I have read somewhere that the AA mounts close to the back turret on Yamato couldn't be manned while the 18 inch guns were firing to the front cause the shock would have killed the soldiers

My father served in the navy in ww2. Nobody was allowed on deck iff the big guns were firing. The concussion would kill them instantly. Aa guns were used only with the smaller defensive guns going watch footage from the Pacific war you will clearly see this

A fortuitous bit of mischance in the Pacific Theater of WWII was that there was never the situation of a battleship needing to fire the main batteries while under air attack. What often happened was the opposite problem of fire support missions being interrupted, by the DP guns being needed for air defense. In fact, other than some surprises in darkness, there were very few gunfire exchanges between ships of the IJN and USN. The inability to fire open mounts on deck while the big guns were firing was a much larger problem (potentially, if not in fact), because they were needed to chase of torpedo boats, which could be expected during surface actions. Having to silence the main batteries as the anti-torpedo boat gunners manned their guns was all the worse, as nothing required the enemy to stop shelling a ship under threat of a torpedo attack.

That is why they started placing them in protected shielding while in dock though only a handful got that upgrade. Almost all battleships in WW2 suffered a lot of damage by the blast of their own guns.

Add the Australian Aircraft Carrier HMAS Sydney was a Majestic-class light aircraft carrier operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). She was built for the Royal Navy and launched as HMS Terrible (93) in 1944, but was not completed before the end of World War II. The carrier was sold to Australia in 1947, completed, and commissioned into the RAN as Sydney in 1948. Sydney was the first of three conventional aircraft carriers[a] to serve in the RAN, and operated as the navy's flagship during the early part of her career. In 1958, there were plans to convert Alaska into a guided missile cruiser. The first plan was to replace all three turrets with missiles, and the second was to replace only the aft turret with missiles, but both were rejected in sequence for being too expensive ($160 million and $82 million, respectively) and both Alaska and Guam were scrapped. But think how utterly badass that would have been.

Nope Hood & Renowns are still battlecruisers, same goes to Kongo. Main distinction is the gun calibre. Having smaller calibre meant faster reload, more cruiser like, thus the term Super Cruiser. It's supposed to be a rank below battlecruisers but armor is not taken into account (so if a super cruiser has more armor than battlecruiser it doesn't matter) or something like that.

The idea to build an "battlecruiser", "large cruiser" or "großer Kreuzer/Schlachtkreuzer" was born in 1905 in GB. The 1st Sea Lord John Fisher let the battlecruisers build parallel to the dreadnought. 1908 the first battlecruiser class (Invincible - class) with 3 vessel was completed. In the 1920's the construction and development was stopped, because powerful and lighter machines were developed and the armor protection increased.

This might be a stupid idea but what if there was a mode in the game where you could custom build a ship and use it on a specific server for just the custom ships. Like you would still have each type of ship (destroyer, light/ heavy cruiser, battleship and aircraft carrier) but you could customize what size both the main battery and secondary battery guns you have as well as AA defense. Again it’s just a thought and I do play the game on PC but I’ve always wondered what the players of the game would do. It would also be quite interesting (I think) because then you can see other players creativity.

There is a big difference between a battle cruiser and a heavy cruiser! Battle Cruisers were heavier than heavy cruisers. Compare for example the HMS Hood (british battle cruiser) with Admiral Hipper-Class(Germany), Portland-Class (USA) or York-Class(GB) (all heavy cruisers). And "Schlachtkreutzer" is only the german word for battle cruiser.

Over the past few weeks or so, I’ve been spending a lot of time grinding up a few cruiser lines (right now mostly Balti and Cleveland), and just using the ESCL and Papa Papa flags with one of the +100% XP camos (since my main focus is getting regular xp to upgrade a ship with) even on a decent but not great battle I can bring in 1-1.5k free xp on a win and around 700-800 on a loss with similar results. No premium time or kitting out my ships with every free xp buff I can get. I’d have preferred WG to keep the price tag where it was for the other free xp premiums (aka the average cost to go from t1 to the upgraded T9 in any line) since there was a reason for that, and the only reasons people have so much free xp now is because WG artificially tweaked the economy to make it accumulate faster and players are saving it instead of spending to upgrade ships because WG kept teasing free xp as the currency for all high tier non-reward premiums and then creating an artificial rarity to them so people wouldn’t want to spend free xp on one ship in case they didn’t have enough to get the next one they really wanted.
