my flying styles, influenced my purchase of things like a track ir and taught me that when flying, its all about practice, practice and more practice. So on behalf of all of the people you have helped with your videos, I think I can say: Thank you for all your hard work! It is greatly appreciated!

You'd be astonished how much of whats just been described is drummed into blokes flying for real in the military. We often set up "contracts" between the Pilot and Co-Pilot for "What ifs". It means that between my pilot and I, we both know what the other is going to do in certain types of taskings, events, emergency or situations. It all ties in to CRM - Crew Resource Management - and being able to prioritize and select/distribute tasks between the two of you, depending who is in the "capacity seat". If the pilot is maxed out, there isn't any reason you can't help simply by giving him that warm and fuzzy feeling of "I've got the comms, airspace is good, no other traffic around here, fuel is good, systems look fine". Thats then a massive weight off his shoulders, giving him a moment of pause to go "Okay, sweet, the aircraft is fine, I can really focus on this task, I know my Co-pilot is keeping an eye on other things". Likewise, don't be afraid to call even a very experienced pilot on something you're not happy with or sure of. I know of a couple of colleagues who have told me it was the most junior bloke on the aircraft that called something and saved them from a significant incident. The basic principles also apply to emergencies - Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Aviate - get the aircraft in as safe a configuration as possible. Whilst the Pilot is doing that, I'm giving him a steer to deconflict airspace and/or RTB - Navigate - if the emergency is serious enough. I'm also getting on the radio/other comms to other players (be it ATC, supported units, other airborne assets) to let them know "Hey, we've got a problem, we're not able to do our tasked mission because we're working an emergency". Then come back together, talk through the problem, and make sure you've both covered everything off. Great video Dslyecxi.

I've been a pilot now for 650+ hours, and I can say one thing: copilots are like the eyes of the pilot. They spot what's on the ground, and take control if you get shot out. Whenever you feel bad about not being the pilot, but the copilot, understand your job is just as important.
@Heccct8 жыл бұрын
+Cody Dale Well, not really. I can safely say that I've never needed a copilot. The thing I find most important are commanders in a tank because they can provide you with bearings.. :P They are like the eyes of the.. well, gunner or driver. It depends.

As always, amazing video! It's too bad no Arma unit offers a flight program, where they train you and then you're free to go or stay. Where they have the intention of taking in student pilots, and sending them back to their units as a full fledged pilot. Same goes for JTAC's/TACP's; have them be trained by the same group, so as to keep the language and such an understood, and constant standard. Always have to rely on one person who's a good pilot, but can't necessarily have them properly train up more pilots, and crews, and supporting assets.

Would you ever consider recording another part to these or maybe even a spin off series where you and another pilot/co-pilot show what you cover in these videos to show people what you mean? Such as for this one doing a live scenario of a co-pilot and pilot working together? As much as it does seem like a simple concept to myself and some others I know some people who would benefit if shown a real scenario.

+Cai247 I doubt he will. If you yourself are interest in such vids, there are several on his channel. +Lymark Wong From my understanding it was the right seat in Vietnam and today still. So idk what is up with the MELB mod, might be missing something.
@lindseythepilot73588 жыл бұрын
+Lymark Wong Yes, typically, although it depends on the specific aircraft and also it's mission. For example, in the commercial helicopter world, doing ops such as sling loads or heli-logging, the pilot may opt to sit on the left side, so if he has to lean out to look at the load, he isn't leaning away from the collective (which would thus limit his ability to raise and lower it). There are other considerations as well.

What mod is it for those different Little bird models?
I have been wondering about this for a while and figure that Dslyecxi might be able to set this straight for me with both extensive experience with arma flight and have actually flown a real helicopter, my question is, how realistic is the arma 3 flight simulation? is it possible to fly a real heli like you do in arma? and just to beat some funny person to it "you cant fly a helicopter with a keyboard herp derp"
@lindseythepilot73588 жыл бұрын
+SicariiD Yes and no. Arma is really the most realistic simulation I've seen of actual flying, but it lacks a lot of the real-world limitations helicopters have. For example, the weight of the helicopter is going to change how it flies; i.e. is it more sluggish. One of his videos, he picks up a sling load and flies off no problem. There are limitations of the aircraft such as torque, bank angle, power, etc that are sensitive to weight, altitude, airspeed, and temperature. If you request more power than the aircraft can provide, you will stall the rotor system and have a real bad day at the office. That said, I am very impressed with what ArmA has done with the helicopter side of things, and after my IRL job flying helicopters, funny enough, I do go on ArmA to fly them some more.
